Segunda Epístola a Timóteo 2

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Tu, portanto, meu filho, procura progredir na graça de Jesus Cristo.	1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.
2 O que de mim ouviste em presença de muitas testemunhas, confia-o a homens fiéis que, por sua vez, sejam capazes de instruir a outros.	2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.
3 Suporta comigo os trabalhos, como bom soldado de Jesus Cristo.	3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 Nenhum soldado pode implicar-se em negócios da vida civil, se quer agradar ao que o alistou.	4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;
5 Nenhum atleta será coroado, se não tiver lutado segundo as regras.	5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;
6 É preciso que o lavrador trabalhe antes com afinco, se quer boa colheita.	6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.
7 Entende bem o que eu quero dizer. O Senhor há de dar-te inteligência em tudo.	7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.
8 Lembra-te de Jesus Cristo, saído da estirpe de Davi e ressuscitado dos mortos, segundo o meu Evangelho,	8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';
9 pelo qual estou sofrendo até as cadeias como um malfeitor. Mas a palavra de Deus, esta não se deixa acorrentar.	9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.
10 Pelo que tudo suporto por amor dos escolhidos, para que também eles consigam a salvação em Jesus Cristo, com a glória eterna.	10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 Eis uma verdade absolutamente certa: Se morrermos com ele, com ele viveremos.	11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.
12 Se soubermos perseverar, com ele reinaremos.	12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.
13 Se, porém, o renegarmos, ele nos renegará. Se formos infiéis... ele continua fiel, e não pode desdizer-se.	13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.
14 Lembra-lhes estas coisas e conjura-os, por Deus, a evitarem discussões de palavras, que só servem para a perdição dos ouvintes.	14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.
15 Empenha-te em te apresentares diante de Deus como homem digno de aprovação, operário que não tem de que se envergonhar, íntegro distribuidor da palavra da verdade.	15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.
16 Procura esquivar-te das conversas frívolas dos mundanos, que só contribuem para a impiedade.	16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.
17 As palavras dessa gente destroem como a gangrena. Entre eles estão Himeneu e Fileto,	17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 que se desviaram da verdade dizendo que a ressurreição já aconteceu e transtornaram a fé em alguns.	18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.
19 Contudo, o sólido fundamento de Deus se mantém firme, porque vem selado com estas palavras: O Senhor conhece os que são seus {Nm 16,5}; e: Renuncie à iniqüidade todo aquele que pronuncia o nome do Senhor {Is 26,13}.	19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'
20 Numa grande casa não há somente utensílios de ouro e de prata, mas também de madeira e de barro. Aqueles para ocasiões finas, estes para uso ordinário.	20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.
21 Quem, portanto, se conservar puro e isento dessas doutrinas, será um utensílio nobre, santificado, útil ao seu possuidor, preparado para todo uso benéfico.	21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.
22 Foge das paixões da mocidade, busca com empenho a justiça, a fé, a caridade, a paz, com aqueles que invocam o Senhor com pureza de coração.	22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.
23 Rejeita as discussões tolas e absurdas, visto que geram contendas.	23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;
24 Não convém a um servo do Senhor altercar; bem ao contrário, seja ele condescendente com todos, capaz de ensinar, paciente em suportar os males.	24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.
25 É com brandura que deve corrigir os adversários, na esperança de que Deus lhes conceda o arrependimento e o conhecimento da verdade,	25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth
26 e voltem a si, uma vez livres dos laços do demônio, que os mantém cativos e submetidos aos seus caprichos.	26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.
