1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.	1 - Parole di Lamuele re di Massa, con cui sua madre l'istruì.
2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?	2 E che, o mio diletto, e che, diletto delle mie viscere, e che, diletto dei miei voti [ti dirò io]?
3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.	3 Non dare alle donne i tuoi beni, nè le tue ricchezze a ciò ch'è la rovina dei re.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:	4 Ai re no, Lamuele, ai re no non dare vino a bere, perchè non c'è nessun segreto dove regna l'ebrietà;
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.	5 e può accadere che bevano e si dimentichino delle leggi, e tradiscano la causa dei figli del povero.
6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.	6 Date da bere agli afflittie vino a quelli che hanno il cuore amareggiato.
7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.	7 Bevano e scordino la loro miseria e il loro travaglio più non rammentino.
8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.	8 Apri la tua bocca in favore del muto e per la causa di tutti i figli di chi non è più.
9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.	9 Apri la tua bocca e discerni ciò che è giusto e fa' ragione al bisognoso ed al povero.
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.	10 Una brava donna chi la troverà? ha il pregio delle rarità dei più remoti confini.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.	11 Il cuor di suo marito in lei s'affida e non mancherà di nulla.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.	12 Gli corrisponderà bene e non male, tutti i giorni di sua vita.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.	13 Si procacciò la lana ed il lino e lavorò industriandosi colle sue mani.
14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.	14 Fatta simile alla nave d'un mercante: fa venire da lontano il suo sostentamento.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.	15 S'alza che è ancor notte e appresta il vitto alla sua famiglia ed il cibo alle sue ancelle.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.	16 Avvistò un campo e lo comprò; col frutto delle sue mani, piantò una vigna.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.	17 Cinse di forza i suoi fianchie ingagliardì il suo braccio.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.	18 Con gusto vide che i suoi negozi vanno bene; di notte la sua lucerna non si spegnerà.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.	19 Pone mano a lavori utilie le sue dita strinsero il fuso.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.	20 Allargò la mano al bisognoso e tese le palme al povero.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.	21 Non teme, per la sua casa, il freddo della neve, perchè tutti di sua famiglia hanno vesti doppie.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.	22 Si è fatta una veste ricamata, è bisso e porpora il suo indumento.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.	23 Il marito alle porte è riverito, quando siede con gli anziani del pa ese.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.	24 Lavorò un manto e lo vendette, e una cintura che consegnò al mercante.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.	25 Fortezza e decoro è la sua veste e sorride del giorno avvenire.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.	26 Aprì la sua bocca alla saggezza e sulla sua lingua è la legge della bontà.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.	27 Essa stessa sorveglia gli andamenti di casa sua e non mangia il pane nell'oziosità.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.	28 Sorsero i suoi figli e la proclamarono sommamente beata, suo marito anche è un elogio per lei:
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.	29 «Molte figliuole raccolsero dovizia, ma tu le hai tutte superate».
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.	30 Fallace è la grazia e vana la beltà; la donna che teme Dio, quella avrà lode.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.	31 Rendete omaggio al frutto delle sue mani, e le sue azioni la celebrino alle porte.
