Hosea 13

1 When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.	1 Quand Éphraïm parlait, tout le monde avait peur; il était considéré en Israël, mais le péché commis avec Baal lui a valu la mort.
2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.	2 Ils continuent de pécher; avec leur argent ils se sont fait une idole de métal, dessinée selon leur goût. Tout cela n’est qu’un travail d’ouvriers. Ils disent: “Offrez-leur des sacrifices!” et des hommes envoient des baisers à des veaux.
3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.	3 C’est pourquoi ils seront comme la rosée du matin, comme la rosée qui bientôt se dissipe, comme la bale emportée loin de l’aire à battre, comme la fumée qui sort par la fenêtre.
4 Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.	4 Mais moi, Yahvé, je suis ton Dieu depuis le pays d’Égypte; tu ne connais pas d’autre Dieu que moi et tu n’as pas de sauveur en dehors de moi.
5 I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.	5 Je t’ai connu au désert, au pays de la sécheresse.
6 According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.	6 Je les ai fait paître et ils se sont rassasiés; mais aussitôt rassasiés leur cœur s’est gonflé d’orgueil et ils m’ont oublié.
7 Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:	7 Je me suis donc changé pour eux en un lion. Je reste à l’affût comme le léopard au bord du chemin;
8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.	8 je tombe sur eux comme une ourse privée de ses petits, et je déchire l’enveloppe de leur cœur. Comme une lionne je les dévore sur place et les bêtes sauvages les déchirent.
9 O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.	9 Israël, te voilà détruit; qui viendra te sauver?
10 I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?	10 Où donc est ton roi pour qu’il te sauve, où sont tes chefs pour qu’ils te protègent? Ne disais-tu pas: Donne-moi un roi et des chefs?
11 I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.	11 Eh bien, dans ma colère je t’ai donné un roi, et dans ma fureur je le reprends.
12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.	12 La faute d’Éphraïm est gardée en réserve, son péché est dans un lieu sûr.
13 The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.	13 Les douleurs de l’enfantement viennent sur lui, mais l’enfant est stupide et ne sort pas du sein le moment venu.
14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.	14 Devrais-je les délivrer du séjour des morts? Devrais-je les sauver de la mort? Non! Où est donc ton fléau, ô mort? Et toi, séjour des morts, où est ta destruction? Je ne veux plus avoir pitié d’eux.
15 Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.	15 Éphraïm a su croître plus que ses frères, mais le vent d’est viendra, le souffle de Yahvé montera du désert; il mettra à sec sa source et sa fontaine ne coulera plus; il desséchera sa terre et tout ce à quoi il tenait.
16 Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
