Psalms 57

1 Unto the end. May you not destroy. Of David, with the inscription of a title.	1 [Für den Chormeister. Nach der Weise «Zerstöre nicht!». Ein Lied Davids, als er vor Saul in die Höhle floh.]
2 If, truly and certainly, you speak justice, then judge what is right, you sons of men.	2 Sei mir gnädig, o Gott, sei mir gnädig; denn ich flüchte mich zu dir. Im Schatten deiner Flügel finde ich Zuflucht, bis das Unheil vorübergeht.
3 For, even in your heart, you work iniquity. Your hands construct injustice on the earth.	3 Ich rufe zu Gott, dem Höchsten, zu Gott, der mir beisteht.
4 Sinners have become foreigners from the womb; they have gone astray from conception. They have been speaking falsehoods.	4 Er sende mir Hilfe vom Himmel; meine Feinde schmähen mich. [Sela] Gott sende seine Huld und Treue.
5 Their fury is similar to that of a serpent; it is like a deaf asp, who even blocks her ears,	5 Ich muss mich mitten unter Löwen lagern, die gierig auf Menschen sind. Ihre Zähne sind Spieße und Pfeile, ein scharfes Schwert ihre Zunge.
6 who will not listen to the voice of charmers, nor even to the enchanter who chants wisely.	6 Erheb dich über die Himmel, o Gott! Deine Herrlichkeit erscheine über der ganzen Erde.
7 God will crush their teeth within their own mouth. The Lord will break the molars of the lions.	7 Sie haben meinen Schritten ein Netz gelegt und meine Seele gebeugt. Sie haben mir eine Grube gegraben; doch fielen sie selbst hinein. [Sela]
8 They will come to nothing, like water flowing away. He has aimed his bow, while they are being weakened.	8 Mein Herz ist bereit, o Gott, mein Herz ist bereit, ich will dir singen und spielen.
9 Like wax that flows, they will be carried away. Fire has fallen upon them, and they will not see the sun.	9 Wach auf, meine Seele! Wacht auf, Harfe und Saitenspiel! Ich will das Morgenrot wecken.
10 Before your thorns could know the brier, he consumes them alive, as if in rage.	10 Ich will dich vor den Völkern preisen, Herr, dir vor den Nationen lobsingen.
