1 Dirizzò l'opere loro in mano del santo profeta.	1 She made their affairs prosper through the holy prophet.
2 (Moisè con li Israeliti) feciono il cammino per li deserti che non si abitavano; e feciono li tabernacoli nelli luoghi deserti.	2 They journeyed through the uninhabited desert, and in solitudes they pitched their tents;
3 Stettono contro alli avversarii, e vendicaronsi delli nimici (e conobbero le tue maraviglie).	3 they withstood enemies and took vengeance on their foes.
4 Ebbeno sete, e invocarono te, e fue data loro l'acqua della altissima pietra; e riposo della sete fue dato loro del duro sasso.	4 When they thirsted, they called upon you, and water was given them from the sheer rock, assuagement for their thirst from the hard stone.
5 E per quelle pene che patirono li loro nimici del difetto del bere, abbondando in loro le acque, li figliuoli d' Israel s' allegrarono.	5 For by the things through which their foes were punished they in their need were benefited.
6 Per queste cose, conciosia che a coloro mancassono (l'acque), successe bene alli figliuoli d' Israel.	6 Instead of a spring, when the perennial river was troubled with impure blood
7 Alli ingiusti tu dèsti, in luogo di fontana di sempiterno fiume, il sangue umano.	7 as a rebuke to the decree for the slaying of infants, You gave them abundant water in an unhoped-for way,
8 Li quali, essendo minuiti per la traduzione delli fanciulli uccisi (per Faraone in Egitto, in recompensazione) dèsti loro acqua abbondante non sperata,	8 once you had shown by the thirst they then had how you punished their adversaries.
9 mostrando per la sete che venne loro, tu esaltavi li tuoi, e annegavi li avversarii.	9 For when they had been tried, though only mildly chastised, they recognized how the wicked, condemned in anger, were being tormented.
10 Quando furono tentati, certo con misericordia ricevettono ammaestramento, e seppono come li malvagi, giudicati con ira, sostennono tormenti.	10 the latter you tested, admonishing them as a father; the former as a stern king you probed and condemned.
11 Tu provasti costoro, ammonendoli come padre; ma coloro, sì come duro re esaminandoli, li condannasti.	11 Both those afar off and those close by were afflicted:
12 Li assenti e li presenti somigliantemente erano tormentati.	12 For a twofold grief took hold of them and a groaning at the remembrance of the ones who had departed.
13 Doppio rincrescimento teneva coloro, il presente pianto con la memoria delli passati mali.	13 For when they heard that the cause of their own torments was a benefit to these others, they recognized the Lord.
14 Conciò fusse cosa che udissono che per le sue pene loro erano bene trattati, ricordaronsi di Dio, maravigliandosi nella fine dello uscimento.	14 Him who of old had been cast out in exposure they indeed mockingly rejected; but in the end of events, they marveled at him, since their thirst proved unlike that of the just.
15 E maravigliaronsi di colui, nella fine di quello che avvenne, lo quale (abbassarono e atterrarono) egli avevano ischeruito con malvagia imposta, non facendo così alli giusti.	15 And in return for their senseless, wicked thoughts, which misled them into worshiping dumb serpents and worthless insects, You sent upon them swarms of dumb creatures for vengeance;
16 Ma per li insensati pensieri furono le loro iniquitadi, e alcuni erranti adorarono molti serpenti e superchie bestie; mandasti sopra loro moltitudine di molti animali in vendetta,	16 that they might recognize that a man is punished by the very things through which he sins.
17 acciò che loro sapessono che per quelle cose per le quali alcuno peccoe, e per quelle è tormentato.	17 For not without means was your almighty hand, that had fashioned the universe from formless matter, to send upon them a drove of bears or fierce lions,
18 Non era impossibile alla onnipotente mano tua, la quale creò il mondo di materia invisa, mandare a coloro moltitudine d'orsi, o arditi leoni,	18 Or new-created, wrathful, unknown beasts to breathe forth fiery breath, Or pour out roaring smoke, or flash terrible sparks from their eyes.
19 o bestie di nuova generazione piene d' ira, e bestie incognite, ovvero che gittassono fiamma di fuoco, o portanti fumo di puzza, o che gittassono faville orribili per li occhi;	19 Not only could these attack and completely destroy them; even their frightful appearance itself could slay.
20 delle quali la percossa (di queste) non solamente li potea dilacerare, ma ancora (col) la pagura dello aspetto li potea uccidere.	20 Even without these, they could have been killed at a single blast, pursued by retribution and winnowed out by your mighty spirit; But you have disposed all things by measure and number and weight.
21 Però che, eziandio sanza queste cose, da uno spirito di vento poteano essere morti, ricevendo persecuzione delli loro fatti stessi, e dispersi per lo spirito della tua potenza; ma tu ordinasti tutte le cose in misura e in numero e in peso.	21 For with you great strength abides always; who can resist the might of your arm?
22 Molta potenza a te solo era dirittamente sempre; e chi resisterae alla virtude del braccio tuo?	22 Indeed, before you the whole universe is as a grain from a balance, or a drop of morning dew come down upon the earth.
23 Però che sì come uno punto di stadera, così è dinanzi da te il cerchio delle terre, e sì come la gocciola della rugiada mattutinale, la quale discende in terra.	23 But you have mercy on all, because you can do all things; and you overlook the sins of men that they may repent.
24 E tu hai misericordia di tutti, però che tu puoi tutto, e non riguardi li peccati degli uomini li quali si sono pentiti.	24 For you love all things that are and loathe nothing that you have made; for what you hated, you would not have fashioned.
25 Tu ami tutte le cose che tu facesti; nè hai in odio le cose che tu ordinasti e facesti.	25 And how could a thing remain, unless you willed it; or be preserved, had it not been called forth by you?
26 Or come potrebbe [una cosa] durare, quando tu non volessi? or quello che non fosse da te chiamato, come si conserverebbe?	26 But you spare all things, because they are yours, O LORD and lover of souls,
27 Tu (Signore) perdoni a tutti; però che sono tuoi, Signore, il quale ami le anime.
