Proverbs 24

1 Seek not to be like evil men, neither desire to be with them:	1 Non invidiare le persone malvagie, non desiderare di stare con loro,
2 Because their mind studieth robberies, and their lips speak deceits.	2 poiché il loro cuore trama rovine e le loro labbra non esprimono che malanni.
3 By wisdom the house shall be built, and by prudence it shall be strengthened.	3 Con la sapienza si costruisce una casa e con la prudenza la si rende salda;
4 By instruction the storerooms shall be filled with all precious and most beautiful wealth.	4 con la scienza si riempiono le sue stanze di tutti i beni preziosi e deliziosi.
5 A wise man is strong: and a knowing man, stout and valiant.	5 Il saggio cresce in potenza e chi è esperto aumenta di forza.
6 Because war is managed by due ordering: and there shall be safety where there are many counsels.	6 Perché con le strategie si fa la guerra e la vittoria dipende dal numero dei consiglieri.
7 Wisdom is too high for a fool, in the gate he shall not open his mouth.	7 È troppo alta la sapienza per lo stolto, alla porta della città egli non potrà aprire bocca.
8 He that deviseth to do evils, shall be called a fool.	8 Chi trama per fare il male si chiama mestatore.
9 The thought of a fool is sin: and the detracter is the abomination of men.	9 Il proposito dello stolto è il peccato e lo spavaldo è aborrito da tutti.
10 If thou lose hope being weary in the day of distress, thy strength shall be diminished.	10 Se te ne stai indolente nel giorno della sventura, ben poca è la tua forza.
11 Deliver them that are led to death: and those that are drawn to death forbear not to deliver.	11 Libera quelli che sono condotti alla morte e salva quelli che sono trascinati al supplizio.
12 If thou say: I have not strength enough: he that seeth into the heart, he understandeth, and nothing deceiveth the keeper of thy soul, end he shall render to a man according to his works.	12 Se tu dicessi: «Io non lo sapevo», credi che non l’intenda colui che pesa i cuori? Colui che veglia sulla tua vita lo sa; egli renderà a ciascuno secondo le sue opere.
13 Fat honey, my son, because it is good, and the honeycomb most sweet to thy throat:	13 Mangia il miele, figlio mio, perché è buono e il favo è dolce al tuo palato.
14 So also is the doctrine of wisdom to thy soul: which when thou hast found, thou shalt have hope in the end, and thy hope shall not perish.	14 Sappi che tale è la sapienza per te; se la trovi, avrai un avvenire e la tua speranza non sarà stroncata.
15 Lie not in wait, nor seek after wickedness in the house of the just, nor spoil his rest.	15 Non insidiare, come un malvagio, la dimora del giusto, non distruggere la sua abitazione,
16 For a just mall shall fall seven times and shall rise again: but the wicked shall fall down into evil.	16 perché se il giusto cade sette volte, egli si rialza, ma i malvagi soccombono nella sventura.
17 When thy enemy shall fall, be not glad, and in his ruin let not thy heart rejoice:	17 Non ti rallegrare per la caduta del tuo nemico e non gioisca il tuo cuore, quando egli soccombe,
18 Lest the Lord see, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.	18 perché il Signore non veda e se ne dispiaccia e allontani da lui la sua collera.
19 Contend not with the wicked, nor seek to be like the ungodly:	19 Non irritarti per i malfattori e non invidiare i malvagi,
20 For evil men have no hope of things to come, and the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.	20 perché non ci sarà avvenire per il cattivo e la lampada dei malvagi si spegnerà.
21 My son, fear the Lord and the king: and have nothing to do with detracters.	21 Figlio mio, temi il Signore e il re, e con i ribelli non immischiarti,
22 For their destruction shall rise suddenly: and who knoweth the ruin of both?	22 perché improvviso sorgerà il loro castigo e la rovina mandata da entrambi chi la conosce?
23 These things also to the wise: It is not good to have respect to persons in judgment.	23 Anche queste sono parole dei saggi. Avere preferenze personali in giudizio non è bene.
24 They that say to the wicked man: Thou art just: shall be cursed by the people, and the tribes shall abhor them.	24 Chi dice al malvagio: «Tu sei innocente», i popoli lo malediranno, le genti lo detesteranno;
25 They that rebuke him, shall be praised: and a blessing shall come upon them.	25 a chi invece lo punisce tutto andrà bene, su di lui si riverserà la benedizione.
26 He shall kiss the lips, who answereth right words.	26 Dà un bacio sulle labbra chi risponde con parole giuste.
27 Prepare thy work without, and diligently till thy ground: that afterward thou mayst build thy house.	27 Cura prima il tuo lavoro di fuori e prepàratelo nel tuo campo, e poi costruisciti la casa.
28 Be not witness without cause against thy neighbour: and deceive not any man with thy lips.	28 Non testimoniare senza motivo contro il tuo prossimo, non ingannare con le labbra.
29 Say not: I will do to him as he hath done to me: I will render to every one according to his work.	29 Non dire: «Come ha fatto a me così io farò a lui, renderò a ciascuno come si merita».
30 I passed by the field of the slothful man, and by the vineyard of the foolish man:	30 Sono passato vicino al campo di un pigro, alla vigna di un uomo insensato:
31 And behold it was all filled with nettles, and thorns had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall was broken down.	31 ecco, ovunque erano cresciute le erbacce, il terreno era coperto di cardi e il recinto di pietre era in rovina.
32 Which when I had seen, I laid it up in my heart, and by the example I received instruction.	32 Ho osservato e ho riflettuto, ho visto e ho tratto questa lezione:
33 Thou wilt sleep a little, said I, thou wilt slumber a little, thou wilt fold thy hands a little to rest:	33 un po’ dormi, un po’ sonnecchi, un po’ incroci le braccia per riposare,
34 And poverty shall come to thee as a runner, and beggary as an armed man.	34 e intanto arriva a te la povertà, come un vagabondo, e l’indigenza, come se tu fossi un accattone.
