NEW AMERICAN BIBLELXX
After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed his day.1 μετα τουτο ηνοιξεν ιωβ το στομα αυτου
Job spoke out and said:2 και κατηρασατο την ημεραν αυτου λεγων
Perish the day on which I was born, the night when they said, "The child is a boy!"3 απολοιτο η ημερα εν η εγεννηθην και η νυξ εν η ειπαν ιδου αρσεν
May that day be darkness: let not God above call for it, nor light shine upon it!4 η ημερα εκεινη ειη σκοτος και μη αναζητησαι αυτην ο κυριος ανωθεν μηδε ελθοι εις αυτην φεγγος
May darkness and gloom claim it, clouds settle upon it, the blackness of night affright it!5 εκλαβοι δε αυτην σκοτος και σκια θανατου επελθοι επ' αυτην γνοφος
May obscurity seize that day; let it not occur among the days of the year, nor enter into the count of the months!6 καταραθειη η ημερα και η νυξ εκεινη απενεγκαιτο αυτην σκοτος μη ειη εις ημερας ενιαυτου μηδε αριθμηθειη εις ημερας μηνων
May that night be barren; let no joyful outcry greet it!7 αλλα η νυξ εκεινη ειη οδυνη και μη ελθοι επ' αυτην ευφροσυνη μηδε χαρμονη
Let them curse it who curse the sea, the appointed disturbers of Leviathan!8 αλλα καταρασαιτο αυτην ο καταρωμενος την ημεραν εκεινην ο μελλων το μεγα κητος χειρωσασθαι
May the stars of its twilight be darkened; may it look for daylight, but have none, nor gaze on the eyes of the dawn,9 σκοτωθειη τα αστρα της νυκτος εκεινης υπομειναι και εις φωτισμον μη ελθοι και μη ιδοι εωσφορον ανατελλοντα
Because it kept not shut the doors of the womb to shield my eyes from trouble!10 οτι ου συνεκλεισεν πυλας γαστρος μητρος μου απηλλαξεν γαρ αν πονον απο οφθαλμων μου
Why did I not perish at birth, come forth from the womb and expire?11 δια τι γαρ εν κοιλια ουκ ετελευτησα εκ γαστρος δε εξηλθον και ουκ ευθυς απωλομην
Wherefore did the knees receive me? or why did I suck at the breasts?12 ινα τι δε συνηντησαν μοι γονατα ινα τι δε μαστους εθηλασα
For then I should have lain down and been tranquil; had I slept, I should then have been at rest13 νυν αν κοιμηθεις ησυχασα υπνωσας δε ανεπαυσαμην
With kings and counselors of the earth who built where now there are ruins14 μετα βασιλεων βουλευτων γης οι ηγαυριωντο επι ξιφεσιν
Or with princes who had gold and filled their houses with silver.15 η μετα αρχοντων ων πολυς ο χρυσος οι επλησαν τους οικους αυτων αργυριου
Or why was I not buried away like an untimely birth, like babes that have never seen the light?16 η ωσπερ εκτρωμα εκπορευομενον εκ μητρας μητρος η ωσπερ νηπιοι οι ουκ ειδον φως
There the wicked cease from troubling, there the weary are at rest.17 εκει ασεβεις εξεκαυσαν θυμον οργης εκει ανεπαυσαντο κατακοποι τω σωματι
There the captives are at ease together, and hear not the voice of the slave driver.18 ομοθυμαδον δε οι αιωνιοι ουκ ηκουσαν φωνην φορολογου
Small and great are there the same, and the servant is free from his master.19 μικρος και μεγας εκει εστιν και θεραπων ου δεδοικως τον κυριον αυτου
Why is light given to the toilers, and life to the bitter in spirit?20 ινα τι γαρ δεδοται τοις εν πικρια φως ζωη δε ταις εν οδυναις ψυχαις
They wait for death and it comes not; they search for it rather than for hidden treasures,21 οι ομειρονται του θανατου και ου τυγχανουσιν ανορυσσοντες ωσπερ θησαυρους
Rejoice in it exultingly, and are glad when they reach the grave:22 περιχαρεις δε εγενοντο εαν κατατυχωσιν
Men whose path is hidden from them, and whom God has hemmed in!23 θανατος ανδρι αναπαυμα συνεκλεισεν γαρ ο θεος κατ' αυτου
For sighing comes more readily to me than food, and my groans well forth like water.24 προ γαρ των σιτων μου στεναγμος μοι ηκει δακρυω δε εγω συνεχομενος φοβω
For what I fear overtakes me, and what I shrink from comes upon me.25 φοβος γαρ ον εφροντισα ηλθεν μοι και ον εδεδοικειν συνηντησεν μοι
I have no peace nor ease; I have no rest, for trouble comes!26 ουτε ειρηνευσα ουτε ησυχασα ουτε ανεπαυσαμην ηλθεν δε μοι οργη
