Proverbs 31

1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.	1 Parole del re Lamuele, visione colla quale lo istruì sua madre.
2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?	2 E che (dirti), o mio diletto? Che mai, o diletto del mio seno? Quale cosa, o diletto dei miei voti?
3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.	3 Non dare i tuoi boni alle donne, e le tue ricchezze a distruggere i re.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:	4 Non dare, o Lamuele, non dare il vino ai re; perchè non vi è segreto dove regna l'ebbrezza;
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.	5 perchè forse dopo aver bevuto, dimentican la legge, e tradiscon la causa dei figli del povero.
6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.	6 Date la sicera agli afflitti, e il vino a quelli che hanno l'animo straziato.
7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.	7 Che bevano e dimentichino la loro miseria, e non si ricordino più del loro dolere.
8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.	8 Apri la tua bocca in favore del muto e per difendere la causa di tutti i pellegrini.
9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.	9 Apri la tua bocca, decreta ciò che è giusto, e rendi giustizia all'indigente e al povero.
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.	10 La donna forte chi potrà trovarla? Più delle perle venute dall'estremità della terra essa vale,
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.	11 in lei confida il cuore del suo sposo e non mancheranno le ricchezze.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.	12 Essa gli darà sempre gioie e mai dispiaceri per tutto il tempo della sua vita.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.	13 Essa, procuratasi della lana e del lino, li lavora colle sue mani capaci.
14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.	14 Simile a nave mercantile, da lungi fa venire il suo vitto.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.	15 Alzandosi quando è ancor notte, distribuisce le porzioni ai suoi domestici, e il vitto alle sue ancelle.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.	16 Adocchiato un campo l'acquista, col frutto del suo lavoro pianta una vigna.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.	17 Essa cinge di forza i suoi fianchi e rende forte il suo braccio.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.	18 Avendo provato con gioia e veduto che il suo lavoro le frutta, non fa spegnere durante la notte la sua lucerna.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.	19 Mette mano alta cose forti, e le sue dita maneggiano il fuso.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.	20 Apre la mano ai miseri e stende le palme ai bisognosi.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.	21 Non teme per la sua famiglia i freddi della neve, chè tutti i suoi domestici han doppi vestiti.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.	22 Si è fatta una veste ricamata, e il suo vestito è di bisso e di porpora.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.	23 Rinomato è alle porte il suo marito, quando siede tra gli anziani del posto.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.	24 Essa fa dei finissimi tessuti e li vende, e delle cinture che dà al Cananeo.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.	25 Vestita di fortezza e di decoro può andar lieta incontro all'avvenire.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.	26 Apre la sua bocca alla sapienza, e la legge della bontà è nella sua lingua.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.	27 Sorveglia l'andamento della sua casa e non mangia il pane senza far nulla.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.	28 Sorgono i suoi figli a proclamarla oltremodo felice e il suo marito la loda.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.	29 « Molte figlie ammassarono ricchezze, ma tu le hai superate tutte ».
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.	30 L'avvenenza è un inganno, la bellezza è un'ombra: la donna che teme il Signore, quella sarà lodata.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.	31 Date a lei il frutto del suo lavoro, e le sue opere la lodino alle porte.
