CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINKING JAMES BIBLE
A Canticle in steps. From the depths, I have cried out to you, O Lord.1 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:
O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplication.2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.
If you, O Lord, were to heed iniquities, who, O Lord, could persevere?3 The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.
For with you, there is forgiveness, and because of your law, I persevered with you, Lord. My soul has persevered in his word.4 The LORD is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.
My soul has hoped in the Lord.5 Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.
From the morning watch, even until night, let Israel hope in the Lord.6 Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:
For with the Lord there is mercy, and with him there is bountiful redemption.7 Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.
And he will redeem Israel from all his iniquities.8 Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the LORD be upon you: we bless you in the name of the LORD.
