| 1 Favellò lo Signore a Moisè, dicendo: | 1 Then the LORD said to Moses, |
| 2 Favella a' figliuoli d'Israel, e di' a loro, che tornati ch' elli sieno, s'accastellino (e s'accampino) nella regione Fiairot, la quale è intra Magdalo e lo mare d'Egitto dinanzi a Beelsefon; nel cospetto suo (cioè li campi e) li castelli ponete sopra il mare. | 2 "Tell the people of Israel to turn back and encamp in front of Pi-ha-hiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Baal-zephon; you shall encamp over against it, by the sea. |
| 3 Sarà detto da Faraone sopra i figliuoli d'Israel: costretti sono nella terra, e rinchiuso è a loro lo deserto. | 3 For Pharaoh will say of the people of Israel, 'They are entangled in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.' |
| 4 E indurato è lo cuore suo a Faraone; e per seguiterà voi; e glorificherommi in Faraone e in tutto lo esercito suo; e sapranno quelli d'Egitto, ch' io sono lo Signore. E fecero così. | 4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host; and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD." And they did so. |
| 5 Ed annunciato è a Faraone re d'Egitto, come era fuggito lo popolo d'Israel; e immutato è lo cuore di Faraone e delli servi suoi sopra lo popolo, e dissero: che avemmo voluto fare a lasciar Israel, acciò che non serva a noi? | 5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, the mind of Pharaoh and his servants was changed toward the people, and they said, "What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?" |
| 6 Aggiunse adunque lo carro, e tutto lo popolo suo tolse seco. | 6 So he made ready his chariot and took his army with him, |
| 7 E tolse seicento carri eletti, e qualunque cosa in Egitto di carri fue, e li duchi di tutto l'esercito suo. | 7 and took six hundred picked chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them. |
| 8 E indurò lo Signore lo core di Faraone re dello Egitto, e perseguitò li figliuoli d'Israel; ma quelli erano venuti nella mano (forte, cioè) eccelsa di Dio. | 8 And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt and he pursued the people of Israel as they went forth defiantly. |
| 9 E quando perseguitavano li Egizii le vestigie di quelli che precedevano, trovorli sopra il mare. Tutti li cavalli e li carri di Faraone e tutto lo esercito erano in Fiairot contra Beelsefon. | 9 The Egyptians pursued them, all Pharaoh's horses and chariots and his horsemen and his army, and overtook them encamped at the sea, by Pi-ha-hiroth, in front of Baal-zephon. |
| 10 E conciosia cosa che si appressasse Faraone, levati li figliuoli d'Israel gli occhi loro, viddero quelli d'Egitto dietro a loro; e temettero molto, e chiamarono allo Signore. | 10 When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were in great fear. And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD; |
| 11 E dissero a Moisè: forse che non erano li sepolcri in Egitto, e perciò hai menati noi, acciò che noi moriamo nella solitudine? perchè volesti fare questa cosa, cioè che tu menassi noi d'Egitto? | 11 and they said to Moses, "Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us, in bringing us out of Egypt? |
| 12 Non è questa parola, che noi favellammo a te in Egitto, dicendo: partiti da noi, acciò che noi serviamo a quelli d'Egitto? Certo molto meglio è a servire a loro, che morire nella solitudine. | 12 Is not this what we said to you in Egypt, 'Let us alone and let us serve the Egyptians? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness." |
| 13 E disse Moisè al popolo: non temete, istate e vedete le grandi cose del Signore, ch' egli dee fare oggi. In verità quelli d'Egitto, li quali voi ora vedete, non mai più li vederete in sempiterno. | 13 And Moses said to the people, "Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today; for the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. |
| 14 Lo Signore combatterà per voi, e voi tacerete. | 14 The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be still." |
| 15 E disse Iddio a Moisè: perchè chiami me? Favella alli figliuoli d'Israel, che vadino innanzi. | 15 The LORD said to Moses, "Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward. |
| 16 Ma tu leva la verga tua, ed istendi la mano tua sopra il mare, e dividi quello, acciò che passino li figliuoli d'Israel per secco nel mezzo del mare. | 16 Lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go on dry ground through the sea. |
