1 And God spake all these words, saying,	1 E il Signore pronunziò tutte queste parole:
2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.	2 Io sono il Signore Dio tuo, che ti ho tratto dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.	3 Non avrai altri dèi nel mio cospetto.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:	4 Non ti farai nessuna scultura, nè rappresentazione di quel che è lassù nel cielo, o quaggiù in terra, o nelle acque sotto la terra.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;	5 Non adorerai tali cose, nè presterai loro culto: Io sono il Signore Dio tuo forte e geloso, che visito l'iniquità dei padri sopra i figli fino alla terza e alla quarta generazione di quelli che mi odiano;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.	6 e fo misericordia fino alla millesima di quelli che mi amano e osservano i miei comandamenti.
7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.	7 Non userai invano il nome del Signore Dio tuo, perchè il Signore non terrà per innocente chi avrà usato invano il nome del Signore Dio suo.
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.	8 Ricordati di santificare il giorno di sabato:
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:	9 per sei giorni lavorerai e farai tutte le tue opere;
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:	10 ma nel settimo giorno, sabato del Signore Dio tuo, non farai alcun lavoro, nè tu, nè il tuo figlio, nè la tua figlia, nè il tuo servo, nè la tua serva, nè il tuo giumento, nè il forestiero che è dentro le tue porte;
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.	11 perchè in sei giorni il Signore fece il cielo e la terra, il mare e quanto in essi si contiene, e nel settimo giorno si riposò. Dunque il Signore ha benedetto il giorno del sabato e lo ha santificato.
12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.	12 Onora tuo padre e tua madre, affinchè tu viva lungamente sulla terra che ti darà il Signore Dio tuo.
13 Thou shalt not kill.	13 Non ammazzare.
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.	14 Non commettere adulterio.
15 Thou shalt not steal.	15 Non rubare.
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.	16 Non attestare il falso contro il tuo prossimo.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.	17 Non desiderare la casa del tuo prossimo; non desiderare la sua moglie, nè il suo servo, nè la sua serva, nè il suo bue, nè il suo asino, nè altra cosa che gli appartenga ».
18 And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off.	18 Or tutto il popolo, sentendo i tuoni e il suono della tromba, e vedendo i lampi e il monte che fumava, atterrito e oppresso dalla paura se ne stette da lungi,
19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die.	19 dicendo a Mosè: «Parlaci tu, e noi ascolteremo: non ci parli il Signore, chè non abbiamo a morirne ».
20 And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.	20 E Mosè disse al popolo: « Non v'impaurite: Dio è venuto per provarvi, affinchè il suo timore sia in voi, e non pecchiate ».
21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.	21 Il popolo adunque se ne stette in lontananza, e Mosè s'avvicinò alla caligine nella quale era Dio.
22 And the LORD said unto Moses, Thus thou shalt say unto the children of Israel, Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.	22 Poi il Signore disse a Mosè: « Queste cose dirai ai figli d'Israele: Voi avete veduto come vi ho parlato dal cielo,
23 Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.	23 Non vi farete degli dèi d'argento nè d'oro.
24 An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.	24 Mi farete un altare di terra, e sopra di esso offrirete i vostri olocausti, le vostre ostie pacifiche, le vostre pecore e i vostri buoi, in ogni luogo in cui vi sarà la memoria del mio nome, ed io verrò a te e ti benedirò.
25 And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.	25 Se poi mi fai un altare di pietra, non lo fare di pietre squadrate, perchè, se vi alzerai sopra lo scalpello, sarà contaminato.
26 Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.	26 E non salire per gradini al mio altare affinchè non si scopra la tua nudità ».
