Livre des Proverbes 20

JERUSALEM	KING JAMES BIBLE
1 Raillerie dans le vin! Insolence dans la boisson! Qui s'y égare n'est pas sage.	1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
2 Tel le rugissement du lion, la colère du roi! Qui l'excite pèche contre lui-même.	2 The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
3 C'est un honneur pour l'homme d'éviter les procès, mais quiconque est fou se déchaîne.	3 It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
4 A l'automne, le paresseux ne laboure pas, à la moisson il cherche, et rien!	4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5 C'est une eau profonde que le conseil au coeur de l'homme, l'homme intelligent n'a qu'à puiser.	5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6 Beaucoup de gens se proclament hommes de bien, mais un homme fidèle, qui le trouvera?	6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
7 Le juste qui se conduit honnêtement, heureux ses enfants après lui!	7 The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
8 Un roi siégeant au tribunal dissipe tout mal par son regard.	8 A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
9 Qui peut dire: "J'ai purifié mon coeur, de mon péché je suis net?"	9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
10 Poids et poids, mesure et mesure: deux choses en horreur à Yahvé.	10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.
11 Même par ses actes un jeune homme se fait connaître, si son action est pure et si elle est droite.	11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
12 L'oreille qui entend, l'oeil qui voit, l'un et l'autre, Yahvé les a faits.	12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.
13 N'aime pas à somnoler, tu deviendrais pauvre; tiens les yeux ouverts, tu auras ton content depain!	13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14 "Mauvais! mauvais!" dit l'acheteur, mais en partant il se félicite.	14 It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
15 Il y a l'or et toutes sortes de perles, mais la chose la plus précieuse, ce sont les lèvres instruites.	15 There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
16 Prends-lui son vêtement, car il a cautionné un étranger, au profit d'inconnus, prends-lui ungage!	16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
17 Doux est à l'homme le pain de la fraude, mais ensuite la bouche est remplie de gravier.	17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
18 Dans le conseil s'affermissent les projets: par de sages calculs conduis la guerre.	18 Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
19 Il révèle les secrets, le colporteur de médisance; avec qui a toujours la bouche ouverte, ne te liepas!	19 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
20 Qui maudit son père et sa mère verra s'éteindre sa lampe au coeur des ténèbres.	20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
21 Le bien vite acquis au début ne sera pas béni à la fin.	21 An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.
22 Ne dis point: "Je rendrai le mal!" fie-toi à Yahvé qui te sauvera.	22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.
23 Abomination pour Yahvé: poids et poids; une balance fausse, ce n'est pas bien.	23 Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.
24 Yahvé dirige les pas de l'homme: comment l'homme comprendrait-il son chemin?	24 Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?
25 C'est un piège pour l'homme de crier: "Ceci est sacré!" et, après les voeux, de réfléchir.	25 It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make inquiry.
26 Un roi sage vanne les méchants et fait passer sur eux la roue.	26 A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
27 La lampe de Yahvé, c'est l'esprit de l'homme qui pénètre jusqu'au tréfonds de son être.	27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
28 Piété et fidélité montent la garde près du roi; sur la piété est fondé le trône.	28 Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.
29 La fierté des jeunes gens, c'est leur vigueur, la parure des vieillards, c'est leur tête chenue.	29 The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.
30 Les blessures sanglantes sont un remède à la méchanceté, les coups vont jusqu'au fond de l'être.	30 The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.
