1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.	1 Jacques, serviteur de Dieu et du Christ Jésus, le Seigneur, salue les Douze tribus dispersées dans le monde.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;	2 Frères, soyez joyeux quand vous passez par des épreuves de toute sorte.
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.	3 Cette mise à l’épreuve de votre foi développe votre force de résistance,
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.	4 et votre force de résistance doit atteindre un sommet si vous voulez être vous-mêmes parfaits, complets, sans rien de négatif.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.	5 Si quelqu’un voit que la sagesse lui fait défaut, qu’il demande à Dieu et il recevra, car Dieu donne volontiers à tous, sans se faire prier.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.	6 Mais il faut demander avec foi, sans avoir peur, car celui qui hésite est comme les vagues de la mer, livrées aux vents.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.	7 Celui qui en est là ne doit pas croire qu’il recevra quoi que ce soit du Seigneur.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.	8 L’homme incertain, toute son existence sera instable.
9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:	9 Le frère de condition inférieure doit se réjouir quand sa situation s’améliore.
10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.	10 Et le riche, de même, doit se réjouir quand il est rabaissé, car il lui faut passer comme la fleur des champs.
11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.	11 Le soleil se lève et vient la chaleur, l’herbe se dessèche, sa fleur tombe et perd sa belle apparence. Le riche de même verra retomber ses affaires.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.	12 Heureux l’homme qui a supporté l’épreuve; car celui qui en est sorti éprouvé, recevra la couronne de vie que Dieu a promise à ceux qui l’aiment.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:	13 Il ne faut jamais dire au moment de l’épreuve: “Dieu veut me faire tomber!” Car, si Dieu est à l’abri de tout mal, de son côté il ne cherche à faire tomber personne.
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.	14 Pour chacun la tentation vient de sa propre convoitise qui l’attire et le séduit.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.	15 Alors la convoitise devient mère et met au monde le péché. Le péché grandit, mûrit, et la mort est son fruit.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.	16 Donc, mes bien-aimés, ne vous y trompez pas:
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.	17 toute chose bonne qui vous est donnée, tout don parfait, vient d’en haut. Il descend d’auprès du Père, chez qui la lumière est toujours au fixe et les ombres ne passent pas.
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.	18 De propos délibéré, il nous a engendrés par la parole de vérité pour que nous soyons la fleur de toute sa création.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:	19 Voyez, frères bien-aimés: chacun doit être prêt à écouter, et ne pas parler tout de suite - et ne pas se mettre tout de suite en colère.
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.	20 Car la colère de l’homme ne fait pas la justice de Dieu.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.	21 Remplacez donc par la douceur toutes les ordures et les excès du mal, et accueillez la parole qu’on a semée en vous, qui a le pouvoir de sauver vos âmes.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.	22 Ne soyez pas seulement des auditeurs de la parole; passez à l’action, ou bien vous êtes dans l’illusion.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:	23 Un auditeur de la Parole qui ne passe pas à l’action est comme cet homme qui observait son visage dans un miroir;
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.	24 il se regardait, mais sitôt parti il ne savait plus comment il était.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.	25 C’est le contraire pour celui qui se penche sur la loi parfaite, la loi libératrice, et qui s’y attarde, et qui passe aux œuvres au lieu de rester un auditeur. Heureux est-il, car il l’a mise en pratique.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.	26 Si quelqu’un se croit très religieux alors qu’il ne contrôle pas ses paroles, il se trompe lui-même et sa religion ne vaut rien.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.	27 Voici quelle est la religion sincère et sans reproche aux yeux de Dieu notre Père: prendre soin des orphelins et des veuves en détresse et ne pas se laisser contaminer par le monde.
