BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Onora il medico a causa della necessità, perchè l'ha creato l'Altissimo.	1 Hold the physician in honor, for he is essential to you, and God it was who established his profession.
2 Infatti ogni medicina vien da Dio e riceverà dei doni dal re.	2 From God the doctor has his wisdom, and the king provides for his sustenance.
3 Per la sua scienza il medico porterà alta la testa e sarà celebrato dinanzi ai grandi.	3 His knowledge makes the doctor distinguished, and gives him access to those in authority.
4 L'Altissimo ha fatto uscire dalla terra i medicamenti, e l'uomo prudente non li sdegna.	4 God makes the earth yield healing herbs which the prudent man should not neglect;
5 E non fu resa dolce da un legno l'acqua amara?	5 Was not the water sweetened by a twig that men might learn his power?
6 Venni e a conoscenza dell'uomo la loro virtù, e l'Altissimo diede agli uomini la scienza per essere onorato nelle sue maraviglie.	6 He endows men with the knowledge to glory in his mighty works,
7 Per esse il medico mitiga il dolore, e lo speziale fa i suoi profumi soavi e compone unguenti salutari; e non sono (ancora) terminati i loro lavori,	7 Through which the doctor eases pain and the druggist prepares his medicines;
8 che la pace di Dio sarà sopra la faccia della terra.	8 Thus God's creative work continues without cease in its efficacy on the surface of the earth.
9 Figlio, nella tua malattia non disprezzare te stesso, ma prega il Signore, ed Egli ti guarirà.	9 My son, when you are ill, delay not, but pray to God, who will heal you:
10 Allontanati dal peccato, regola le tue azioni e purifica il tuo cuore da ogni colpa.	10 Flee wickedness; let your hands be just, cleanse your heart of every sin;
11 Offri odor soave e il memoriale di fior di farina, impingua l'oblazione, e poi dà luogo al medico,	11 Offer your sweet-smelling oblation and petition, a rich offering according to your means.
12 perchè il Signore l'ha creato. Non si allon tani da te, perchè c'è bisogno dell'opera sua.	12 Then give the doctor his place lest he leave; for you need him too.
13 Verrà il tempo in cui dovrai cadere nelle loro mani,	13 There are times that give him an advantage,
14 ed essi pregheranno il Signore a rendere efficaci i loro lenitivi per la sanità alla quale è diretta la loro professione.	14 and he too beseeches God That his diagnosis may be correct and his treatment bring about a cure.
15 Chi pecca davanti a colui che lo creò cadrà nelle mani del medico.	15 He who is a sinner toward his Maker will be defiant toward the doctor.
16 Figliolo, spargi lacrime sopra il morto, e, come per crudele strazio, comincia i lamenti, e, secondo il dovere, copri il suo corpo e non trascurarne la sepoltura.	16 My son, shed tears for one who is dead with wailing and bitter lament; As is only proper, prepare the body, absent not yourself from his burial:
17 Per evitar mormorazioni fai amaro lutto per lui durante un giorno, ma poi datti pace, per fuggir la tristezza.	17 Weeping bitterly, mourning fully, pay your tribute of sorrow, as he deserves,
18 E fa il lutto secondo il merito della persona: un giorno o due per evitar le maldicenze.	18 One or two days, to prevent gossip; then compose yourself after your grief,
19 Perchè la tristezza affretta la morte, fiacca le forze, e la malinconia del cuore curva il collo.	19 For grief can bring on an extremity and heartache destroy one's health.
20 Portato via (il morto), rimane la tristezza, e la vita del povero è secondo il suo cuore.	20 Turn not your thoughts to him again; cease to recall him; think rather of the end.
21 Non abbandonare il tuo cuore alla tristezza, ma cacciala da te e ricordati del fine.	21 Recall him not, for there is no hope of his return; it will not help him, but will do you harm.
