Exodus 20

1 And God spake all these words, saying,	1 Dio allora pronunciò queste parole:
2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.	2 «Sono io Jahvè tuo Dio che ti ho fatto uscire dalla terra d’Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.	3 Tu non avrai altri dèi all’infuori di me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:	4 Non ti farai immagini scolpite né alcuna figura di quanto è in alto nei cieli né di quanto è in basso sulla terra né di quanto è sotto la terra nelle acque.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;	5 Non ti prostrerai davanti ad essi né renderai loro un culto, poiché io, Jahvè tuo Dio, sono un Dio geloso, che punisce la colpa dei padri sui figli fino alla terza e quarta generazione di coloro che mi odiano,
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.	6 ma che usa benevolenza fino alla millesima generazione di coloro che mi amano e osservano i miei precetti,
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.	7 Non ti servirai del nome di Jahvè tuo Dio per una menzogna; poiché Jahvè non lascia impunito colui che si serve del suo nome per una menzogna.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.	8 Ricordati del giorno di sabato per santificarlo.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:	9 Per sei giorni lavorerai e farai ogni tuo lavoro, ma il settimo giorno è un sabato in onore di Jahvè tuo Dio:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:	10 non farai alcun lavoro; né tu né tuo figlio né tua figlia né il tuo schiavo né la tua schiava né il tuo bestiame né il forestiero dentro le tue porte.
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.	11 Poiché in sei giorni Jahvè ha fatto il cielo, la terra, il mare e tutto ciò che vi è in essi, ma al settimo giorno egli si è riposato. Per questo Jahvè ha benedetto il settimo giorno e lo ha dichiarato sacro.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.	12 Onora tuo padre e tua madre e così avrai lunga vita sulla terra che Jahvè tuo Dio ti concede.
13 Thou shalt not kill.	13 Non ucciderai.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.	14 Non commetterai adulterio,
15 Thou shalt not steal.	15 Non ruberai.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.	16 Non proferirai contro il tuo prossimo una testimonianza falsa.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.	17 Non desidererai la casa del tuo prossimo, non desidererai la donna del tuo prossimo, il suo schiavo, la sua schiava, il suo bue, il suo asino e tutto ciò che è del tuo prossimo».
18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.	18 Tutto il popolo, al cospetto dei tuoni, dei lampi, del suono delle trombe e del monte fumante, temeva, tremava e si teneva a distanza.
19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.	19 Disse a Mosè: «Parlaci tu e noi ascolteremo; ma non ci parli Dio, affinché non moriamo!»
20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.	20 Mosè rispose al popolo: «Non temete! Dio è venuto per provarvi e affinché, avendo voi presente il suo timore, non pecchiate».
21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.	21 Il popolo si tenne a distanza, mentre Mosè si avvicinò alla nube oscura dové stava Dio.
22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.	22 Jahvè disse a Mosè: «Parlerai ai figli di Israele: “Voi stessi avete visto che io vi ho parlato dall’alto del cielo.
23 Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.	23 Non farete, a mio riguardo, dèi d’argento e non vi farete dèi d’oro.
24 An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.	24 Mi farai un altare di terra per immolare su di esso i tuoi olocausti e i tuoi sacrifici pacifici, il tuo bestiame minuto e il tuo bestiame grosso. In ogni luogo in cui io farò ricordare il mio nome, là io verrò da te e ti benedirò.
25 And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.	25 Se mi fai un altare di pietre, non fabbricarlo con pietre levigate, poiché tu profani ciò su cui sfreghi la tua lama.
26 Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.	26 Non salirai con gradini al mio altare, affinché ivi non si scopra la tua nudità”».