| 17 Ma indurerò lo cuore di Faraone, e lo cuore di quelli d'Egitto; che loro perseguiteranno voi, e glorificherommi in Faraone, ed in tutto lo esercito suo, e nelli carri e cavalli suoi. | 17 And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they shall go in after them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, his chariots, and his horsemen. |
| 18 E sapranno quelli d'Egitto, siccome io sono lo Signore Iddio, quando io sarò glorificato in Faraone e nelli carri suoi e nelli cavalli suoi. | 18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten glory over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen." |
| 19 E togliendosi (cioè celandosi) l'angelo di Dio, il quale andava innanzi alli (castelli, cioè alli) campi d'Israel, andò dopo loro, e con lui pari mente la colonna del nuvolo, lasciando di andare innanzi, | 19 Then the angel of God who went before the host of Israel moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them and stood behind them, |
| 20 stette dopo loro, tra la gente di quelli di Egitto e la gente d'Israel; ed era la nuvola tenebrosa (a quelli d'Egitto) e alluminante di notte (al popolo d'Israel); sicchè a sè medesimi, tutto lo tempo della notte, andare non potessero (quelli d'Egitto). | 20 coming between the host of Egypt and the host of Israel. And there was the cloud and the darkness; and the night passed without one coming near the other all night. |
| 21 E quando istese Moisè la mano sua sopra lo mare, tolse quello lo Signore, soffiando lo vento grandemente tutta quella notte; e lo mare tornoe in secco, e divise sono le acque. | 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. |
| 22 Ed entrarono i figliuoli d'Israel per mezzo del secco del mare; ed era l'acqua quasi muro dal lato diritto loro e dal sinistro. | 22 And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. |
| 23 E perseguenti quelli d'Egitto, entrarono dopo loro, ogni cavalleria di Faraone, e li carri suoi e li cavalli suoi, per lo mezzo del mare. | 23 The Egyptians pursued, and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. |
| 24 E già era venuta l'ora mattutina; ed ecco ragguardante lo Signore sopra la gente di quelli di Egitto per la colonna del fuoco e della nuvola, uccise lo esercito loro. | 24 And in the morning watch the LORD in the pillar of fire and of cloud looked down upon the host of the Egyptians, and discomfited the host of the Egyptians, |
| 25 E sovverti le ruote delli carri, ed erano portate nel profondo di sotto. Adunque disseno quelli d'Egitto: fuggiamo (però che è Israel); chè in verità lo Signore combatte per loro contra noi. | 25 clogging their chariot wheels so that they drove heavily; and the Egyptians said, "Let us flee from before Israel; for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians." |
| 26 E disse lo Signore a Moisè: istendi la mano tua sopra lo mare, e ritornino l'acque a quelli di Egitto sopra li carri e cavalli loro. | 26 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the water may come back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen." |
| 27 E quando istese Moisè la mano sopra il mare, ritornato è come era prima, nel far del dì, al primo luogo; fuggenti quelli d'Egitto, sopraccorsero l'onde dell' acqua, ed avvolse loro il Signore nel mezzo del mare. | 27 So Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its wonted flow when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled into it, and the LORD routed the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. |
| 28 E ritornate sono l'acque, e coprirono li carri e li cavalli e tutto lo esercito di Faraone, li quali seguitanti entrarono nel mare; e certo niuno ne scampo di loro. | 28 The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen and all the host of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea; not so much as one of them remained. |
| 29 Ma li figliuoli d'Israel passarono per lo secco mare; e l'acque erano a loro quasi per muro, dal lato ritto dal manco. | 29 But the people of Israel walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. |
| 30 E liberò lo Signore quelli d'Israel della mano di quelli d'Egitto. | 30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians; and Israel saw the Egyptians dead upon the seashore. |
| 31 E videro quelli d'Egitto morti sopra l'arena del mare, e la mano (potente di Dio) grande, la quale avea adoperato lo Signore contra loro. E te mette il popolo lo Signore; e credettero al Signore e a Moisè suo servo. | 31 And Israel saw the great work which the LORD did against the Egyptians, and the people feared the LORD; and they believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses. |
