Proverbi 20

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Il vino è un beffardo, il liquore un insolente; chi vi si attacca non può esser saggio.	1 Wine is reckless, liquor rowdy; unwise is anyone whom it seduces.
2 Come il ruggito del leone è l'ira del re; chi la eccita fa del male a se stesso.	2 Like the roaring of a lion is the fury of a king; whoever provokes him sins against himself.
3 E' gloria per ognuno evitar le risse; ma ogni stolto vi si getta a capofitto.	3 It is praiseworthy to stop short of a law-suit; only a fool flies into a rage.
4 Alla stagione nuova il pigro non lavora; al tempo della messe, cercherà ma invano.	4 In autumn the idler does not plough, at harvest time he looks -- nothing there!
5 Acqua profonda è il consiglio nel cuore dell'uomo; l'uomo intelligente vi saprà attingere.	5 The resources of the human heart are like deep waters: an understanding person has only to draw onthem.
6 Molti uomini proclamano la loro bontà; ma l'uomo fedele chi lo troverà?	6 Many describe themselves as people of faithful love, but who can find someone real y to be trusted?
7 Il giusto cammina nella sua integrità; beati i suoi figli dopo lui!	7 The upright whose ways are blameless -- blessed the children who come after!
8 Un re che siede sopra un trono di giustizia, disperde con lo sguardo ogni malvagio.	8 A king enthroned on the judgement seat with one look scatters al that is evil.
9 Chi può dire: "Ho purificato il mio cuore", "Sono puro dal mio peccato"?	9 Who can say, 'I have cleansed my heart, I am purified of my sin'?
10 Peso diverso da peso, misura diversa da misura: tutt'e due sono abominate dal Signore.	10 One weight here, another there; here one measure, there another: both alike are abhorrent toYahweh.
11 Anche il ragazzo fa conoscere dai suoi atti se la sua condotta è pura e retta.	11 A young man's character appears in what he does, if his behaviour is pure and straight.
12 L'orecchio che intende e l'occhio che vede: il Signore li ha fatti tutt'e due.	12 Ear that hears, eye that sees, Yahweh has made both of these.
13 Non amare il sonno per non diventar povero; apri i tuoi occhi e sàziati di pane.	13 Do not love sleep or you will know poverty; keep your eyes open and have your fil of food.
14 "E' cattivo, è cattivo", dice il compratore; ma quando se ne è andato si felicita.	14 'No good, no good!' says the buyer, but he goes off congratulating himself.
15 C'è l'oro e l'abbondanza delle perle; ma ornamento prezioso son le labbra dotte.	15 There are gold and jewels of every type, but a priceless ornament is speech informed by knowledge.
16 Prendi la sua veste! L'ha impegnata per uno straniero! Per gli sconosciuti tienla in pegno!	16 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him to the profit ofpersons unknown!
17 Dolce è per l'uomo il cibo della frode, ma dopo la sua bocca è piena di sabbia.	17 Bread is sweet when it is got by fraud, but later the mouth is ful of grit.
18 Consolida i progetti col consiglio, con piani ben precisi fa' la guerra.	18 Plans are matured by consultation; take wise advice when waging war.
19 Rivela i segreti chi sparla facilmente; con chi tien le labbra aperte, non aver contatti.	19 The bearer of gossip lets out secrets; do not mingle with chatterers.
20 Chi maledice suo padre e sua madre, la sua luce si spegnerà come quando fa buio.	20 Whoever curses father or mother wil have his lamp put out in the deepest darkness.
21 L'eredità acquistata in fretta all'inizio, non sarà benedetta alla sua fine.	21 Property quickly come by at first wil not be blessed in the end.
22 Non dire: "Renderò male per male!"; spera nel Signore e lui ti salverà.	22 Do not say, 'I shall repay evil'; put your hope in Yahweh and he wil keep you safe.
23 Peso diverso da peso è un obbrobrio per il Signore e le bilance false non son buone.	23 One weight here, another there: this is abhorrent to Yahweh, false scales are not good.
24 Dal Signore sono ordinati i passi dell'uomo: come può dunque l'uomo conoscer la sua via?	24 Yahweh guides the steps of the powerful: but who can comprehend human ways?
25 E' un laccio per l'uomo dire in fretta: "Cosa sacra!", e dopo fatto il voto ripensarci.	25 Anyone is trapped who cries 'Dedicated!' and begins to reflect only after the vow.
26 Disperde gli empi un re sapiente, rotola su di loro il rullo.	26 A wise king winnows the wicked and makes the wheel pass over them.
27 Lampada del Signore è lo spirito dell'uomo, che scruta fino al fondo del suo essere.	27 The human spirit is the lamp of Yahweh -- searching the deepest self.
28 Bontà e fedeltà vegliano il re, nella giustizia si consolida il suo trono.	28 Faithful love and loyalty mount guard over the king, his throne is founded on saving justice.
29 Corona dei giovani è il loro vigore, ornamento dei vecchi è la canizie.	29 The pride of the young is their strength, the ornament of the old, grey hairs.
30 Le ferite sanguinanti sono rimedio contro il male; i colpi lo sono dell'intimo dell'animo.	30 Wounding strokes are good medicine for evil, blows have an effect on the inmost self.
