NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
1 Come to our aid, O God of the universe, and put all the nations in dread of you!1 Miserere nostri, Deus omnium, et respice nos
et ostende nobis lucem miserationum tuarum;
2 Raise your hand against the heathen, that they may realize your power.2 et immitte timorem tuum super gentes,
quae non exquisierunt te,
ut cognoscant quia non est Deus nisi tu,
et enarrent magnalia tua.
3 As you have used us to show them your holiness, so now use them to show us your glory.3 Alleva manum tuam super gentes alienas,
ut videant potentiam tuam.
4 Thus they will know, as we know, that there is no God but you.4 Sicut enim in conspectu eorum sanctificatus es in nobis,
sic in conspectu nostro magnificaberis in eis,
5 Give new signs and work new wonders; show forth the splendor of your right hand and arm;5 ut cognoscant, sicut et nos cognovimus,
quoniam non est Deus praeter te, Domine.
6 Rouse your anger, pour out wrath, humble the enemy, scatter the foe.6 Innova signa et itera mirabilia,
7 Hasten the day, bring on the time;7 glorifica manum et firma brachium dextrum,
8 Let raging fire consume the fugitive, and your people's oppressors meet destruction.8 excita furorem et effunde iram,
9 crush the heads of the hostile rulers.9 tolle adversarium et afflige inimicum.
10 Gather all the tribes of Jacob, that they may inherit the land as of old,10 Festina tempus et memento praefinitionis,
et enarrentur mirabilia tua.
11 Show mercy to the people called by your name; Israel, whom you named your first-born.11 In ira flammae devoretur, qui salvatur;
et, qui pessimant plebem tuam, inveniant perditionem.
12 Take pity on your holy city, Jerusalem, your dwelling place.12 Contere caput principum inimicorum
dicentium: “ Non est alius praeter nos!”.
13 Fill Zion with your majesty, your temple with your glory.13 Congrega omnes tribus Iacob
et hereditabis eos sicut ab initio.
14 Give evidence of your deeds of old; fulfill the prophecies spoken in your name,14 Miserere plebi tuae, super quam invocatum est nomen tuum,
et Israel, quem coaequasti primogenito tuo.
15 Reward those who have hoped in you, and let your prophets be proved true.15 Miserere civitati sanctificationis tuae,
Ierusalem, loco requiei tuae.
16 Hear the prayer of your servants, for you are ever gracious to your people;16 Reple Sion maiestate tua
et gloria tua templum tuum.
17 Thus it will be known to the very ends of the earth that you are the eternal God.17 Da testimonium his, qui ab initio creaturae tuae sunt,
et suscita praedicationes, quas locuti sunt in nomine tuo.
18 The throat can swallow any food, yet some foods are more agreeable than others;18 Da mercedem sustinentibus te,
ut prophetae tui fideles inveniantur.
Et exaudi orationes servorum tuorum,
19 As the palate tests meat by its savor, so does a keen mind insincere words.19 secundum beneplacitum super populo tuo,
et dirige nos in viam iustitiae,
et sciant omnes, qui habitant terram,
quia tu es Deus saeculorum.
20 A deceitful character causes grief, but an experienced man can turn the tables on him.20 Omnem escam manducabit venter,
et est cibus cibo melior;
21 Though any man may be accepted as a husband, yet one girl will be more suitable than another:21 fauces percipiunt cibum ferae,
et cor sensatum verba mendacia.
22 A woman's beauty makes her husband's face light up, for it surpasses all else that charms the eye;22 Cor pravum dabit tristitiam,
et homo peritus retribuet illi.
23 And if, besides, her speech is kindly, his lot is beyond that of mortal men.23 Omnem masculum excipiet mulier,
est autem filia melior filia.
24 A wife is her husband's richest treasure, a helpmate, a steadying column.24 Species mulieris exhilarat faciem viri sui,
et super omnem concupiscentiam hominis superducit desiderium.
25 A vineyard with no hedge will be overrun; a man with no wife becomes a homeless wanderer.25 Insuper, si est super lingua eius curatio
et mitigatio et misericordia,
non est vir illius secundum filios hominum.
26 Who will trust an armed band that shifts from city to city?26 Qui possidet mulierem bonam, inchoat possessionem,
adiutorium secundum illum est et columna requiei.
27 Or a man who has no nest, but lodges where night overtakes him?27 Ubi non est saepes, diripietur vinea,
et ubi non est mulier, ingemiscet errans.
28 Quis credit ei, qui non habet nidum
et deflectens ubicumque obscuraverit,
quasi succinctus latro exsiliens de civitate in civitatem?
