Livre de Job 36

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Elihu continua et dit:	1 Elihu went on speaking. He said:
2 Patiente un peu et laisse-moi t'instruire, car je n'ai pas tout dit en faveur de Dieu.	2 Be patient a little longer while I explain, for I have more to say on God's behalf.
3 Je veux tirer mon savoir de très loin, pour justifier mon Créateur.	3 I shal range far afield for my arguments to prove my Maker just.
4 En vérité, mes paroles ignorent le mensonge, et un homme d'une science accomplie est près de toi.	4 I guarantee, nothing I shal say wil be untrue: you have a man of sound learning here.
5 Dieu ne rejette pas l'homme au coeur pur,	5 God does not reject anyone whose heart is pure
6 il ne laisse pas vivre le méchant en pleine force. Il rend justice aux pauvres,	6 or let the sinner live on in al his power. He does accord fair judgement to the afflicted;
7 fait prévaloir les droits du juste. Lorsqu'il élève des rois au trône et que s'exaltent ceux qui siègent pourtoujours,	7 he does uphold what the upright deserve. When he raises kings to thrones, if they grow proud of theirunending rule,
8 alors il les lie avec des chaînes, ils sont pris dans les liens de l'affliction.	8 then he fetters them with chains, they are caught in the bonds of affliction.
9 Il les éclaire sur leurs actes, sur les fautes d'orgueil qu'ils ont commises.	9 He shows them the import of their deeds, of the sins of pride they have committed.
10 A leurs oreilles il fait entendre un avertissement, leur ordonne de se détourner du mal.	10 In their ears he sounds a warning, ordering them to turn back from doing wrong.
11 S'ils écoutent et se montrent dociles, leurs jours s'achèvent dans le bonheur et leurs années dans lesdélices.	11 If they take notice and obey him, the rest of their days are prosperous and the years pass pleasantly.
12 Sinon, ils passent par le Canal et ils périssent en insensés.	12 If not, they go down the Canal and perish in their stupidity.
13 Oui, les endurcis, qui gardent leur colère et ne crient pas à l'aide quand il les enchaîne,	13 The stubborn, who cherish their anger and do not cry for help when he chains them,
14 meurent en pleine jeunesse et leur vie est méprisée.	14 die in the bloom of youth or live among the male prostitutes of the temple.
15 Mais il sauve le pauvre par sa pauvreté, il l'avertit dans sa misère.	15 But God saves the afflicted by his affliction, warning him in his misery.
16 Toi aussi, il veut t'arracher à l'angoisse. Tandis que tu jouissais d'une abondance sans restriction etque la graisse débordait sur ta table,	16 You, too, he would like to snatch from torment. While you were enjoying boundless abundance, withrich food piled high on your table,
17 tu n'instruisais pas le procès des méchants, et ne faisais pas droit à l'orphelin.	17 you did not bring the wicked to trial and did not give fair judgement to the orphan.
18 Prends garde d'être séduit par l'abondance, corrompu par de riches présents.	18 Beware of being led astray by abundance, of being corrupted by expensive presents.
19 Fais comparaître le grand comme l'homme sans or, l'homme au bras puissant comme le faible.	19 Take the powerful to law, not merely the penniless, those whose arm is strong, not merely the weak.
20 N'écrase pas ceux qui te sont étrangers pour mettre à leur place ta parenté.	20 Do not crush people you do not know to instal your relations in their place.
21 Garde-toi de te porter vers l'injustice, car c'est pour cela que l'affliction t'éprouve.	21 Avoid any tendency to wrong-doing, for this is why affliction is testing you now.
22 Vois, Dieu est sublime par sa force et quel maître lui comparer?	22 See, God is sublime in his strength and who can teach lessons as he does?
23 Qui lui a indiqué la voie à suivre, qui oserait lui dire: "Tu as commis l'injustice?"	23 Who has even told him which course to take, or dared to say to him, 'You have done wrong'?
24 Songe plutôt à magnifier son oeuvre, que l'homme a célébrée par des cantiques.	24 Consider, rather, how you may praise his work, a theme that many have sung.
25 C'est un spectacle offert à tous, à distance l'homme la regarde.	25 This is something that everyone can see, gazing, as we do, from afar.
26 Oui, Dieu est si grand qu'il dépasse notre science, et le nombre de ses ans reste incalculable.	26 Yes, the greatness of God exceeds our knowledge, the number of his years is past counting.
27 C'est lui qui réduit les gouttes d'eau, pulvérise la pluie en brouillard.	27 It is he who makes the raindrops smal and pulverises the rain into mist.
28 Et les nuages déversent celle-ci, la font ruisseler sur la foule humaine.	28 And the clouds then pour this out, sending it streaming down on the human race.
29 Qui comprendra encore les déploiements de sa nuée, le grondement menaçant de sa tente?	29 And who can fathom how he spreads the clouds, or why such crashes thunder from his tent?
30 Il répand un brouillard devant lui, couvre les sommets des montagnes.	30 He spreads a mist before him and covers the tops of the mountains.
31 Par eux il sustente les peuples, leur donne la nourriture en abondance.	31 By these means, he sustains the peoples, giving them plenty to eat.
32 A pleines mains, il soulève l'éclair et lui fixe le but à atteindre.	32 He gathers up the lightning in his hands, assigning it the mark where to strike.
33 Son fracas en annonce la venue, la colère s'enflamme contre l'iniquité.	33 His crashing gives warning of its coming, anger flashes out against iniquity.
