1 Прийшло до мене кілька старших Ізраїля і посідало передо мною.	1 When certain elders of Israel came and sat down before me,
2 І надійшло до мене слово Господнє:	2 the word of the LORD came to me:
3 «Сину чоловічий! Мужі ці поставили своїх бовванів у себе в серці й тримають увесь час перед очима в себе цю спонуку до гріха. Чи ж погодитись мені на те, щоб вони мене запитували?	3 Son of man, these men have the memory of their idols fresh in their hearts, and they keep the occasion of their sin before them. Why should I allow myself to be consulted by them?
4 Тому говори з ними й скажи їм: Так говорить Господь Бог: Кожен з дому Ізраїля, що триматиме бовванів у себе в серці й що покладе перед очима в себе привід до гріха та прийде до пророка, — такому відповім я, Господь, — не зважаючи на безліч його бовванів,	4 Therefore speak with them, and say to them: Thus says the Lord GOD: If anyone of the house of Israel, holding the memory of his idols in his heart and keeping the occasion of his sin before him, has recourse to a prophet, I, the LORD, will be his answer in person because of his many idols.
5 щоб узяти дім Ізраїля за серце, їх, що відступили від мене заради своїх бовванів.	5 Thus would I bring back to their senses the house of Israel, who have become estranged from me through all their idols.
6 Тому скажи домові Ізраїля: Так говорить Господь Бог: Наверніться, відверніться від ваших бовванів і відверніть ваше обличчя від усіх гидот ваших;	6 Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord GOD: Return and be converted from your idols; turn yourselves away from all your abominations.
7 бо коли хтось із дому Ізраїля або з чужинців, що перебувають у Ізраїлі, відцурається мене, щоб поставити своїх бовванів у себе в серці, та матиме привід до гріха ввесь час перед собою, і прийде до пророка, щоб через нього в мене питати ради, то я, Господь, відповім йому від себе.	7 For if anyone of the house of Israel or any alien resident in Israel is estranged from me, and holds the memory of his idols in his heart and keeps the occasion of his sin before him, yet asks a prophet to consult me for him, I, the LORD, will be his answer in person.
8 Я оберну моє обличчя проти такого, зроблю його ознакою та притчею, і викоріню його з-поміж мого народу, і ви взнаєте, що я — Господь.	8 I will turn against that man, and make of him an example and a byword. I will cut him off from the midst of my people. Thus you shall know that I am the LORD.
9 Коли ж пророк дав би звести себе й став щось говорити, то це я. Господь, звів того пророка. Я простягну мою руку проти нього й викоріню його з-поміж мого народу Ізраїля.	9 As for the prophet, if he is beguiled into speaking a word, I, the LORD, shall have beguiled that prophet; I will stretch out my hand against him and root him out of my people Israel.
10 Вони візьмуть на себе вину за гріх свій; яка вина пророка, така вина того, хто його питає,	10 Each shall receive punishment for his sin, the inquirer and the prophet shall be punished alike,
11 щоб дім Ізраїля не відхилявся більш від мене та щоб не осквернявся усіма своїми гріхами, а щоб були моїм народом, а я їхнім Богом», — слово Господа Бога.	11 so that the house of Israel may no longer stray from me and may no longer be defiled by all their sins. Thus they shall be my people, and I will be their God, says the Lord GOD.
12 І надійшло до мене таке слово Господнє:	12 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:
13 «Сину чоловічий! Коли б якась країна згрішила проти мене, мені спроневірившись, і я простягнув би проти неї мою руку й понищив у ній запаси хліба та послав на неї голоднечу, і почав губити в ній людину й скотину;	13 Son of man, when a land sins against me by breaking faith, I stretch out my hand against it and break its staff of bread, I let famine loose upon it and cut off from it both man and beast;
14 і коли б у ній знайшлося оцих троє мужів: Ной, Даниїл та Іов, — то вони спасли б своєю справедливістю (лише) самих себе, — слово Господа Бога.	14 and even if these three men were in it, Noah, Daniel, and Job, they could save only themselves by their virtue, says the Lord GOD.
15 Або коли б я наслав дикого звіря на ту країну, так, що він її позбавив би всіх її дітей, і вона стала б пусткою, якою ніхто б не проходив з-за звірини,	15 If I were to cause wild beasts to prowl the land, depopulating it so that it became a waste, traversed by none because of the wild beasts,
16 то ці три мужі в ній — клянусь, як от живу я, — слово Господа Бога, — не врятували б ні своїх синів, ні своїх дочок; лише вони самі спаслися б, країна ж стала б пусткою.	16 and these three men were in it, as I live, says the Lord GOD, I swear they could save neither sons nor daughters; they alone would be saved, and the land would be a waste.
17 Або коли б я послав меч на країну й повелів: Перейди, мечу, країною! — і почав вигублювати в ній людину й скотину,	17 Or if I brought the sword upon this country, commanding the sword to pass through the land cutting off from it man and beast,
18 і якби ці три мужі були в ній — клянусь, як от живу я, — слово Господа Бога, — вони не врятували б ні своїх синів, ні своїх дочок; вони лише самі спаслися б.	18 and these three men were in it, as I live, says the Lord GOD, they would be unable to save either sons or daughters; they alone would be saved.
19 Або коли б я послав на ту країну чуму й вилив на неї моє обурення в крові, вигубивши в ній людину й скотину,	19 Or if I were to send pestilence into this land, pouring out upon it my bloodthirsty fury, cutting off from it man and beast,
20 і якби Ной, Даниїл та Іов були в ній — клянусь, як от живу я, — слово Господа Бога, — вони не врятували б ні своїх синів;, ні своїх дочок; вони врятували б своєю справедливістю лише самих себе.	20 even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, says the Lord GOD, I swear that they could save neither son nor daughter; they would save only themselves by their virtue.
21 Так говорить Господь Бог: Навіть як я пошлю мої чотири найстрашніші кари — меч, голод, лютого звіря й чуму — на Єрусалим, щоб вигубити в ньому людину й скотину,	21 Thus says the Lord GOD: Even though I send Jerusalem my four cruel punishments, the sword, famine, wild beasts, and pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast,
22 то все таки зостанеться у нім рештка, що спасеться, що виведе синів і дочок (із міста). Ось вони виходять до вас, щоб ви побачили їхні вчинки й їхні діяння та щоб утішились по тім нещасті, що я приніс на Єрусалим, і по всім тім, що я навів на нього.	22 still some survivors shall be left in it who will bring out sons and daughters; when they come out to you, you shall see their conduct and their actions and be consoled regarding the evil I have brought on Jerusalem (all that I have brought upon it).
23 Вони вас потішать, коли побачите їхні вчинки та їхні діяння, і взнаєте, що то не дармо я вчинив усе те, що вчинив у нім», — слово Господа Бога.	23 They shall console you when you see their conduct and actions, for you shall then know that it was not without reason that I did to it what I did, says the Lord GOD.
