Hosea 13

1 When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.	1 Sooft Ephraim (nur) redete, herrschte Schrecken: hoch (= angesehen) stand es in Israel da; als es sich aber durch den Baalsdienst versündigte, starb es hin.
2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.	2 Und jetzt sündigen sie immer aufs neue: sie fertigen sich Gußbilder aus ihrem Silber an, Götzen nach ihrem Geschmack, allesamt Machwerke von Handwerkern (oder: Künstlern). »Ihnen«, sagen sie, »bringet Opfer dar!« Menschen sollen Stiere küssen!
3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.	3 »Darum sollen sie dem Morgengewölk gleich werden und dem Tau, der gar bald verschwindet, wie Spreu, die von der Tenne verweht wird, und wie Rauch, der durch die Gitteröffnung abzieht.
4 Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.	4 Ich aber bin der HERR dein Gott vom Lande Ägypten her; einen Gott außer mir kennst du nicht, und einen Helfer (oder: Heiland) außer mir gibt es nicht.«
5 I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.	5 »Ich habe mich deiner angenommen in der Wüste, (dich geweidet) im Lande der sengenden Gluten.
6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.	6 Als sie gute Weide hatten, wurden sie satt, und als sie satt geworden waren, überhob sich ihr Sinn; darum haben sie mich vergessen.
7 Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:	7 Da bin ich ihnen denn wie ein Löwe geworden, liege wie ein Panther auf der Lauer am Wege;
8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.	8 ich falle sie an wie eine Bärin, der die Jungen geraubt sind, und zerreiße ihnen den Verschluß ihres Herzens (= das Herz tief in der Brust); ich fresse sie dort wie eine Löwin; die wilden Tiere sollen sie zerfleischen!
9 O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.	9 Das ist dein Verderben gewesen, Israel, daß du von mir, deinem Helfer, nichts wissen willst.
10 I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?	10 Wo ist denn nun dein König, daß er dir in allen deinen Städten helfe? Und wo sind deine Richter (= Fürsten) (, daß sie dir Recht schaffen)? Du hast ja doch von ihnen gesagt: ›Gib mir einen König und Fürsten!‹
11 I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.	11 Ich gebe dir einen König in meinem Zorn und nehme ihn wieder weg in meinem Grimm!« –
12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.	12 »Wohlverwahrt ist Ephraims Schuld, wohlgeborgen seine Sünde.
13 The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.	13 Geburtswehen kommen ihn an, aber er ist ein unverständiges Kind; denn zur rechten Zeit tritt er nicht zum Durchbruch in den Muttermund ein.
14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.	14 Aus der Gewalt des Totenreiches sollte ich sie befreien, vom Tode sie loskaufen? Nein, wo sind deine Seuchen, o Tod? Wo ist deine Pest, o Unterwelt (= Hölle)? Mitleid ist meinen Augen unbekannt!
15 Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.	15 Denn mag Ephraim auch wie Riedgras zwischen Wassern üppig sprossen – der Ostwind wird kommen, ein Sturm des HERRN aus der Steppe hereinbrechen; da wird sein Born versiegen und sein Quellgrund vertrocknen: der (d.h. der als Ostwind heranstürmende Feind) wird die Schatzkammer aller kostbaren Kleinodien berauben.
16 Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
