5 El que junta en verano es un hombre precavido, el que duerme en la cosecha es despreciable. | 5 Reaping at harvest-time is the mark of the prudent, sleeping at harvest-time is the sign of theworthless. |
6 Las bendiciones descienden sobre el justo, la boca de los malvados encubre la violencia. | 6 Blessings are on the head of the upright, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence. |
7 La memoria del justo es bendecida, pero el nombre de los malvados se pudrirá. | 7 The upright is remembered with blessings, the name of the wicked rots away. |
8 El de corazón sabio acepta los mandamientos, pero el de labios necios va a la perdición. | 8 The wise of heart takes orders, but a gabbling fool heads for ruin. |
9 El que camina con integridad camina seguro, el que sigue caminos tortuosos será descubierto. | 9 Anyone whose ways are honourable walks secure, but whoever fol ows crooked ways is soonunmasked. |
10 El que guiña el ojo hace sufrir, el que reprende con franqueza da tranquilidad. | 10 A wink of the eye brings trouble, a bold rebuke brings peace. |
11 La boca del justo es una fuente de vida, pero la de los malvados encubre la violencia. | 11 The mouth of the upright is a life-giving fountain, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence. |
12 El odio provoca altercados, pero el amor cubre todas las faltas. | 12 Hatred provokes disputes, but love excuses al offences. |
13 En labios del inteligente se encuentra la sabiduría, y la vara es para las espaldas del insensato. | 13 On the lips of the discerning is found wisdom, on the back of a fool, the stick. |
14 Los sabios atesoran la ciencia, pero la boca del necio es una ruina inminente. | 14 Wise people store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool makes ruin imminent. |
15 La fortuna del rico es su plaza fuerte, la pobreza de los débiles es su ruina. | 15 The wealth of the rich is their stronghold, poverty is the undoing of the weak. |
16 El salario del justo lleva a la vida, la renta del impío, al pecado. | 16 The wage of the upright affords life, but sin is al the wicked earns. |
17 El que respeta la instrucción camina hacia la vida, pero el que rechaza la reprensión se extravía. | 17 Whoever abides by discipline, walks towards life, whoever ignores correction goes astray. |
18 El que disimula su odio tiene labios mentirosos, y el que levanta una calumnia es un necio. | 18 Liars' lips are a cover for hatred, whoever utters slander is a fool. |
19 Donde abundan las palabras nunca falta el pecado, el que refrena sus labios es un hombre precavido. | 19 A flood of words is never without fault; whoever controls the lips is wise. |
20 Plata acrisolada es la lengua del justo, el corazón de los malvados no vale gran cosa. | 20 The tongue of the upright is purest silver, the heart of the wicked is of trumpery value. |
21 Los labios del justo sustentan a muchos, pero los necios mueren por falta de sensatez. | 21 The lips of the upright nourish many peoples, but fools die for want of sense. |
22 La bendición del Señor es la que enriquece, y nada le añade nuestro esfuerzo. | 22 The blessing of Yahweh is what brings riches, to this, hard toil has nothing to add. |
23 Cometer una infamia es una diversión para el insensato, y lo mismo es la sabiduría para el hombre inteligente. | 23 A fool takes pleasure in doing wrong, the intel igent in cultivating wisdom. |
24 Al malvado le sucederá lo que teme, y a los justos se les dará lo que desean. | 24 What the wicked fears overtakes him, what the upright desires comes to him as a present. |
25 Pasa la tormenta, y ya no existe el malvado, pero el justo tiene cimientos eternos. | 25 When the storm is over, the wicked is no more, but the upright stands firm for ever. |
26 Como vinagre para los dientes y humo para los ojos, así es el perezoso para el que le da un encargo. | 26 As vinegar to the teeth, smoke to the eyes, so the sluggard to the one who sends him. |
27 El temor del Señor acrecienta los días, pero los años de los malvados serán acortados. | 27 The fear of Yahweh adds length to life, the years of the wicked wil be cut short. |
28 La esperanza de los justos es alegre, pero la expectativa de los malvados se desvanecerá. | 28 The hope of the upright is joy, the expectations of the wicked come to nothing. |
29 El camino del Señor es refugio para el hombre íntegro y ruina para los que hacen el mal. | 29 The way of Yahweh is a rampart for the honest, for evil-doers nothing but ruin. |
30 El justo no vacilará jamás, pero los malvados no habitarán la tierra. | 30 The upright wil never have to give way, but the land wil offer no home for the wicked. |
31 De la boca del justo brota la sabiduría, pero la lengua perversa será extirpada. | 31 The mouth of the upright utters wisdom, the tongue that deceives wil be cut off. |
32 Los labios del justo destilan benevolencia, y la boca de los malvados, perversidad. | 32 The lips of the upright know about kindness, the mouth of the wicked about deceit. |
