KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.1 A psalm. A song for the dedication of the temple. Of David.
O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.2 I praise you, LORD, for you raised me up and did not let my enemies rejoice over me.
O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.3 O LORD, my God, I cried out to you and you healed me.
Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.4 LORD, you brought me up from Sheol; you kept me from going down to the pit.
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.5 Sing praise to the LORD, you faithful; give thanks to God's holy name.
And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.6 For divine anger lasts but a moment; divine favor lasts a lifetime. At dusk weeping comes for the night; but at dawn there is rejoicing.
LORD, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled.7 Complacent, I once said, "I shall never be shaken."
I cried to thee, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication.8 LORD, when you showed me favor I stood like the mighty mountains. But when you hid your face I was struck with terror.
What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth?9 To you, LORD, I cried out; with the Lord I pleaded for mercy:
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper.10 "What gain is there from my lifeblood, from my going down to the grave? Does dust give you thanks or declare your faithfulness?
Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;11 Hear, O LORD, have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper."
To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.12 You changed my mourning into dancing; you took off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.
With my whole being I sing endless praise to you. O LORD, my God, forever will I give you thanks.
