Proverbs 31

1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.	1 Parole del re Lamuele. Profezia, colla quale lo istruì la sua madre.
2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?	2 E che, o mio diletto? e che, o caro frutto del mio seno? e che, o amato oggetto de' voti miei?
3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.	3 Non consumare il tuo bene nelle donne, nè le tue ricchezze in quello che fa lo sterminio dei re.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:	4 Non permettere ai re, o Lamuele, non permettere il vino: perocché dove regna ebbrezza, non v'è segreto:
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.	5 E perché dopo aver bevuto non si scordino di far giustizia, e non tradiscano la causa de' figliuoli del povero.
6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.	6 Date la sicera agli afflitti, e il vino a quelli, che hanno il cuore amareggiato:
7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.	7 Questi bevano, e si scordino di lor miseria, e non abbiano più memoria del lor dolore.
8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.	8 Apri tu la tua bocca in favore del mutolo, e a difesa di tutti i passeggeri:
9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.	9 Apri la tua bocca, ordina quello che è giusto, e rendi ragione al meschinello, ed al povero.
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.	10 Chi troverà una donna forte? il pregio di lei è come delle cose portate di lontano, e dalle estremità della terra.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.	11 In lei riposa il cuor del suo sposo, il quale non avrà bisogno di proccurarsi bottino.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.	12 Ella del bene darà a lui, e non del male, per tutti i giorni che durerà la sua vita.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.	13 Ella si proccura della lana, e del lino, e lo mette in opra colla perizia delle sue mani.
14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.	14 Ella o simile alla nave di un mercatante, la quale porta da lungi il suo sostentamento.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.	15 Ella si alza, che è ancor notte, e distribuisce il vitto alla gente di casa, e il mangiare alle sue serve.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.	16 Pose gli occhi sopra un podere, e io comperò; del guadagno delle sue mani piantovvi una vigna.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.	17 Ella si cinge di fortezza i suoi fianchi, e fa robusto il suo braccio.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.	18 Ella provò, e vide come il suo negozio le frutta: la sua lacerna non si spegne la notte.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.	19 Ella a forti cose stende la mano: le sue dita maneggiano il fuso.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.	20 Apre la mano ai miserabili, e stende le palme ai poverelli.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.	21 Non teme per que' di sua casa il freddo, o la neve; perché tutti i suoi domestici han doppia veste.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.	22 Ella si fa dei tappeti di varj colori: il suo abito è di bisso, e di porpora.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.	23 Bella figura farà il suo sposo alle porte assise trai senatori del luogo.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.	24 Fabbrica fine vesti di lino, e le vende, e da ai Cananei mercatanti delle cinture.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.	25 Ella si ammanta di fortezza, e di decoro, e sarà lieta negli ultimi giorni.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.	26 Con saggezza apre ella la sua bocca, e la legge della bontà governa sua lingua.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.	27 Sta attenta agli andamenti di sua gente, e il pane non mangia nell'ozio.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.	28 Sorgono i figli di lei, e la annunziano per sommamente beata; il suo marito, e le dà lode.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.	29 Molte son le fanciulle, che hanno adunate delle ricchezze: tu le hai superate tutte quante.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.	30 Fallace è l'avvenenza, ed è vana la beltà: la donna, che teme il Signore sarà quella, che avrà lode.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.	31 Date a lei de' frutti delle sue mani, e lo opere sue la celebrino alle porte.
