1 Giunto il giorno della Pentecoste stavano tutti insieme nel medesimo luogo,	1 When Pentecost day came round, they had al met together,
2 e all'improvviso venne dal cielo un rumore come di vento impetuoso e riempì tutta la casa dove si trovavano.	2 when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which fil ed the entire house inwhich they were sitting;
3 Ed apparvero ad essi, distinte, delle lingue come di fuoco, e se ne posò una su ciascuno di loro:	3 and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each ofthem.
4 e furono tutti ripieni di Spirito Santo e cominciarono a parlare vari linguaggi secondo che lo Spirito Santo dava loro di esprimersi.	4 They were al fil ed with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave thempower to express themselves.
5 Or, fra gli ebrei residenti a Gerusalemme, c'eran persone pie d'ogni nazione sotto il cielo.	5 Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven,
6 Essendo venuto quel rumore, concorso la moltitudine, e rimase sba­lordita, sentendoli ciascuno parlare nella sua propria lingua.	6 and at this sound they al assembled, and each one was bewildered to hear these men speaking hisown language.
7 E ne stupivan tutti e ne facevan le maraviglie, dicendo: Ecco, questi che parlano non sono tutti Galilei?	7 They were amazed and astonished. 'Surely,' they said, 'al these men speaking are Galileans?
8 Come va che ognuno di noi li udiamo parlare nel nostro linguaggio natio?	8 How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language?
9 Parti, Medi ed Elamiti, abitanti della Mesopotamia e della Giudea, della Cappadocia, del Ponto e dell'Asia,	9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; people from Mesopotamia, Judaea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10 della Frigia, della Panfilia, dell'Egitto e dei paesi della Libia che è intorno a Cirene, e avventizi Romani,	10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya round Cyrene; residents of Rome-
11 intanto i Giudei che i proseliti, Cretesi ed Arabi, li abbiamo uditi parlare nelle nostre lingue delle grandezze di Dio.	11 Jews and proselytes alike -- Cretans and Arabs, we hear them preaching in our own language aboutthe marvels of God.'
12 E tutti ne stupivan ed eran pieni di maraviglia, dicendo: Che vuol essere questo?	12 Everyone was amazed and perplexed; they asked one another what it all meant.
13 Altri poi, facendosene beffe, dicevano: Ei son pieni di vin dolce.	13 Some, however, laughed it off. 'They have been drinking too much new wine,' they said.
14 Ma Pietro, levatosi su con gli altri undici, alzò la voce e disse loro: Uomini di Giudea, e voi tutti che abitate in Gerusalemme, siavi noto questo, e date ascolto alle mie parole.	14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and addressed them in a loud voice: 'Men of Judaea, and al youwho live in Jerusalem, make no mistake about this, but listen careful y to what I say.
15 Costoro certo non sono briachi, come voi pensate, non essendo che la terza ora del giorno.	15 These men are not drunk, as you imagine; why, it is only the third hour of the day.
16 Avviene invece quello che fu detto dal profeta Gioele:	16 On the contrary, this is what the prophet was saying:
17 E avverrà negli ultimi giorni (dice il Signore) che io diffonderò il mio Spirito sopra tutti gli uomini, e i vostri figli e le vostre figlie profeteranno, i vostri giovani avranno delle visioni ed i vostri vecchi dei sogni.	17 In the last days -- the Lord declares -- I shal pour out my Spirit on al humanity. Your sons anddaughters shal prophesy, your young people shal see visions, your old people dream dreams.
18 E sopra i miei servi e sopra le mie serve diffonderò il mio Spirito, in quei giorni, e profeteranno.	18 Even on the slaves, men and women, shall I pour out my Spirit.
19 E farò prodigi su in cielo e segni giù in terra, sangue e fuoco e vortici di fumo.	19 I will show portents in the sky above and signs on the earth below.
20 Il sole si cangerà in tenebre e la luna in sangue, prima che venga il giorno grande e glorioso del Signore.	20 The sun wil be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the day of the Lord comes, thatgreat and terrible Day.
21 Allora chiunque avrà invocato il nome del Signore sarà salvo.	21 And al who cal on the name of the Lord will be saved.
22 Israeliti, ascoltate queste parole: Gesù Nazzareno, uomo approvato da Dio tra voi, con opere potenti e prodigi e segni, che Dio fece per lui in mezzo a voi, come voi stessi sapete,	22 'Men of Israel, listen to what I am going to say: Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you byGod by the miracles and portents and signs that God worked through him when he was among you, as youknow.
23 essendo stato per determinato consiglio e prescienza divina dato nelle vostre mani voi l'avete fatto morire crocifìggendolo per mano di empi;	23 This man, who was put into your power by the deliberate intention and foreknowledge of God, you tookand had crucified and kil ed by men outside the Law.
24 ma Dio l'ha risuscitato infranti i legami dolorosi della morte, essendo impossibile che ne fosse ritenuto,	24 But God raised him to life, freeing him from the pangs of Hades; for it was impossible for him to be heldin its power since,
25 infatti David dice di lui: Ho avuto presente il Signore sempre nel mio cospetto essendo egli alla mia destra affinchè io non tremi.	25 as David says of him: I kept the Lord before my sight always, for with him at my right hand nothing canshake me.
