1 No primeiro dia do segundo mês, no segundo ano depois da saída do Egito, o Senhor disse a Moisés no deserto do Sinai, na tenda de reunião:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, in the desert of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the secondmonth, in the second year after the exodus from Egypt, and said:
2 "Fazei o recenseamento de toda a assembléia dos filhos de Israel segundo suas famílias, suas casas patriarcais, contando nominalmente por cabeça todos os varões da idade de vinte anos para cima,	2 'Take a census of the whole community of Israelites by clans and families, taking a count of the namesof al the males, head by head.
3 todos os israelitas aptos para o serviço das armas: fareis o recenseamento deles segundo os seus grupos, tu e Aarão.	3 You and Aaron wil register al those in Israel, twenty years of age and over, fit to bear arms, companyby company;
4 Assistir-vos-á um homem de cada tribo, um chefe da casa de seu pai.	4 you wil have one man from each tribe, the head of his family, to help you.
5 Eis os nomes daqueles que vos hão de acompanhar: de Rubem, Elisur, filho de Sedeur;	5 'These are the names of those who must help you: For Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur.

16 Tais são os que foram escolhidos da assembléia. Eram os príncipes de suas tribos patriarcais, chefes de milhares em Israel.	16 These were men of repute in the community; they were the leaders of their ancestral tribes, the headsof Israel's thousands.
17 Depois de se terem ajuntado esses homens designados pelos seus nomes, Moisés e Aarão	17 Moses and Aaron took these men who had been named
18 convocaram toda a assembléia no primeiro dia do segundo mês. Efetuaram o recenseamento por clãs e famílias, contando nome por nome as pessoas da idade de vinte anos para cima,	18 and on the first day of the second month they mustered the whole community. The Israelitesestablished their pedigrees by clans and families, and one by one the names of all men of twenty years and overwere recorded.
19 assim como o Senhor ordenara a Moisés. Fez-se, pois, o recenseamento no deserto do Sinai.	19 As Yahweh had ordered, Moses registered them in the desert of Sinai.
20 Dos filhos de Rubem, primogênito de Israel, seus descendentes segundo suas famílias e suas casas patriarcais, contando seus nomes por cabeça, todos os varões da idade de vinte anos para cima - todos os que eram aptos para o serviço das armas -,	20 Once the pedigrees of the descendants of Reuben, Israel's first-born, had been established by clansand families, the names of all the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.
21 foram recenseados 46.500 na tribo de Rubem.	21 The total of these for the tribe of Reuben was forty-six thousand five hundred.

44 Estes são os que foram recenseados por Moisés e Aarão com os príncipes de Israel, em número de doze, um homem de cada casa patriarcal.	44 Such were the men registered by Moses, Aaron and the leaders of Israel, of whom there were twelve,each representing his family.
45 Os israelitas recenseados por famílias, da idade de vinte anos para cima - todos os que eram aptos para o serviço das armas -,	45 Al the Israelites of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were counted by families.
46 somaram o total de 603.550.	46 Altogether, the total came to six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.
47 Quanto aos levitas, porém, não foram contados com os demais, segundo suas tribos patriarcais.	47 But the Levites and their tribes were not included in the count.
48 O Senhor havia dito, com efeito, a Moisés:	48 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
49 "Não farás o recenseamento da tribo de Levi, nem porás a soma deles com os filhos de Israel.	49 'Do not, however, take a census of the Levites, or register them with the other Israelites,
50 Confia-lhes o cuidado do tabernáculo do testemunho, de todos os seus utensílios e de tudo o que lhe pertence. Levarão o tabernáculo e todos os seus utensílios, farão o seu serviço e acamparão em volta do tabernáculo.	50 but enrol the Levites to take charge of the Dwel ing where the Testimony is and of al its furnishingsand belongings. They must carry the Dwel ing and al its furnishings; they must look after the Dwel ing and pitchtheir camp round it.
51 Quando se tiver de partir, os levitas desmontarão o tabernáculo e o levantarão quando se tiver de acampar. O estrangeiro que se aproximar dele será punido de morte.	51 Whenever the Dwelling is moved, the Levites will dismantle it; whenever the Dwel ing stops for thenight, the Levites wil erect it. Any unauthorised person coming near it will be put to death.
52 Os israelitas acamparão cada um em seu respectivo acampamento e cada um perto de sua bandeira, segundo suas turmas.	52 The Israelites wil pitch their tents, each in their own encampment and by their own standard,company by company,
53 Quanto aos levitas, porém, acamparão em torno do tabernáculo do testemunho, para que não suceda explodir a minha cólera contra a assembléia dos israelitas; ademais, os levitas terão a guarda do tabernáculo do testemunho".	53 but the Levites wil pitch their tents round the Dwel ing where the Testimony is. In this way Retributionwil be kept from fal ing on the whole community of Israelites, and the Levites wil keep charge of the Dwel ing ofthe Testimony.'
54 Os israelitas fizeram tudo o que o Senhor tinha ordenado a Moisés; assim o fizeram.	54 The Israelites did exactly as Yahweh had ordered Moses. They did as he said.
