1 E parlò il Signore a Mosè nel deserto del Sinai nel tabernacolo dell'alleanza il primo dìdel secondo mese, il secondo anno dell'uscita loro dall'Egitto, e disse:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, in the desert of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the secondmonth, in the second year after the exodus from Egypt, and said:
2 Fate il novero di tutti quanti i maschi di tutta la moltitudine de' figliuoli d'Israelesecondo le stirpi, e le case, e i nomi di ciascheduno:	2 'Take a census of the whole community of Israelites by clans and families, taking a count of the namesof al the males, head by head.
3 Tu e Aronne farete la rassegna di tutti gli uomini forti d'Israele da' venti anni in su,divisi nelle loro schiere.	3 You and Aaron wil register al those in Israel, twenty years of age and over, fit to bear arms, companyby company;
4 E saranno con voi i principi delle tribù, e delle famiglie secondo la loro agnazione.	4 you wil have one man from each tribe, the head of his family, to help you.

16 Questi i nobilissimi principi della nazione secondo le loro tribù, e famiglie, e capidell'esercito d'Israele:	16 These were men of repute in the community; they were the leaders of their ancestral tribes, the headsof Israel's thousands.
17 I quali furon descritti da Mosè ed Aronne, e tutta la moltitudine del popolo	17 Moses and Aaron took these men who had been named
18 Fu ragunata da essi il primo dì del secondo mese, e ne fecero il novero secondo la lorogenealogia, e secondo la famiglia, e la casa, testa per testa, col proprio nome diciascheduno dall'età di vent'anni in poi,	18 and on the first day of the second month they mustered the whole community. The Israelitesestablished their pedigrees by clans and families, and one by one the names of all men of twenty years and overwere recorded.
19 Come il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè. E fu fatto il novero nel deserto del Sinai.	19 As Yahweh had ordered, Moses registered them in the desert of Sinai.
20 Della tribù di Ruben primogenito d'Israele tutti i maschi da' vent'anni in su atti allaguerra secondo la loro genealogia, e famiglia, e casa, testa per testa, (furon contati)	20 Once the pedigrees of the descendants of Reuben, Israel's first-born, had been established by clansand families, the names of all the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.
21 Quaranta sei mila cinquecento.	21 The total of these for the tribe of Reuben was forty-six thousand five hundred.
22 De' discendenti di Simeon tutti maschi da' venti anni in su atti alla guerra secondo la lorogenealogia, e famiglia, e casa, testa per testa, co' nomi loro furon contati	22 Once the pedigrees of Simeon's descendants had been established by clans and families, the namesof al the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.
23 Cinquanta nove mila trecento.	23 The total of these for the tribe of Simeon was fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

25 Quarantacinque mila secento cinquanta.	25 The total of these for the tribe of Gad was forty-five thousand six hundred and fifty.
26 De' discendenti di Giuda tutti quelli che erano atti alla guerra, da' venti anni in susecondo la loro genealogia, e famiglia, e casa co' nomi di ciascheduno,	26 Once the pedigrees of Judah's descendants had been established by clans and families, the namesof al the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.
27 Furon contati settanta quattro mila secento.	27 The total of these for the tribe of Judah was seventy-four thousand six hundred.
28 De' discendenti d'Issachar tutti quelli che erano atti alla guerra da' vent'anni in susecondo la genealogia, e famiglia, e casa loro co' nomi di ciascheduno,	28 Once the pedigrees of Issachar's descendants had been established by clans and families, thenames of al the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.

43 Cinquanta tre mila quattrocento.	43 The total of these for the tribe of Naphtali was fifty-three thousand four hundred.
44 Questi sono quelli che furon contati da Mosè e da Aronne, e da' dodici principi d'Israele,ciascuno secondo la propria casa e famiglia.	44 Such were the men registered by Moses, Aaron and the leaders of Israel, of whom there were twelve,each representing his family.
45 E tutto il numero de' figliuoli d'Israele da' vent'anni in su atti alla guerra noveratisecondo le loro case, e famiglie fu	45 Al the Israelites of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were counted by families.
46 Secento tre mila cinquecento cinquanta uomini.	46 Altogether, the total came to six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.
47 Ma i Leviti non furono contati con questi nelle famiglie della loro tribù.	47 But the Levites and their tribes were not included in the count.
48 Perché il Signore parlò a Mosè, e disse:	48 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
49 Non registrare la tribù di Levi, e non la mettere in conto co' figliuoli d'Israele:	49 'Do not, however, take a census of the Levites, or register them with the other Israelites,
50 Ma da' ad essi la soprintendenza del tabernacolo del testimonio, e di tutti i suoi vasi, edi tutto quello che spetta alle cerimonie. Ei porteranno il tabernacolo, e tutte le cose,che servono ad uso di esso, e saranno occupati nel ministero, e avranno il loro accampamentoall'intorno del tabernacolo.	50 but enrol the Levites to take charge of the Dwel ing where the Testimony is and of al its furnishingsand belongings. They must carry the Dwel ing and al its furnishings; they must look after the Dwel ing and pitchtheir camp round it.
51 Quando dovrà farsi viaggio, i Leviti disfaranno il tabernacolo: quando dovrà posarsi ilcampo, essi lo erigeranno. Se alcuno fuori di essi vi si accosterà, sarà ucciso.	51 Whenever the Dwelling is moved, the Levites will dismantle it; whenever the Dwel ing stops for thenight, the Levites wil erect it. Any unauthorised person coming near it will be put to death.
52 E i figliuoli d'Israele pianteranno il loro campo divisi nelle loro squadre, e compagnie, eordinanze.	52 The Israelites wil pitch their tents, each in their own encampment and by their own standard,company by company,
53 Ma i Leviti pianteranno le loro tende all'intorno del tabernacolo, affinché io non abbia amandar l'ira mia sopra la moltitudine de' figliuoli d'Israele, ed essi veglieranno a guardiadel tabernacolo del testimonio.	53 but the Levites wil pitch their tents round the Dwel ing where the Testimony is. In this way Retributionwil be kept from fal ing on the whole community of Israelites, and the Levites wil keep charge of the Dwel ing ofthe Testimony.'
54 Fecero adunque i figliuoli d'Israele tutto quello che il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè.	54 The Israelites did exactly as Yahweh had ordered Moses. They did as he said.