22 Non te ne dimenticare: non si ritorna in qua, nulla gioverai al morto, e farai del male a te stesso.	22 Remember that his fate will also be yours; for him it was yesterday, for you today.
23 Ricordati del mio destino, che sarà pure il tuo: ieri a me, oggi a te.	23 With the departed dead, let memory fade; rally your courage, once the soul has left.
24 Come riposa il morto lascia riposare la sua memoria, consolalo quando il suo spirito si parte da lui.	24 The scribe's profession increases his wisdom; whoever is free from toil can become a wise man.
25 La sapienza dello scriba esige tempo libero dagli affari: chi ha poco da fare acquisterà la sapienza. E di qual sapienza sarà ripieno	25 How can he become learned who guides the plow, who thrills in wielding the goad like a lance, Who guides the ox and urges on the bullock, and whose every concern is for cattle?
26 chi tiene l'aratro e mette la sua gloria, come nella lancia, nello stimolare col pungolo i buoi, e, tutto occupato nei loro lavori, non parla d'altro che di vitelli?	26 His care is for plowing furrows, and he keeps a watch on the beasts in the stalls.
27 Mette ogni suo pensiero nel tirar solchi e le sue veglie nell'ingrassar vacche.	27 So with every engraver and designer who, laboring night and day, Fashions carved seals, and whose concern is to vary the pattern. His care is to produce a vivid impression, and he keeps watch till he finishes his design.
28 Così ogni legnaiolo e l'architetto che passano la notte e il giorno nel lavoro; e chi incide emblemi per sigilli: con assiduo lavoro ne varia la figura, mette il suo pensiero nel ritrarre l'imagine, e colle sue veglie perfezionerà il lavoro.	28 So with the smith standing near his anvil, forging crude iron. The heat from the fire sears his flesh, yet he toils away in the furnace heat. The clang of the hammer deafens his ears, His eyes are fixed on the tool he is shaping. His care is to finish his work, and he keeps watch till he perfects it in detail.
29 Così il fabbro, seduto presso l'incudine, intento a lavorare il ferro: il vapore del fuoco gli cuoce le carni e egli si schermisce dal calore della fornace:	29 So with the potter sitting at his labor, revolving the wheel with his feet. He is always concerned for his products, and turns them out in quantity.
30 il rumore del martello ne rintronano le orecchie; tien gli occhi fissi al modello del lavoro,	30 With his hands he molds the clay, and with his feet softens it. His care is for proper coloring, and he keeps watch on the fire of his kiln.
31 mette il suo pensiero nel finire il lavoro, e le sue veglie nell'adornarlo a perfezione.	31 All these men are skilled with their hands, each one an expert at his own task;
32 Così il vasaio: seduto al suo lavoro, coi piedi fa girar la rota, sempre ansioso pel suo lavoro, mette ogni sua opera nel far numero;	32 Without them no city could be lived in, and wherever they stay, they need not hunger.
33 Colle sue braccia dà forma alla creta, davanti ai suoi piedi la rende flessibile,	33 They do not occupy the judge's bench, nor are they prominent in the assembly; They set forth no decisions or judgments, nor are they found among the rulers;
34 mette il suo pensiero alla perfetta verniciatura, e le sue veglie nel pulire la fornace.	34 Yet they maintain God's ancient handiwork, and their concern is for exercise of their skill.
35 Tutti questi sperano nelle loro mani, e ognuno di essi è sapiente nel suo mestiere.
36 Senza di loro non si fabbrica una città;
37 ma essi non vi abiteranno, non vi passeggeranno. non entreranno nell'adunanza;
38 non sederanno sopra il seggio del giudice, non comprenderanno le disposizioni del diritto, non parleranno in pubblico di istruzione e di giustizia, non si troveranno occupati nelle parabole.
39 Ma essi ripareranno le cose del mondo, la loro preghiera è per i lavori del mestiere; applicheranno il loro spirito a ricercare la legge dell'Altissimo.
