Then the LORD said to Moses,1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
"On the first day of the first month you shall erect the Dwelling of the meeting tent.2 “In the first month, on the first day of the month, you shall raise the tabernacle of the testimony,
Put the ark of the commandments in it, and screen off the ark with the veil.3 and you shall place the ark in it, and you shall release the veil before it.
Bring in the table and set it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up the lamps on it.4 And having brought in the table, you shall place the things which were solemnly commanded upon it. The lampstand shall stand with its lamps,
Put the golden altar of incense in front of the ark of the commandments, and hang the curtain at the entrance of the Dwelling.5 and the altar of gold, in which the incense is burned, shall stand before the ark of the testimony. You shall place the tent at the entrance of the tabernacle,
Put the altar of holocausts in front of the entrance of the Dwelling of the meeting tent.6 and before it, the altar of holocaust.
Place the laver between the meeting tent and the altar, and put water in it.7 The washtub shall stand between the altar and the tabernacle, and you shall fill it with water.
Set up the court round about, and put the curtain at the entrance of the court.8 And you shall encompass the atrium and its entrance with hangings.
"Take the anointing oil and anoint the Dwelling and everything in it, consecrating it and all its furnishings, so that it will be sacred.9 And, having taken up the oil of unction, you shall anoint the tabernacle along with its articles, so that they may be sanctified.
Anoint the altar of holocausts and all its appurtenances, consecrating it, so that it will be most sacred.10 The altar of holocaust and all its vessels,
Likewise, anoint the laver with its base, and thus consecrate it.11 the washtub with its base, and all things, you shall consecrate with the oil of unction, so that they may be the Holy of holies.
"Then bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the meeting tent, and there wash them with water.12 And you shall bring forward Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tabernacle of the testimony, and, having washed them with water,
Clothe Aaron with the sacred vestments and anoint him, thus consecrating him as my priest.13 you shall clothe them in the holy vestments, so that they may minister to me, and so that their unction may accomplish an everlasting priesthood.”
Bring forward his sons also, and clothe them with the tunics.14 And Moses did all that the Lord had instructed.
As you have anointed their father, anoint them also as my priests. Thus, by being anointed, shall they receive a perpetual priesthood throughout all future generations."15 Therefore, in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was put in place.
Moses did exactly as the LORD had commanded him.16 And Moses raised it up, and he positioned the panels as well as the bases and the bars, and he set up the columns,
On the first day of the first month of the second year the Dwelling was erected.17 and he stretched out the roof over the tabernacle, imposing a cover above it, just as the Lord had decreed.
It was Moses who erected the Dwelling. He placed its pedestals, set up its boards, put in its bars, and set up its columns.18 And he placed the testimony in the ark, applying the bars beneath, and the oracle above.
He spread the tent over the Dwelling and put the covering on top of the tent, as the LORD had commanded him.19 And when he had brought the ark into the tabernacle, he drew the veil before it, in order to fulfill the commandment of the Lord.
He took the commandments and put them in the ark; he placed poles alongside the ark and set the propitiatory upon it.20 And he placed the table in the tabernacle of the testimony, at the north side, beyond the veil,
He brought the ark into the Dwelling and hung the curtain veil, thus screening off the ark of the commandments, as the LORD had commanded him.21 arranging before it the bread of the presence, just as the Lord had instructed Moses.
He put the table in the meeting tent, on the north side of the Dwelling, outside the veil,22 And he placed the lampstand in the tabernacle of the testimony, away from the table, on the south side,
and arranged the bread on it before the LORD, as the LORD had commanded him.23 setting the lamps in order, according to the precept of the Lord.
He placed the lampstand in the meeting tent, opposite the table, on the south side of the Dwelling,24 He also positioned the altar of gold under the roof of the testimony, opposite the veil,
and he set up the lamps before the LORD, as the LORD had commanded him.25 and he heaped upon it the incense of aromatics, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.
He placed the golden altar in the meeting tent, in front of the veil,26 And he positioned the tent at the entrance of the tabernacle of the testimony,
and on it he burned fragrant incense, as the LORD had commanded him.27 and the altar of holocaust in the vestibule of the testimony, offering the holocaust and the sacrifices upon it, just as the Lord had decreed.
He hung the curtain at the entrance of the Dwelling.28 Likewise, he stationed the washtub between the tabernacle of the testimony and the altar, filling it with water.
He put the altar of holocausts in front of the entrance of the Dwelling of the meeting tent, and offered holocausts and cereal offerings on it, as the LORD had commanded him.29 And Moses and Aaron, along with his sons, washed their hands and feet,
He placed the laver between the meeting tent and the altar, and put water in it for washing.30 whenever they would enter the covering of the covenant, and when they approached to the altar, just as the Lord had instructed Moses.
Moses and Aaron and his sons used to wash their hands and feet there,31 And he raised up the atrium around the tabernacle and the altar, drawing the hanging at its entrance. After all these things were perfected,
for they washed themselves whenever they went into the meeting tent or approached the altar, as the LORD had commanded Moses.32 the cloud covered the tabernacle of the testimony, and the glory of the Lord filled it.
Finally, he set up the court around the Dwelling and the altar and hung the curtain at the entrance of the court. Thus Moses finished all the work.33 Neither could Moses enter the covering of the covenant: the cloud was covering all things, and the majesty of the Lord was flashing. For the cloud had covered everything.
Then the cloud covered the meeting tent, and the glory of the LORD filled the Dwelling.34 Whenever the cloud departed from the tabernacle, the sons of Israel set out by their companies.
Moses could not enter the meeting tent, because the cloud settled down upon it and the glory of the LORD filled the Dwelling.35 But if it remained hanging over it, they remained in the same place.
Whenever the cloud rose from the Dwelling, the Israelites would set out on their journey.36 Certainly, the cloud of the Lord lay over the tabernacle by day, and the fire by night, being seen by all the people of Israel throughout all their resting places.
But if the cloud did not lift, they would not go forward; only when it lifted did they go forward.
In the daytime the cloud of the LORD was seen over the Dwelling; whereas at night, fire was seen in the cloud by the whole house of Israel in all the stages of their journey.
