1 Then Sophar the Naamathite answered, and said:	1 Então respondendo Sofar de Naama, disse:
2 Shall not he that speaketh much, hear also? or shall a man full of talk be justified?	2 Porventura o que fala muito, não terá também de ouvir? Ou bastará a um homem ser grande falador para se justificar? A tua tagarelice calará os homens?
3 Shall men hold their peace to thee only? and when thou hast mocked others, shall no man confute thee?	3 Depois de zombares dos outros, ninguém te há-de confundir?
4 For thou hast said: My word is pure, and I am clean in thy sight.	4 Tu disseste (a Deus): "O que penso é verdadeiro, e eu estou limpo na tua presença."
5 And I wish that God would speak with thee, and would open his lips to thee,	5 Oxalá que Deus falasse contigo, e abrisse contigo os teus lábios,
6 That he might shew thee the secrets of wisdom, and that his law is manifold, and thou mightest understand that he exacteth much less of thee, than thy iniquity deserveth.	6 para te descobrir os segredos da sua sabedoria, e a multiplicidade da sua lei, com o que conhecerias que te castigue muito menos do que merece a tua maldade.
7 Peradventure thou wilt comprehend the steps of God, and wilt find out the Almighty perfectly?	7 Porventura alcançarás os caminhos de Deus, e conhecerás perfeitamente o Omnipotente?
8 He is higher than heaven, and what wilt thou do ? he is deeper than hell, and how wilt thou know?	8 Ele é mais alto do que o céu; que farás tu? Mais profundo do que o inferno; como conhecerás ?
9 The measure of him is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.	9 A sua medida é mais comprida que a terra, e mais larga que o mar.
10 If he shall overturn all things, or shall press them together, who shall contradict him?	10 Se ele acontecer, aprisionar e citar em juízo (o culpado), quem poderá impedi-lo?
11 For he knoweth the vanity of men, and when he seeth iniquity, doth he not consider it?	11 Porque ele conhece os perversos, vê a iniquidade, sem que ela dê conta.
12 A vain man is lifted up into pride, and thinketh himself born free like a wild ass's colt.	12 A' vista disto, mesmo um néscio entenderia, e um jumento andaria na razão.
13 Rut thou hast hardened thy heart, and hast spread thy hands to him.	13 Se voltares o teu coração para Deus, se ergueres a ele os teus braços,
14 If thou wilt put away from thee the iniquity that is in thy hand, and lot not injustice remain in thy tabernacle:	14 Se lançares fora de ti a iniquidade, que está em tuas mãos, Se a injustiça não tiver aceitação na tua casa,
15 Then mayst thou lift up thy face without spot, and thou shalt be steadfast, and shalt not fear.	15 então poderás levantar o teu rosto sem mácula, serás estável (na virtude) e não temerás.
16 Thou shalt also forget misery, and remember it only as waters that are passed away.	16 Então te esquecerás dos teus sofrimentos, lembrar-te-ás deles como de águas que passaram.
17 And brightness like that of the noonday, shall arise to thee at evening: and when thou shalt think thyself consumed, thou shalt rise as the day star.	17 E se levantará para ti o futuro, brilhante como o meio-dia, as trevas se mudarão em aurora.
18 And thou shalt have confidence, hope being set before thee, and being buried thou shalt sleep secure.	18 Terás confiança pela esperança (da vida eterna), que te será proposta, e, deitado, dormirás tranquilo.
19 Thou shalt rest, and there shall be none to make thee afraid: and many shall entreat thy face.	19 Repousarás, e não haverá quem te amedronte, e muitos suplicarão a tua face.
20 But the eyes of the wicked shall decay, and the way to escape shall fail them, and their hope the abomination of the soul.	20 Mas os olhos dos impios se consumirão; não lhes ficará refúgio (que os livre do castigo merecido), e a sua esperança será o último suspiro.
