BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAIN
1 - Proverbi di Salomone figlio di David, re d'Israele;	1 The parables of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel,
2 per conoscere sapienza e disciplina, per capire i dettami della prudenza,	2 in order to know wisdom and discipline,
3 per apprendere amma estramento di dottrina, giustizia e giudizio e rettitudine;	3 to understand words of prudence, and to accept the instruction of doctrine, justice and judgment, and equity,
4 per conferire ai fanciulli avvedutezza e al giovane sapere e intelligenza.	4 so as to give discernment to little ones, knowledge and understanding to adolescents.
5 Il saggio che gli ascolta diventerà più saggio e l'intenditore possederà di che governarsi.	5 By listening, the wise shall become wiser and the intelligent shall possess governments.
6 Comprenderà il proverbio e l'interpretazione, le parole dei saggi e i loro enimmi.	6 He shall turn his soul to a parable and to its interpretation, to the words of the wise and their enigmas.
7 Il timore di Dio è il principio della sapienza; gli stolti disprezzano la sapienza e la dottrina.	7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The foolish despise wisdom as well as doctrine.
8 Ascolta, figliuolo, l'istruzione di tuo padre e non trascurare l'insegnamento di tua madre,	8 Listen, my son, to the discipline of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother,
9 se vuoi aggiungere grazia al tuo capo e ornamento al tuo collo.	9 so that grace may be added to your head and a collar to your neck.
10 Figliuolo, se i peccatori ti adescanonon dar retta a loro.	10 My son, if sinners should entice you, do not consent to them.
11 Se dicono: «Vieni con noi, insidiamo al sangue altrui, appostiamo insidie all'innocente che a nulla giova;	11 If they should say: “Come with us. We will lie in wait for blood. We will lay traps against the innocent, without cause.
12 sparisca, come inghiottito vivo nelle viscere della terra, tutto intero, come uno calato nella tomba;	12 Let us swallow him alive, like Hell, and whole, like one descending into the pit.
13 troveremo d'ogni sorta robe preziose, empiremo le nostre case di bottino;	13 We will discover every precious substance. We will fill our houses with spoils.
14 sorteggerai con noi anche tu la tua parte, faremo tutti borsa comune».	14 Cast your lot with us. One purse will be for us all.”
15 Figliuolo, non metterti con essi su questa via, vieta al tuo piede le loro strade,	15 My son, do not walk with them. Preclude your feet from their paths.
16 perchè corrono a gran passi verso il male e non tarderanno a spargere il sangue.	16 For their feet rush to evil, and they hurry to shed blood.
17 La rete si stende, ma indarno, sotto gli occhi dei pennuti uccelli!	17 But a net is thrown in vain before the eyes of those who have wings.
18 Ed essi pure tendono insidie, ma contro il proprio sangue, preparano frodi, ma a danno delle loro anime.	18 Likewise, they lie in ambush against their own blood, and they undertake deceits against their own souls.
19 Tali sono le vie degli uomini dati alla rapina, spogliano se stessi della propria vita.	19 Thus, the ways of all those who are greedy seize the souls of those who possess.
20 La Sapienza predica fuori, nelle piazze alza la sua voce;	20 Wisdom forewarns far and wide; she bestows her voice in the streets.
21 davanti alle turbe declama, alle soglie delle porte della città pronunzia le sue parole e dice:	21 She cries out at the head of crowds; at the entrance of the gates of the city, she offers her words, saying:
22 «E fino a quando, fanciulli, amerete la fanciullaggine e gli stolti brameranno cose a loro perniciose e gl'insensati odieranno la scienza?	22 “Little ones, how long will you choose to be childish, and how long will the foolish desire what is harmful to themselves, and how long will the imprudent hate knowledge?
23 Volgetevi a udire la mia esortazione: ecco ch'io effonderò in voi il mio spirito, vi farò manifeste le mie parole.	23 Be converted by my correction. Lo, I will offer my spirit to you, and I will reveal my words to you.
24 Perchè invitai e vi siete rifiutati, stesi la mano e nessuno prestò attenzione;	24 For I called, and you refused. I extended my hand, and there was no one who watched.
25 sdegnaste ogni mio consiglio e le mie ammonizioni avete trascurato;	25 You have despised all my counsels, and you have neglected my rebukes.
26 anch'io riderò della vostra rovina, me ne farò beffe, quando vi sorprenda ciò che temevate.	26 Similarly, I will ridicule you at your demise, and I will mock you, when that which you feared shall overcome you.
27 Quando la sventura improvvisa vi sorprenderà, e la rovina, come una tempesta v'incoglierà, al sopraggiungere della tribolazione e dell'angustia;	27 When sudden calamity rushes upon you, and your demise advances like a tempest, when tribulation and anguish overcome you,
28 allora m'invocheranno, ma io non darò ascolto, si desteranno premurosi per cercarmi, ma non mi troveranno;	28 then they will call to me, and I will not heed, they will arise in the morning, and not find me.
29 perchè ebbero in odio la disciplina, e non abbracciarono il timor di Dio,	29 For they held hatred for discipline, and they would not accept the fear of the Lord;
30 e al mio consiglio non hanno dato rettasprezzarono ogni mia correzione.	30 they would not consent to my counsel, but they detracted from all of my corrections.
31 Ebbene gusteranno il frutto della loro condotta, si pasceranno dei lor propri consigli.	31 Therefore, they shall eat the fruit of their way, and they shall have their fill of their own counsels.
32 L'avversione degl'insensati li farà perire, e la spensieratezza degli stolti li perderà;	32 The loathing of the little ones shall destroy them, and the prosperity of the foolish shall perish them.
33 ma chi darà ascolto a me, riposerà al sicuro e sarà nell'abbondanza, scevro di timore del male».	33 But whoever will listen to me shall rest without terror, and shall have full enjoyment of abundance, without fear of evils.”
