Lettera ai Filippesi 1

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Paolo e Timoteo, servi di Cristo Gesù, a tutti i santi in Cristo Gesù che sono a Filippi, con gli episcopi e i diaconi.	1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all God's holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, togetherwith their presiding elders and the deacons.
2 Grazia a voi e pace da parte di Dio, nostro Padre, e dal Signore Gesù Cristo.	2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Ringrazio il mio Dio ogni volta che vi ricordo;	3 I thank my God whenever I think of you,
4 in ogni mia supplica prego sempre con gioia per tutti voi,	4 and every time I pray for you al , I always pray with joy
5 perché avete collaborato al vangelo dal primo giorno fino al presente;	5 for your partnership in the gospel from the very first day up to the present.
6 ho la ferma convinzione che Colui che ha iniziato tra voi quest'opera eccellente la porterà a termine fino al giorno di Cristo Gesù.	6 I am quite confident that the One who began a good work in you wil go on completing it until the Day ofJesus Christ comes.
7 E' giusto che pensi cosìdi tutti voi, perché vi porto nel cuore, essendo voi tutti, e nelle mie catene e nella difesa e consolidamento del vangelo, partecipi con me della grazia.	7 It is only right that I should feel like this towards you all, because you have a place in my heart, sinceyou have all shared together in the grace that has been mine, both my chains and my work defending andestablishing the gospel.
8 Sì, mi è testimone Iddio quanto ardentemente ricerchi tutti voi col cuore di Cristo Gesù.	8 For God wil testify for me how much I long for you al with the warm longing of Christ Jesus;
9 Questo io chiedo: che il vostro amore cresca sempre più in conoscenza e ogni delicato sentimento,	9 it is my prayer that your love for one another may grow more and more with the knowledge andcomplete understanding
10 affinché apprezziate le cose migliori e così siate puri e senza macchia per il giorno di Cristo,	10 that will help you to come to true discernment, so that you wil be innocent and free of any trace of guiltwhen the Day of Christ comes,
11 ricolmi del frutto di giustizia, che si ottiene per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, a gloria e lode di Dio.	11 entirely fil ed with the fruits of uprightness through Jesus Christ, for the glory and praise of God.
12 Ora, fratelli, desidero informarvi che le mie vicende sono risultate di vantaggio al vangelo	12 Now I want you to realise, brothers, that the circumstances of my present life are helping rather thanhindering the advance of the gospel.
13 a tal punto che le mie catene per Cristo sono famose in tutto il pretorio e altrove,	13 My chains in Christ have become wel known not only to al the Praetorium, but to everybody else,
14 e molti fratelli, fiduciosi nel Signore a motivo della mia prigionia, con più fierezza annunciano, senza timore, la parola di Dio.	14 and so most of the brothers in the Lord have gained confidence from my chains and are getting moreand more daring in announcing the Message without any fear.
15 Alcuni certo predicano il Cristo mossi da invidia e da spirito di parte, altri invece con buona disposizione;	15 It is true that some of them are preaching Christ out of malice and rivalry; but there are many as welwhose intentions are good;
16 gli uni annunciano il Cristo per amore, ben sapendo che io sono posto a difesa del vangelo,	16 some are doing it out of love, knowing that I remain firm in my defence of the gospel.
17 gli altri invece per ambizione, con slealtà, immaginando di aumentare il peso delle mie catene.	17 There are others who are proclaiming Christ out of jealousy, not in sincerity but meaning to add to theweight of my chains.
18 Che me ne importa? Dopo tutto, o per pretesto o sinceramente, Cristo in ogni modo è annunciato. E di questo godo. Anzi continuerò a godere:	18 But what does it matter? Only that in both ways, whether with false motives or true, Christ isproclaimed, and for that I am happy;
19 so infatti che, grazie alla vostra preghiera e all'aiuto che mi darà lo Spirito di Gesù Cristo, questo gioverà alla mia salvezza.	19 and I shal go on being happy, too, because I know that this is what wil save me, with your prayers andwith the support of the Spirit of Jesus Christ;
20 Questo ardentemente attendo e spero: nulla mi farà arrossire, ma con tutta franchezza, anche al presente, come sempre, Cristo sarà glorificato nel mio corpo, sia ch'io viva, sia ch'io muoia.	20 al in accordance with my most confident hope and trust that I shal never have to admit defeat, but withcomplete fearlessness I shall go on, so that now, as always, Christ wil be glorified in my body, whether by mylife or my death.
21 Per me infatti vivere è Cristo e il morire un guadagno.	21 Life to me, of course, is Christ, but then death would be a positive gain.
22 Perché, se continuare a vivere nella carne mi frutta lavoro, non so cosa scegliere.	22 On the other hand again, if to be alive in the body gives me an opportunity for fruitful work, I do notknow which I should choose.
23 Sono preso da due sentimenti: desidero andarmene ed essere col Cristo, e sarebbe preferibile;	23 I am caught in this dilemma: I want to be gone and to be with Christ, and this is by far the strongerdesire-
24 ma continuare a vivere nella carne è più necessario per il vostro bene.	24 and yet for your sake to stay alive in this body is a more urgent need.
25 Persuaso di ciò, so che rimarrò e sarò accanto a tutti voi per il vostro progresso e la vostra gioia nella fede,	25 This much I know for certain, that I shal stay and stand by you al , to encourage your advance andyour joy in the faith,
26 affinché il vostro vanto per me s'accresca in Cristo Gesù, col mio nuovo ritorno tra voi.	26 so that my return to be among you may increase to overflowing your pride in Jesus Christ on myaccount.
27 Soltanto, comportatevi in maniera degna del vangelo di Cristo; e sia che venga a vedervi, sia che resti lontano, oda dire di voi che persistete in un solo spirito, lottando unanimi per la fede del vangelo,	27 But you must always behave in a way that is worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come toyou and see for myself or whether I only hear al about you from a distance, I shall find that you are standing firmand united in spirit, battling, as a team with a single aim, for the faith of the gospel,
28 e che gli avversari non vi atterriscono per nulla: questo è un indizio sicuro, per loro di perdizione e per voi di salvezza, e ciò da parte di Dio,	28 undismayed by any of your opponents. This will be a clear sign, for them that they are to be lost, andfor you that you are to be saved.
29 poiché per riguardo al Cristo, a voi è stata concessa la grazia non solo di credere, ma anche di soffrire per lui,	29 This comes from God, for you have been granted the privilege for Christ's sake not only of believing inhim but of suffering for him as wel ;
30 affrontando la medesima lotta che vedeste da me sostenuta e che, come sapete, è tuttora in corso.	30 you are fighting the same battle which you saw me fighting for him and which you hear I am fightingstill.
