LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Vedi com'è fallita la tua speranza; al solo vederlo uno resta sgomento.	1 Any hope you might have would be futile, the mere sight of him would overwhelm you.
2 Nessuno è tanto audace da osare di provocarlo, e chi mai potrebbe resistergli faccia a faccia?	2 When roused, he grows ferocious, who could ever stand up to him?
3 Chi mai lo ha affrontato senza danno? Nessuno sotto tutto il cielo.	3 Who has ever attacked him with impunity? No one beneath al heaven!
4 Non passerò sotto silenzio le sue membra, in fatto di forza non ha pari.	4 Next I wil talk of his limbs and describe his matchless strength-
5 Chi ha aperto sul davanti il suo manto, e attraverso la sua doppia corazza chi può penetrare?	5 who can undo the front of his tunic or pierce the double armour of his breastplate?
6 Chi mai ha aperto la porta delle sue fauci, circondate da denti spaventosi?	6 Who dare open the gates of his mouth? Terror reigns round his teeth!
7 Il suo dorso è una distesa di squame, strettamente saldate con un suggello.	7 His back is like rows of shields, sealed with a stone seal,
8 L'una con l'altra si toccano, così che neppure il vento passa tramezzo;	8 touching each other so close that no breath could pass between,
9 saldate le une con le altre, sono compatte e non possono separarsi.	9 sticking to one another making an impervious whole.
10 Il suo starnuto irradia luce e i suoi occhi sono come le pupille dell'aurora.	10 His sneezes radiate light, his eyes are like the eyelashes of the dawn.
11 Dalle sue fauci partono vampate, sprizzano scintille di fuoco.	11 From his mouth come fiery torches, sparks of fire fly out of it.
12 Dalle sue narici esce fumo, come da pentola attizzata e bollente.	12 His nostrils belch smoke like a cauldron boiling on the fire.
13 Il suo fiato incendia carboni e dalle sue fauci escono fiamme.	13 His breath could kindle coals, flame issues from his mouth.
14 Nel suo collo ha sede la forza e innanzi a lui incede il terrore.	14 His strength resides in his neck, violence leaps before him as he goes.
15 Le giogaie della sua carne sono ben compatte, sono ben salde su di lui e non si muovono.	15 The strips of his flesh are jointed together, firmly set in and immovable.
16 Il suo cuore è duro come pietra, solido come la macina inferiore.	16 His heart is as hard as rock unyielding as the lower mil stone.
17 Quando si alza, si spaventano i forti, e per il terrore restano smarriti.	17 When he stands up, the waves take fright and the bil ows of the sea retreat.
18 La spada che lo raggiunge non gli si infigge, né lancia né freccia né giavellotto.	18 Sword may strike but will not stick in him, no more will spear, javelin or lance.
19 Considera il ferro come paglia e il bronzo come legno tarlato.	19 Iron means no more to him than straw, nor bronze than rotten wood.
20 La freccia non lo mette in fuga; le pietre della fionda si cambiano per lui in preda.	20 No arrow can make him flee, a sling-stone tickles him like hay.
21 La mazza è per lui come stoppia e si fa beffe del vibrare dell'asta.	21 Club seems to him like straw, he laughs at the whirring javelin.
22 Sotto la pancia ha delle punte acuminate, e come erpice striscia sul molle terreno.	22 He has sharp potsherds underneath, and moves across the slime like a harrow.
23 Fa bollire come pentola il gorgo e trasforma il mare in vaso d'unguento.	23 He makes the depths seethe like a cauldron, he makes the sea fume like a scent burner.
24 Si lascia dietro una scia di luce e l'abisso sembra coperto di canizie.	24 Behind him he leaves a glittering wake -- a white fleece seems to float on the deeps.
25 Non v'è nulla sulla terra che lo domini, lui che fu fatto intrepido.	25 He has no equal on earth, being created without fear.
26 Su tutte le altezze egli guarda dall'alto, egli è il re di tutte le fiere superbe!".	26 He looks the haughtiest in the eye; of al the lordly beasts he is king.
