Proverbs 31

1 The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.	1 Parole di Lemuèl, re di Massa, insegnategli da sua madre.
2 What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?	2 E che, figlio mio! E che, figlio del mio seno! E che, figlio dei miei voti!
3 Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.	3 Non concedere alle donne il tuo vigore, i tuoi fianchi a quelle che rovinano i sovrani!
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:	4 Non conviene ai re, o Lemuèl, non conviene ai re bere vino, né ai prìncipi desiderar liquori,
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.	5 ché bevendo scordi ciò che ha decretato e àlteri il diritto a tutti gli infelici!
6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.	6 Date bevande forti a chi sta per morire e vino a chi è nell'amarezza.
7 Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.	7 Beva per dimenticar la sua miseria, e non ricordarsi più della sua pena.
8 Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.	8 Apri la bocca tua per chi è muto, per la causa di tutti i derelitti!
9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.	9 Apri la bocca tua, giudica con giustizia, rendi giustizia all'infelice e al povero!
10 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.	10 Una donna efficiente chi la trova? E' superiore alle perle il suo valore.
11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.	11 Confida in lei il cuore di suo marito, che ne ricaverà sempre un vantaggio.
12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.	12 Gli procura ciò che è bene, non il male, per tutti i giorni della sua vita.
13 She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.	13 Si interessa della lana e del lino, sta sempre occupata con le mani.
14 She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.	14 E' come le navi d'un mercante, che fa venir da lontano il suo pane.
15 She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.	15 S'alza quando è ancora buio, per distribuire il vitto ai suoi domestici e dare ordini alle sue domestiche.
16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.	16 Mette l'occhio su un campo e l'acquista; col frutto delle sue mani pianta una vigna.
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.	17 Stringe forte i propri fianchi, irrobustisce le sue braccia.
18 She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.	18 Sperimenta l'utilità del suo lavoro, non si spegne di notte la sua lampada.
19 She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.	19 Le sue mani ella mette alla conocchia, le sue dita si occupan del fuso.
20 She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.	20 Tende le sue mani verso il povero e le sue dita stende all'infelice.
21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.	21 Non teme la neve per i familiari, perché i domestici hanno doppia veste.
22 She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.	22 S'è procurata bei tappeti, bisso e porpora sono le sue vesti.
23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.	23 E' stimato alla porta suo marito, quando siede con gli anziani del paese.
24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.	24 Tesse drappi di lino e li rivende, una cintura vende al commerciante.
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.	25 Forza e prestanza sono il suo vestito, guarda sicura al tempo avvenire.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.	26 La sua bocca apre con saggezza, un insegnamento fedele è sopra la sua lingua.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.	27 Sorveglia il va e vieni della casa, non mangia il pane della sua pigrizia.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.	28 Si levano i suoi figli, si felicitano con lei, suo marito tesse il suo elogio:
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.	29 Molte donne sono state efficienti, ma tu le sorpassi tutte quante.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.	30 Falsa è la grazia, vana la bellezza! La donna saggia, quella va lodata!
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.	31 Datele il frutto delle proprie mani, la lodino alle porte le sue opere!
