| 1 Job répondit au Seigneur, et dit : | 1 Then Job answered the Lord, and said : |
| 2 Je sais que vous pouvez toutes choses, et qu'aucune pensée ne vous est cachée. | 2 I know that thou canst do all things, and no thought is hid from thee. |
| 3 Quel est ce qui obscurcit mes desseins sans rien savoir (Quel est celui qui, dans son manque d'intelligence, prétend cacher ses desseins à Dieu) ? En vérité, j'ai parlé follement de choses qui dépassaient de beaucoup ma science. | 3 Who is this that hideth counsel without knowledge? Therefore I have spoken unwisely, and things that above measure exceeded my knowledge. |
| 4 Ecoutez, et je parlerai ; je vous interrogerai, et répondez-moi. | 4 Hear, and I will speak : I will ask thee, and do thou tell me. |
| 5 Mon oreille avait entendu parler de vous, mais maintenant c'est monœil qui vous voit. | 5 With the hearing of the ear, I have heard thee, but now my eye seeth thee. |
| 6 C'est pourquoi je m'accuse moi-même, et je fais pénitence dans la poussière et dans la cendre. | 6 Therefore I reprehend myself, and do penance in dust and ashes. |
| 7 Lorsque le Seigneur eut adressé à Job ces paroles, il dit à Eliphaz de Théman : Ma fureur s'est allumée contre toi et contre tes deux amis, parce que vous n'avez pas parlé devant moi avec droiture, comme mon serviteur Job. | 7 And after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Themanite : My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends, because you have not spoken the thing that is right before my, as my servant Job hath. |
| 8 Prenez donc (avec vous) sept taureaux et sept béliers, et allez auprès de mon serviteur Job, et offrez pour vous un holocauste. (Or) Job mon serviteur priera pour vous ; je le recevrai favorablement, afin que cette folie (votre imprudence) ne vous soit pas imputée ; car vous ne m'avez pas parlé avec droiture comme mon serviteur Job. | 8 Take unto you therefore seven oxen, and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a holocaust : and my servant Job shall pray for you : his face I will accept, that folly be not imputed to you : for you have not spoken right things before me, as my servant Job hath. |
| 9 Eliphaz le Thémanite, Baldad le Suhite et Sophar le Naamathite s'en allèrent donc, et firent ce que le Seigneur leur avait dit, et le Seigneur reçut Job favorablement. | 9 So Eliphaz the Themanite, and Baldad the Suhite, and Sophar the Naamathite went, and did as the Lord had spoken to them, and the Lord accepted the face of Job. |
| 10 Le Seigneur se laissa aussi toucher par la pénitence de Job pendant qu'il priait pour ses amis, et il lui rendit le double de tout ce qu'il possédait auparavant. | 10 The Lord also was turned at the penance of Job, when he prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. |
| 11 (Alors) Tous ses frères, toutes ses sœurs et tous ceux qui l'avaient connu autrefois, vinrent auprès de lui et mangèrent avec lui (du pain) dans sa maison. Ils témoignèrent leur compassion pour (secouèrent la tête sur) lui, et ils le consolèrent de tout le mal que le Seigneur lui avait envoyé ; et ils donnèrent chacun une brebis et un pendant d'oreille en or. | 11 And all his brethren came to him, and all his sisters, and all that knew him before, and they ate bread with him in his house : and bemoaned him, and comforted him upon all the evil that God had brought upon him. And every man gave him one ewe, and one earring of fold. |
| 12 Quant au Seigneur, il bénit plus encore les dernières années de Job que les premières ; et il eut quatorze mille brebis, six mille chameaux, mille paires de bœufs et mille ânesses. | 12 And the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. And he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. |
| 13 Il eut aussi sept fils et trois filles. | 13 And he had seven sons, and three daughters. |
| 14 Et il nomma la première (il appela le nom de l'une) Jour, la seconde Casse, et la troisième Corne-d'antimoine (Cornustibie). | 14 And he called the names of one Dies, and the name of the second Cassia, and the name of the third Cornustibil. |
| 15 Il n'y eut pas dans toute la terre de femmes aussi belles que les filles de Job, et leur père leur donna une part d'héritage comme à leurs frères. | 15 And there were not found in all the earth women so beautiful as the daughters of Job : and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. |
| 16 Job vécut après cela cent quarante ans, et il vit ses fils et les fils de ses fils jusqu'à la quatrième génération, et il mourut âgé et plein de jours. | 16 And Job lived after these things, a hundred and forty years, and he saw his children, and his children's children, unto the fourth generation, and he died an old man, and full of days. |
