BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Proverbi di Salomone figlio di David, re d'Israele;	1 The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
2 per conoscere sapienza e disciplina, per capire i dettami della prudenza,	2 for learning what wisdom and discipline are, for understanding words of deep meaning,
3 per apprendere amma estramento di dottrina, giustizia e giudizio e rettitudine;	3 for acquiring a disciplined insight, uprightness, justice and fair dealing;
4 per conferire ai fanciulli avvedutezza e al giovane sapere e intelligenza.	4 for teaching sound judgement to the simple, and knowledge and reflection to the young;
5 Il saggio che gli ascolta diventerà più saggio e l'intenditore possederà di che governarsi.	5 Let the wise listen and learn yet more, and a person of discernment wil acquire the art of guidance.
6 Comprenderà il proverbio e l'interpretazione, le parole dei saggi e i loro enimmi.	6 for perceiving the meaning of proverbs and obscure sayings, the sayings of the sages and their riddles.
7 Il timore di Dio è il principio della sapienza; gli stolti disprezzano la sapienza e la dottrina.	7 The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; fools spurn wisdom and discipline.
8 Ascolta, figliuolo, l'istruzione di tuo padre e non trascurare l'insegnamento di tua madre,	8 Listen, my child, to your father's instruction, do not reject your mother's teaching:
9 se vuoi aggiungere grazia al tuo capo e ornamento al tuo collo.	9 they wil be a crown of grace for your head, a circlet for your neck.
10 Figliuolo, se i peccatori ti adescanonon dar retta a loro.	10 My child, if sinners try to seduce you, do not go with them.
11 Se dicono: «Vieni con noi, insidiamo al sangue altrui, appostiamo insidie all'innocente che a nulla giova;	11 If they say, 'Come with us: let us lie in ambush to shed blood; if we plan an ambush for the innocentwithout provocation,
12 sparisca, come inghiottito vivo nelle viscere della terra, tutto intero, come uno calato nella tomba;	12 we can swal ow them alive, like Sheol, and whole, like those who sink into oblivion.
13 troveremo d'ogni sorta robe preziose, empiremo le nostre case di bottino;	13 We shal find treasures of every sort, we shall fil our houses with plunder;
14 sorteggerai con noi anche tu la tua parte, faremo tutti borsa comune».	14 throw in your lot with us: one purse between us al .'
15 Figliuolo, non metterti con essi su questa via, vieta al tuo piede le loro strade,	15 My child, do not fol ow them in their way, keep your steps out of their path
16 perchè corrono a gran passi verso il male e non tarderanno a spargere il sangue.	16 for their feet hasten to evil, they are quick to shed blood;
17 La rete si stende, ma indarno, sotto gli occhi dei pennuti uccelli!	17 for the net is spread in vain if any winged creature can see it.
18 Ed essi pure tendono insidie, ma contro il proprio sangue, preparano frodi, ma a danno delle loro anime.	18 It is for their own blood such people lie in wait, their ambush is against their own selves!
19 Tali sono le vie degli uomini dati alla rapina, spogliano se stessi della propria vita.	19 Such are the paths of al who seek dishonest gain: which robs of their lives al who take it for their own.
20 La Sapienza predica fuori, nelle piazze alza la sua voce;	20 Wisdom cal s aloud in the streets, she raises her voice in the public squares;
21 davanti alle turbe declama, alle soglie delle porte della città pronunzia le sue parole e dice:	21 she cal s out at the street corners, she delivers her message at the city gates.
22 «E fino a quando, fanciulli, amerete la fanciullaggine e gli stolti brameranno cose a loro perniciose e gl'insensati odieranno la scienza?	22 'You simple people, how much longer will you cling to your simple ways? How much longer willmockers revel in their mocking and fools go on hating knowledge?
23 Volgetevi a udire la mia esortazione: ecco ch'io effonderò in voi il mio spirito, vi farò manifeste le mie parole.	23 Pay attention to my warning. To you I wil pour out my heart and tel you what I have to say.
24 Perchè invitai e vi siete rifiutati, stesi la mano e nessuno prestò attenzione;	24 Since I have cal ed and you have refused me, since I have beckoned and no one has taken notice,
25 sdegnaste ogni mio consiglio e le mie ammonizioni avete trascurato;	25 since you have ignored al my advice and rejected al my warnings,
26 anch'io riderò della vostra rovina, me ne farò beffe, quando vi sorprenda ciò che temevate.	26 I, for my part, shall laugh at your distress, I shal jeer when terror befal s you,
27 Quando la sventura improvvisa vi sorprenderà, e la rovina, come una tempesta v'incoglierà, al sopraggiungere della tribolazione e dell'angustia;	27 when terror befal s you, like a storm, when your distress arrives, like a whirlwind, when ordeal andanguish bear down on you.
28 allora m'invocheranno, ma io non darò ascolto, si desteranno premurosi per cercarmi, ma non mi troveranno;	28 Then they will cal me, but I shal not answer, they wil look eagerly for me and will not find me.
29 perchè ebbero in odio la disciplina, e non abbracciarono il timor di Dio,	29 They have hated knowledge, they have not chosen the fear of Yahweh,
30 e al mio consiglio non hanno dato rettasprezzarono ogni mia correzione.	30 they have taken no notice of my advice, they have spurned al my warnings:
31 Ebbene gusteranno il frutto della loro condotta, si pasceranno dei lor propri consigli.	31 so they wil have to eat the fruits of their own ways of life, and choke themselves with their ownscheming.
32 L'avversione degl'insensati li farà perire, e la spensieratezza degli stolti li perderà;	32 For the errors of the simple lead to their death, the complacency of fools works their own ruin;
33 ma chi darà ascolto a me, riposerà al sicuro e sarà nell'abbondanza, scevro di timore del male».	33 but whoever listens to me may live secure, will have quiet, fearing no mischance.'
