SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Honra o médico por causa da necessidade, pois foi o Altíssimo quem o criou.	1 Treat the doctor with the honour that is his due, in consideration of his services; for he too has beencreated by the Lord.
2 (Toda a medicina provém de Deus), e ele recebe presentes do rei:	2 Healing itself comes from the Most High, like a gift received from a king.
3 a ciência do médico o eleva em honra; ele é admirado na presença dos grandes.	3 The doctor's learning keeps his head high, and the great regard him with awe.
4 O Senhor fez a terra produzir os medicamentos: o homem sensato não os despreza.	4 The Lord has brought forth medicinal herbs from the ground, and no one sensible wil despise them.
5 Uma espécie de madeira não adoçou o amargor da água? Essa virtude chegou ao conhecimento dos homens.	5 Did not a piece of wood once sweeten the water, thus giving proof of its power?
6 O Altíssimo deu-lhes a ciência da medicina para ser honrado em suas maravilhas;	6 He has also given some people knowledge, so that they may draw credit from his mighty works.
7 e dela se serve para acalmar as dores e curá-las; o farmacêutico faz misturas agradáveis, compõe ungüentos úteis à saúde, e seu trabalho não terminará,	7 He uses these for healing and relieving pain; the druggist makes up a mixture from them.
8 até que a paz divina se estenda sobre a face da terra.	8 Thus, there is no end to his activities; thanks to him, well-being exists throughout the world.
9 Meu filho, se estiveres doente não te descuides de ti, mas ora ao Senhor, que te curará.	9 My child, when you are il , do not rebel, but pray to the Lord and he wil heal you.
10 Afasta-te do pecado, reergue as mãos e purifica teu coração de todo o pecado.	10 Renounce your faults, keep your hands unsoiled, and cleanse your heart from al sin.
11 Oferece um incenso suave e uma lembrança de flor de farinha; faze a oblação de uma vítima gorda.	11 Offer incense and a memorial of fine flour, make as rich an offering as you can afford.
12 Em seguida dá lugar ao médico, pois ele foi criado por Deus; que ele não te deixe, pois sua arte te é necessária.	12 Then let the doctor take over -- the Lord created him too -- do not let him leave you, for you need him.
13 Virá um tempo em que cairás nas mãos deles.	13 There are times when good health depends on doctors.
14 E eles mesmos rogarão ao Senhor que mande por meio deles o alívio e a saúde (ao doente) segundo a finalidade de sua vida.	14 For they, in their turn, wil pray the Lord to grant them the grace to relieve and to heal, and so prolongyour life.
15 Aquele que peca na presença daquele que o fez, cairá nas mãos do médico.	15 Whoever sins in the eyes of his Maker, let such a one come under the care of the doctor!
16 Meu filho, derrama lágrimas sobre um morto, e chora como um homem que sofreu cruelmente. Sepulta o seu corpo segundo o costume, e não descuides de sua sepultura.	16 My child, shed tears over the dead, lament for the dead to show your sorrow, then bury the body withdue ceremony and do not fail to honour the grave.
17 Chora-o amargamente durante um dia, por causa da opinião pública, e depois consola-te de tua tristeza; 18. toma luto segundo o merecimento da pessoa, um dia ou dois, para evitar as más palavras.	17 Weep bitterly, beat your breast, observe the mourning the dead deserves for a day or two, to avoidcensorious comment, and then be comforted in your sorrow;
	18 for grief can lead to death, a grief-stricken heart loses al energy.
19 Pois a tristeza apressa a morte, tira o vigor, e o desgosto do coração faz inclinar a cabeça.	19 In affliction sorrow persists, a life of grief is hard to bear.
20 A tristeza permanece quando (o corpo) é levado; e a vida do pobre é o espelho de seu coração.	20 Do not abandon your heart to grief, drive it away, bear your own end in mind.
21 Não entregues teu coração à tristeza, mas afasta-a e lembra-te do teu fim.	21 Do not forget, there is no coming back; you cannot help the dead, and you will harm yourself.
