CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINSAGRADA BIBLIA
Then Job responded by saying:1 Jó tomou então a palavra nestes termos:
Whose assistant are you? Is he weak-minded? And do you sustain the arm of him that is not strong?2 Como sabes sustentar bem o fraco, e socorrer um braço sem vigor!
To whom have you given advice? Perhaps it is to him that has no wisdom or prudence that you have revealed your many ideas.3 Como sabes aconselhar o ignorante, e dar mostras de abundante sabedoria!
Who is it that you wanted to teach? Was it not him that created the breath of life?4 A quem diriges este discurso? Sob a inspiração de quem falas tu?
Behold, giant things groan under the waters, and they dwell with them.5 As sombras agitam-se embaixo {da terra}, as águas e seus habitantes {estão temerosos}.
The underworld is naked before him, and there is no covering for perdition.6 A região dos mortos está aberta diante dele, os infernos não têm véu.
He stretched out the North over emptiness, and he suspended the land over nothing.7 Estende o setentrião sobre o vácuo, suspende a terra acima do nada.
He secures the waters in his clouds, so that they do not burst forth downward all at once.8 Prende as águas em suas nuvens, e as nuvens não se rasgam sob seu peso.
He holds back the face of his throne, and he stretches his cloud over it.9 Vela a face da lua, estendendo sobre ela uma nuvem.
He has set limits around the waters, until light and darkness shall reach their limit.10 Traçou um círculo à superfície das águas, onde a luz confina com as trevas.
The pillars of heaven tremble and are frightened at his nod.11 As colunas do céu estremecem e assustam-se com a sua ameaça.
By his strength, the seas suddenly gather together, and his foresight has struck the arrogant.12 Com seu poder levanta o mar, com sua sabedoria destruiu Raab.
His spirit has adorned the heavens, and his birthing hand has brought forth the winding serpent.13 Seu sopro varreu os céus, e sua mão feriu a serpente fugitiva.
Behold, these things have been said about his ways in part, and, since we barely have heard a small drop of his word, who will be able to gaze upon the thunder of his greatness?14 Eis que tudo isso não é mais que o contorno de suas obras, e se apenas percebemos um fraco eco dessas obras, quem compreenderá o trovão de seu poder?