26 Per questo si è rallegrato il mio cuore e la mia lingua ha giubilato ed anche il mio corpo riposerà nella speranza;	26 So my heart rejoiced my tongue delighted; my body, too, wil rest secure,
27 perchè tu non lascerai l'anima mia nell'inferno e non permetterai che il tuo Santo vegga la corruzione.	27 for you will not abandon me to Hades or al ow your holy one to see corruption.
28 M'hai rese note le vie della vita e mi ricolmerai di gloria colla tua presenza.	28 You have taught me the way of life, you wil fil me with joy in your presence.
29 Fratelli, sia lecito di dirvi liberamente del patriarca David che morì e fu sepolto e la sua tomba è anche al presente presso di noi;	29 'Brothers, no one can deny that the patriarch David himself is dead and buried: his tomb is stil with us.
30 ma essendo egli profeta o sapendo che Dio gli aveva promesso con giuramento di far sedere uno della sua stirpe sul suo trono,	30 But since he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn him an oath to make one of hisdescendants succeed him on the throne,
31 profetando della risurrezione di Cristo, disse che egli non sarebbe stato lasciato nella morte e che la sua carne non avrebbe visto la corruzione.	31 he spoke with foreknowledge about the resurrection of the Christ: he is the one who was notabandoned to Hades, and whose body did not see corruption.
32 Questo Gesù, Dio l'ha risuscitato e noi tutti ne siamo testimoni.	32 God raised this man Jesus to life, and of that we are al witnesses.
33 Esaltato egli dunque alla destra di Dio, e ricevuta dal Padre promessa dello Spirito Santo, l'ha diffuso, come voi vedete e udite.	33 Now raised to the heights by God's right hand, he has received from the Father the Holy Spirit, whowas promised, and what you see and hear is the outpouring of that Spirit.
34 Certamente David non salì al cielo; eppure egli disse: Ha detto il Signore al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra,	34 For David himself never went up to heaven, but yet he said: The Lord declared to my Lord, take yourseat at my right hand,
35 sinchè non abbia posto i tuoi nemici a sgabello dei tuoi piedi.	35 till I have made your enemies your footstool.
36 Sappia dunque sicuramente tutta la casa d'Israele che Dio ha costituito Signore e Cristo questo Gesù che voi avete crocifisso.	36 'For this reason the whole House of Israel can be certain that the Lord and Christ whom God has madeis this Jesus whom you crucified.'
37 Udite queste parole, si compunsero di cuore e dissero a Pietro e agli altri Apostoli: Che dobbiamo fare, fratelli?	37 Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, 'What are we to do,brothers?'
38 E Pietro disse loro: Fate penitenza, e ciascuno di voi si faccia battezzare nel nome di Gesù Cristo in remissione dei vostri peccati e riceverete il dono dello Spirito Santo.	38 'You must repent,' Peter answered, 'and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christfor the forgiveness of your sins, and you wil receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 Perchè la promessa è per voi e per i vostri figlioli, e per tutti i lontani, quanti ne chiamerà il Signore Iddio nostro.	39 The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for al those who are far away, for althose whom the Lord our God is cal ing to himself.'
40 E con altre moltissime parole li scongiurava e li esortava dicendo: Salvatevi da questa generazione perversa.	40 He spoke to them for a long time using many other arguments, and he urged them, 'Save yourselvesfrom this perverse generation.'
41 Quelli adunque che accolsero la sua parola furono battezzati; e si aggiunsero in quel giorno circa tremila anime.	41 They accepted what he said and were baptised. That very day about three thousand were added totheir number.
42 Ed erano assidui all'istruzione degli Apostoli, nell'unione, nella frazione del pane e nelle preghiere.	42 These remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of breadand to the prayers.
43 E tutta la gente era in apprensione, e molti prodigi e segni si facevano dagli Apostoli in Gerusalemme, e tutti stavano in gran timore.	43 And everyone was fil ed with awe; the apostles worked many signs and miracles.
44 E tutti i credenti stavano insieme ed avevano tutto in comune.	44 And al who shared the faith owned everything in common;
45 Vendevano le possessioni ed i beni e ne distribuivano il ricavato a tutti, secondo il bisogno di ciascuno.	45 they sold their goods and possessions and distributed the proceeds among themselves according towhat each one needed.
46 Ed ogni giorno di comune accordo erano assidui al tempio, e spezzando il pane nelle case, prendevano cibo con gioia e semplicità di cuore,	46 Each day, with one heart, they regularly went to the Temple but met in their houses for the breaking ofbread; they shared their food gladly and generously;
47 lodando Dio, ben veduti da tutto il popolo. Il Signore poi aggiungeva a questi quelli che dovevano essere salvi.	47 they praised God and were looked up to by everyone. Day by day the Lord added to their communitythose destined to be saved.