22 Não te esqueças dele, porque não há retorno; de nada lhe servirás e só causarás dano a ti mesmo.	22 'Remember my doom, since it will be yours too; I yesterday, you today!'
23 Lembra-te da sentença que me foi dada: a tua será igual; ontem para mim, hoje para ti.	23 Once the dead are laid to rest, let their memory rest, do not fret for them, once their spirit departs.
24 Na paz em que o morto entrou, deixa repousar a sua memória, e conforta-o no momento em que exalar o último suspiro.	24 Leisure gives the scribe the chance to acquire wisdom; a man with few commitments can grow wise.
25 A sabedoria do escriba lhe vem no tempo do lazer. Aquele que pouco se agita adquirirá sabedoria.	25 How can the ploughman become wise, whose sole ambition is to wield the goad, driving his oxen,engrossed in their work, his conversation limited to bul ocks,
26 Que sabedoria poderia ter o homem que conduz a charrua, que faz ponto de honra aguilhoar os bois, que participa de seu labor, e só sabe falar das crias dos touros?	26 his thoughts absorbed in the furrows he traces and his long evenings spent in fattening heifers?
27 Ele põe todo o seu coração em traçar sulcos, e o seu cuidado é engordar novilhas.	27 Similarly with al workmen and craftsmen, toiling day and night; those who engrave seals, for evertrying to think of a new design, concentrating on catching a good likeness and staying up late to get the workdone.
28 Igualmente acontece com todo carpinteiro, todo arquiteto, que passa no trabalho os dias e as noites. Assim sucede àquele que grava as marcas dos sinetes, variando as figuras por um trabalho assíduo; que aplica todo o seu coração na imitação da pintura, e põe todo o cuidado no acabamento de seu trabalho.	28 Similarly with the blacksmith sitting by his anvil; he considers what to do with the pig-iron, the breath ofthe fire scorches his skin, as he contends with the heat of the furnace; the noise of the hammer deafens him, hiseyes are fixed on the pattern; he concentrates on getting the job done wel and stays up late to apply thefinishing touches.
29 Assim acontece com o ferreiro sentado perto da bigorna, examinando o ferro que vai moldar; o vapor do fogo queima as suas carnes, e ele resiste ao ardor da fornalha.	29 Similarly with the potter, sitting at his work, turning the wheel with his feet; constantly on the alert overhis work, each flick of the finger premeditated;
30 O barulho do martelo lhe fere o ouvido de golpes repetidos; seus olhos estão fixos no modelo do objeto.	30 he pummels the clay with his arm, and with his feet he kneads it; he concentrates on applying theglaze right and stays up late to clean the kiln.
31 Ele aplica o seu coração em aperfeiçoar a sua obra, e põe um cuidado vigilante em torná-la bela e perfeita.	31 Al these people rely on their hands and each is skilled at his own craft.
32 O mesmo sucede com o oleiro que, entregue à sua tarefa, gira a roda com os pés, sempre cuidadoso pela sua obra; e todo o seu trabalho (visa a produzir) uma quantidade (determinada).	32 A town could not be inhabited without them, there would be no settling, no travel ing.
33 Com o seu braço dá forma ao barro, torna-o maleável com os pés,	33 But you wil not find them in the parliament, they do not hold high rank in the assembly. They do not siton the judicial bench, and they do not meditate on the Law.
34 aplica o seu coração em aperfeiçoar o verniz, e limpa o forno com muita diligência.	34 They are not remarkable for their culture or judgement, nor are they found frequenting thephilosophers. They sustain the structure of the world, and their prayer is concerned with their trade.
35 Todos esses artistas esperam (tudo) de suas mãos; cada um deles é sábio em sua profissão.
36 Sem eles nenhuma cidade seria construída,
37 nem habitada, nem freqüentada; mas eles mesmos não terão parte na assembléia,
38 não se sentarão nas cadeiras dos juízes, não entenderão as disposições judiciárias, não apregoarão nem a instrução nem o direito, nem serão encontrados a estudar as máximas.
