1 Van az ezüstnek lelőhelye, és helye az aranynak, ahol kimossák,	1 Silver has its mines, and gold a place for refining.
2 a vasat a földből hozzák elő, s a melegtől megolvadt kő érccé változik,	2 Iron is extracted from the earth, the smelted rocks yield copper.
3 határt vet az ember a sötétségnek, és felkutatja mindennek a végét, a homály köveit és a halál árnyékát is.	3 Man makes an end of darkness, to the utmost limit he digs the black rock in shadow dark as death.
4 Tárnákat nyit idegen nép, leereszkedik oda, hová ember még nem tette lábát, és lebeg távol az emberektől.	4 Foreigners bore into ravines in unfrequented places, swinging suspended far from human beings.
5 A kenyértermő földet, tűzzel forgatja fel alul,	5 That earth from which bread comes is ravaged underground by fire.
6 köveiben zafírt talál és porában arany van,	6 There, the rocks have veins of sapphire and their dust contains gold.
7 ösvényét madár nem ismeri, s a keselyű szeme ki nem fürkészi,	7 That is a path unknown to birds of prey, unseen by the eye of any vulture;
8 nem tapossák azt büszke vadak, nem jár azon oroszlán.	8 a path not trodden by the lordly beasts, where no lion ever walked.
9 Ráteszi kezét a kemény sziklára, felforgatja a hegyek fenekét,	9 Man attacks the flint, upturning mountains by their roots.
10 aknákat vág a sziklában, és a szeme mindenféle drágaságra mered,	10 He cuts canals through the rock, on the watch for anything precious.
11 megvizsgálja a folyók fenekét és rejtett dolgokat hoz napvilágra.	11 He explores the sources of rivers, bringing hidden things to light.
12 De hol található a bölcsesség, és hol van az értelem lelőhelye?	12 But where does Wisdom come from? Where is Intel igence to be found?
13 Ember a hozzá vivő utat nem ismeri, és nem lehet azt az élők földjén megtalálni.	13 No human being knows the way to her, she is not to be found on earth where they live.
14 A mélység mondja: ‘Nincsen bennem!’ S a tenger így szól: ‘Nincsen nálam!’	14 'She is not in me,' says the Abyss; 'Nor here,' replies the Sea.
15 Nem lehet azt megszerezni színarannyal, nem lehet árát lemérni ezüstben;	15 She cannot be bought with solid gold, nor paid for with any weight of silver,

17 nem ér fel vele sem arany, sem üveg, nem lehet becserélni arany holmiért.	17 Neither gold nor glass compares with her, for her, a vase of fine gold would be no exchange,
18 Ne említsék mellette a korállt meg a kristályt; a bölcsesség birtoka többet ér a gyöngynél!	18 let alone coral or crystal: better go fishing for Wisdom than for pearls!
19 Nem ér fel vele Kús topáza, értékesebb a legtisztább festéknél.	19 Topaz from Cush is worthless in comparison, and gold, even refined, is valueless.
20 Honnan jő tehát a bölcsesség? hol van az értelem lelőhelye?	20 But where does Wisdom come from? Where is Intel igence to be found?
21 El van az rejtve minden élő szeme elől, az ég madarai sem tudják.	21 She cannot be seen by any living creature, she is hidden from the birds of the sky.

25 Amikor a szeleknek súlyt adott s a vizeket kimérte mértékkel,	25 When he wil ed to give weight to the wind and measured out the waters with a gauge,

27 akkor látta s megszámlálta, odaállította s megvizsgálta.	27 then he saw and evaluated her, looked her through and through, assessing her.
28 Az embernek pedig mondta: ‘Íme, az Úr félelme: ez a bölcsesség, s a gonosztól távozni: ez az értelem.’«	28 Then he said to human beings, 'Wisdom? - that is fear of the Lord; Intel igence? - avoidance of evil.'
