| 3 Si mise in collera anche contro i suoi tre amici, perché non avendo dato risposta, avevano riconosciuto Dio colpevole. | 3 he was angry also at Job's three friends because they had found no answer, although they had declared Job to be in the wrong. |
| 4 Ora Eliu aveva atteso, mentre essi parlavano con Giobbe, perché essi erano più anziani di lui; | 4 Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job because they were older than he. |
| 5 però quando Eliu vide che non c'era più risposta sulla bocca di questi tre uomini, si mise in collera. | 5 And when Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, he became angry. |
| 6 Prese quindi la parola Eliu, figlio di Barachele il buzita, e disse: "Io sono ancor giovane e voi anziani; per questo ho esitato e temuto di esporvi la mia opinione. | 6 And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered: "I am young in years, and you are aged; therefore I was timid and afraid to declare my opinion to you. |
| 7 Pensavo: "Parleranno gli anni, e l'età avanzata insegnerà la sapienza". | 7 I said, 'Let days speak, and many years teach wisdom.' |
| 8 Però nell'uomo c'è uno spirito, il soffio dell'Onnipotente, che rende intelligente. | 8 But it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that makes him understand. |
| 9 Non sono i molti anni a dare la sapienza, né per essere anziano uno sa giudicare. | 9 It is not the old that are wise, nor the aged that understand what is right. |
| 10 Perciò oso dire: "Ascoltatemi, esporrò anch'io la mia opinione". | 10 Therefore I say, 'Listen to me; let me also declare my opinion.' |
| 11 Ecco, contavo sui vostri discorsi; ho prestato attenzione ai vostri argomenti, finché ricercavate delle risposte. | 11 "Behold, I waited for your words, I listened for your wise sayings, while you searched out what to say. |
| 12 Per quanto ascoltassi con attenzione, nessuno di voi fu capace di criticare Giobbe, di rispondere alle sue parole. | 12 I gave you my attention, and, behold, there was none that confuted Job, or that answered his words, among you. |
| 13 Non dite dunque: "Noi abbiamo trovato la sapienza, solo Dio la può confutare, non un uomo". | 13 Beware lest you say, 'We have found wisdom; God may vanquish him, not man.' |
| 14 Giobbe non ha rivolto a me le sue parole, e non risponderò con i vostri ragionamenti. | 14 He has not directed his words against me, and I will not answer him with your speeches. |
| 15 Essi, sconcertati, non rispondono più, mancano loro le parole. | 15 "They are discomfited, they answer no more; they have not a word to say. |
| 16 Debbo ancora attendere, dato che non parlano, poiché stanno lì senza rispondere? | 16 And shall I wait, because they do not speak, because they stand there, and answer no more? |
| 17 Replicherò anch'io per la mia parte, esporrò anch'io ciò che so. | 17 I also will give my answer; I also will declare my opinion. |
| 18 Perché sono pieno di cose da dire; mi preme lo spirito che è dentro di me. | 18 For I am full of words, the spirit within me constrains me. |
| 19 Ecco, dentro di me c'è come un vino che non ha sfogo, come degli otri nuovi che scoppiano. | 19 Behold, my heart is like wine that has no vent; like new wineskins, it is ready to burst. |
| 20 Parlerò dunque e ne avrò sollievo, aprirò la bocca e risponderò. | 20 I must speak, that I may find relief; I must open my lips and answer. |
| 21 Non guarderò in faccia a nessuno, non adulerò nessuno, | 21 I will not show partiality to any person or use flattery toward any man. |
| 22 perché non so adulare; altrimenti il mio Creatore in breve mi eliminerebbe. | 22 For I do not know how to flatter, else would my Maker soon put an end to me. |
