1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.	1 - Giacomo, servo di Dio e del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo, alle dodici tribù che sono nella dispersione, salute!
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;	2 Voi, fratelli miei, dovete stimare vero gaudio le diverse prove alle quali vi troverete esposti,
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.	3 sapendo che la vostra fede sperimentata produce la pazienza.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.	4 La pazienza poi rende l'opera perfetta, onde siate perfetti, completi, senza che nulla vi manchi.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.	5 Se poi tra voi vi è qualcuno che ha bisogno di sapienza, la chieda a Dio, che dà a tutti abbondantemente e non rimprovera; e gli sarà data.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.	6 Chieda però con fede, senza per nulla esitare, perchè chi esita è simile all'onda del mare, mossa e agitata dal vento.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.	7 Un tal uomo adunque non si pensi di ottenere cosa alcuna dal Signore.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.	8 L'uomo d'animo doppio è incostante in tutte le sue vie.
9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:	9 Ma il fratello umile si glorii della sua esaltazione;
10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.	10 e il ricco [si glorii] della sua umiliazione, perchè egli passerà come fior d'erba.
11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.	11 Infatti si levò il sole cocente e fece seccare l'erba; il suo fiore cadde e la sua appariscente bellezza svanì; così anche il ricco appassirà nelle sue imprese.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.	12 Beato l'uomo che sopporta la prova, perchè quando sarà stato provato, riceverà la corona della vita, promessa da Dio a coloro che lo amano.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:	13 Nessuno, quando è sottoposto alla prova, dica che è tentato da Dio; perchè Dio non è tentatore di male, e non tenta nessuno.
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.	14 Ma ciascun di noi è tentato dalla propria concupiscenza, che lo attrae e lo alletta.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.	15 Indi la concupiscenza, quando ha concepito, dà alla luce il peccato; il peccato poi, commesso che sia, produce la morte.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.	16 Non vogliate adunque errare, fratelli miei dilettissimi.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.	17 Ogni ottima cosa data e ogni dono perfetto vien dal cielo e scende dal Padre de' lumi, nel quale non vi è mutamento nè ombra di variazione.
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.	18 Egli infatti di sua volontà ci ha generati mediante la parola di verità, affinchè noi siamo, in certo qual modo, le primizie delle sue creature.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:	19 Voi lo sapete, fratelli miei dilettissimi. Ognuno sia pronto ad ascoltare, lento a parlare e lento all'ira,
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.	20 perchè l'ira dell'uomo non opera ciò che è giusto dinanzi a Dio.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.	21 Rigettando perciò ogni immondezza e la malizia ridondante, accogliete con docilità la parola [in voi] seminata, la quale può salvare le anime nostre.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.	22 State quindi operatori della parola e non semplici uditori, ingannando voi stessi.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:	23 Perchè se uno ascolta la parola e non la mette in pratica, egli sarà simile a un uomo, che mira in uno specchio il nativo suo volto,
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.	24 e, dopo essersi mirato, se ne va e dimentica subito quale egli fosse.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.	25 Invece chi si specchierà nella legge perfetta della libertà, e in essa persevererà, non come uditore smemorato, ma come operatore di fatti, questi sarà beato nel suo operare.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.	26 Se uno poi crede di essere religioso, e non tiene a freno la lingua, e anzi seduce il suo cuore, la sua religione è vana.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.	27 La religione pura e immacolata, agli occhi di Dio e del Padre, è questa: Visitare gli orfani e le vedove nelle loro tribolazioni e conservarsi puro da questo mondo.
