1 Riprese a parlare Baldad Suhite, e disse:	1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied and said:
2 « Fino a quando getterete via le parole? Mettete giudizio e poi parleremo.	2 When will you put an end to words? Reflect, and then we can have discussion.
3 Perchè trattarci come giumenti e considerarci come immondezze?	3 Why are we accounted like the beasts, their equals in your sight?
4 O tu, che rovini l'anima tua nel tuo furore, dovrà per causa tua esser abbandonata la terra e dal loro posto trasportate le rupi?	4 You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be neglected on your account (or the rock be moved out of its place)?
5 Non è forse vero che la luce dell'empio deve spegnersi, che la fiamma del suo focolare non farà lume?	5 Truly, the light of the wicked is extinguished; no flame brightens his hearth.
6 Si oscurerà il lume nella sua tenda e la lucerna che sta sopra di lui sarà spenta.	6 The light is darkened in his tent; in spite of him, his lamp goes out.
7 I passi della sua potenza saranno raccorciati, i suoi disegni lo getteranno in un precipizio.	7 His vigorous steps are hemmed in, and his own counsel casts him down.
8 Va a mettere i suoi piedi in una rete e cammina sulle sue maglie;	8 For he rushes headlong into a net, and he wanders into a pitfall.
9 il suo piede sarà preso al laccio. Una sete ardente lo consumerà.	9 A trap seizes him by the heel, and a snare lays hold of him.
10 Il laccio gli sta steso per terra e la trappola sul sentiero.	10 A noose for him is hid on the ground, and the toils for him on the way.
11 Da ogni parte lo atterriranno gli spaventi, gli avvilupperanno i piedi.	11 On every side terrors affright him; they harry him at each step.
12 Venga meno dalla fame la sua forza e l'inedia gli stia alle costole.	12 Disaster is ready at his side,
13 Divori la bellezza della sua pelle, consumi le sue braccia la morte primogenita.	13 the first-born of death consumes his limbs.
14 Sia strappato dalla sua tenda, in cui era sicuro, e lo calpesti come un re la morte.	14 Fiery destruction lodges in his tent, and marches him off to the king of terrors. He is plucked from the security of his tent;
15 Scomparso lui, ne occupino la tenda i suoi compagni, e nella sua dimora sia sparso lo zolfo,	15 over his abode brimstone is scattered.
16 di sotto gli secchino le radici, di sopra gli sian tagliati i rami.	16 Below, his roots dry up, and above, his branches wither.
17 Sparisca dalla terra la sua memoria, il suo nome non sia rammentato sulle piazze.	17 His memory perishes from the land, and he has no name on the earth.
18 Sia cacciato dalla luce nelle tenebre, portato via dal mondo,	18 He is driven from light into darkness, and banished out of the world.
19 non avrà nè discendenza nè famiglia nel suo popolo, nè superstite nella sua patria.	19 He has neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any survior where once he dwelt.
20 Pel suo giorno stupiranno gli ultimi, e i primi saranno invasi dal terrore.	20 They who come after shall be appalled at his fate; they who went before are struck with horror.
21 Così va a finire la casa dell'empio, tale è la sorte di chi ignora Dio ».	21 So is it then with the dwelling of the impious man, and such is the place of him who knows not God!
