1 L'anno diciottesimo del regno di Geroboamo figlio di Nabat, Abiam regnò sopra Giuda,	1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah
2 Egli regnò tre anni in Gerusalemme; la sua madre si chiamava Maaca, figlia di Abessalom.	2 and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant of Absalom.
3 Anche lui camminò in tutti i peccati che suo padre aveva commessi prima di lui, e il suo cuore non fu perfetto col Signore Dio suo, come il cuore di David suo padre;	3 In everything he fol owed the sinful example of his father before him; his heart was not wholly withYahweh his God, as the heart of David his ancestor had been.
4 ma per amor di David il Signore Dio suo gli diede una lampada in Gerusalemme, suscitando dopo di lui il suo figlio e lasciando sussistere Gerusalemme,	4 However, for David's sake, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, with a son to succeed him,so keeping Jerusalem secure;
5 perchè David aveva fatto ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore, senza traviare in nulla di tutto ciò che egli aveva comandato, per tutti i giorni di sua vita, eccettuato il fatto di Uria l'Eteo.	5 for David had done what Yahweh regarded as right and had never in all his life disobeyed whatever hecommanded him (except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite).
6 Roboamo fe' guerra per tutto il tempo della sua vita a Geroboamo.	6 .
7 Il resto degli atti d'Abiam e tutto quello ch'egli fece non è scritto forse nel libro delle cronache dei re di Giuda? Vi fu guerra tra Abiam e Geroboamo.	7 The rest of the history of Abijam, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah? Abijam and Jeroboam made war on each other.
8 Abiam poi si addormentò coi suoi padri e lo seppellirono nella città di David, e gli successe nel regno il suo figlio Asa. Asa re di Giuda	8 When Abijam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Asa succeededhim.
9 L'anno ventesimo di Geroboamo re di Israele, regnò Asa re di Giuda,	9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah
10 e regnò quarant'un anno in Gerusalemme. La sua madre si chiamava Maaca, figlia di Abessalom.	10 and reigned for forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant ofAbsalom.
11 Asa fece ciò che era giusto nel cospetto del Signore, come David suo padre,	11 Asa did what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.
12 e tolse via dal paese gli effeminati, e lo purificò da tutte le sozzure degli idoli che i suoi padri avevan fabbricato.	12 He drove the male prostitutes out of the country and got rid of all the idols which his ancestors hadmade.
13 Di più allontanò la sua madre Maaca, perchè non fosse più preposta ai sacrifizi di Priapo e al bosco che essa gli aveva consacrato, egli distrusse la sua spelonca, ne spezzò il turpissimo simulacro che bruciò nel torrente Cedron;	13 He even deprived his grandmother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made an obscenityfor Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.
14 ma non tolse gli alti luoghi. Però il cuore di Asa fu perfetto col Signore per tutta la vita,	14 Though the high places were not abolished, Asa's heart was loyal to Yahweh throughout his life.
15 e portò nella casa del Signore le cose che suo padre aveva consacrate e offerte in voto, l'oro, l'argento e i vasi.	15 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels in the Templeof Yahweh.
16 Vi fu guerra tra Asa e Baasa re d'Israele per tutto il loro tempo.	16 Asa and Baasha king of Israel were at war with each other throughout their reigns.
17 Or avendo Baasa re d'Israele invaso Giuda ed edificato Rama, affinchè nessuno potesse uscire o entrare dalla parte di Asa re di Giuda,	17 Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah to blockade Asa king of Judah.
18 Asa, preso tutto l'oro e l'argento che era rimasto nei tesori della casa del Signore e nei tesori della casa reale, lo mise nelle mani dei suoi servi, e li mandò da Benadad, figlio di Tabremon figlio di Ezion, re della Siria, che abitava in Damasco, a dirgli:	18 Asa then took al the remaining silver and gold left in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and theroyal palace. Entrusting this to his servants, King Asa sent them with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad sonof Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, the king of Aram who lived in Damascus,
19 «Vi è alleanza fra me e te, fra il mio padre e il tuo, ti mando quindi dei presenti, dell'argento e dell'oro, e ti prego di venire a render vana l'alleanza che hai con Baasa re d'Israele, affinchè egli si ritragga da me ».	19 'Let us make an al iance between myself and yourself, between my father and your father! Look, Ihave sent you a gift of silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil makehim withdraw from me.'
20 Benadad ascoltò il re Asa e spedi i capi del suo esercito contro le città d'Israele, e fece espugnare Ahion, Dan, Abelcasa di Maaca e tutto Cennerot, cioè tutta la terra di Neftali.	20 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa, and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maacah, al Chinneroth, and the whole territory of Naphtali.
21 Baasa, saputa la cosa, cessò di edificare Rama e se ne tornò a Tersa.	21 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah and retired to Tirzah.
22 Allora Asa mandò un messo per tutto Giuda a dire: « Nessuno manchi ». Cosi presero le pietre da Rama e i legnami con cui Baasa aveva fabbricato, e con essi il re Asa fabbricò Gabaa di Beniamino e Masfa.	22 King Asa then summoned al Judah, no one was exempt; they took away the stones and timber withwhich Baasha had been fortifying Ramah, and King Asa used them to fortify Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.

In his old age, however, he contracted a disease of his feet.
24 e si addormentò coi suoi padri, e fu sepolto con essi nella città di David suo padre, e gli successe nel regno Giosafat suo figlio.	24 When Asa fell asleep with his ancestors, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of his ancestorDavid; his son Jehoshaphat succeeded him.
25 L'anno secondo di Asa re di Giuda regnò sopra Israele Nadab figlio di Geroboamo. Regnò sopra Israele per due anni,	25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and hereigned over Israel for two years.
26 e fece ciò che è male nel cospetto del Signore, camminò nelle vie di suo padre, nei peccati coi quali egli aveva fatto peccare Israele.	26 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied his father's example and the sin into which he hadled Israel.
27 Or Baasa, figlio di Ahia, della casa d'Issacar, tese insidie a Nadab, e lo uccise presso Gebbeton, città dei Filistei, mentre Nadab e tutto Israele assediavan Gebbeton.	27 Baasha son of Ahijah, of the House of Issachar, plotted against him and murdered him at Gibbethon,a Philistine town which Nadab and all Israel were besieging.
28 Baasa l'uccise l'anno terzo di Asa re di Giuda e regnò in luogo suo,	28 Baasha kil ed Nadab and succeeded him in the third year of Asa king of Judah.
29 e, divenuto re, sterminò tutta la casa di Geroboamo; non lasciò neppure un'anima di quella stirpe, andò fino al completo sterminio, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva detto per mezzo del suo servo Ahia Silonita,	29 No sooner was he king than he butchered the entire House of Jeroboam, not sparing a soul, and putan end to it, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servant Ahijah of Shiloh,
30 a causa dei peccati che Geroboamo aveva commessi, e coi quali aveva fatto peccare Israele, a causa dell'iniquità colla quale aveva irritato il Signore Dio d'Israele,	30 because of the sins which he had committed and into which he had led Israel, and because he hadprovoked the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel.

33 L'anno terzo di Asa re di Giuda, Baasa, figlio di Ahia, regnò sopra tutto Israele, in Tersa, per ventiquattro anni.	33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of Israel at Tirzah fortwenty-four years.
