1 Mieux vaut le pauvre qui vit honnêtement, que l’insensé qui a su se débrouiller.	1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
2 Même l’enthousiasme ne vaut rien s’il n’y a pas réflexion; qui se précipite perd son chemin.	2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
3 On se ruine par sa propre bêtise, et puis c’est à Yahvé qu’on s’en prend!	3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.
4 La fortune attire de nombreux amis, tandis qu’en devenant pauvre on perd les siens.	4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
5 Le faux témoin ne restera pas impuni, celui qui ment quand il témoigne n’échappera pas.	5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
6 Un notable a beaucoup de flatteurs, tous sont amis de celui qui arrose.	6 Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
7 Le pauvre est rejeté de tous ses frères, ses amis ont été les premiers à s’éloigner. Avec qui parler? Ils ne se présentent pas.	7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
8 Qui acquiert du bon sens se fait du bien à lui-même; qui agit avec intelligence trouvera le bonheur.	8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
9 Le faux témoin ne restera pas impuni, celui qui ment quand il témoigne périra.	9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
10 Il ne convient pas qu’un sot vive dans le luxe, et moins encore qu’un esclave commande à des princes.	10 Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11 Un homme intelligent surmonte sa colère; en méprisant l’offense il se grandit.	11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12 La fureur du roi est comme le rugissement du lion, sa bienveillance est comme la rosée sur l’herbe.	12 The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
13 Un fils stupide fait le malheur de son père; les criailleries d’une femme n’ont pas plus de fin qu’une fuite d’eau.	13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14 On hérite de son père une maison et des biens, mais c’est Yahvé qui donne une épouse de bon sens.	14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers and a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15 La paresse amène la torpeur; le nonchalant connaîtra la faim.	15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16 Qui garde le commandement se garde lui-même; qui méprise la parole mourra.	16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
17 Qui a pitié du pauvre prête à Yahvé: il saura payer sa dette.	17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
18 Corrige ton fils tant qu’il y a espoir: sinon, tu serais responsable de sa mort.	18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
19 Celui qui s’est emporté doit payer; si on l’en exempte, il recommencera.	19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
20 Écoute les conseils, reçois l’enseignement: à la fin tu seras un sage.	20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
21 L’homme soupèse les nombreuses possibilités, mais c’est le dessein de Yahvé qui se réalisera.	21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
22 C’est la bonté d’un homme qui le fait aimer, on préfère un pauvre à un arrogant.	22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
23 La crainte de Yahvé te fera vivre: tu dormiras tranquille, à l’abri du malheur.	23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
24 Quand le paresseux tend la main vers le plat, il ne la ramène pas à la bouche.	24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25 Punis le moqueur, et le naïf fera attention; fais une remarque à l’homme sensé et il comprendra.	25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
26 Qui dépouille son père et chasse sa mère est un fils infâme et dénaturé.	26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
27 Quand le fils n’écoute plus ceux qui le reprennent, il ne peut que ruminer des pensées mauvaises.	27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
28 Un témoin pervers se moque de la justice; la bouche des méchants se complaît dans l’injustice.	28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
29 Le fouet est pour ceux qui se moquent, le bâton a été fait pour le dos des sots.	29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
