| 1 Cuando se acercaban a Jerusalén, por Betfagé y Betania, junto al monte de los Olivos, mandó a dos de sus discípulos, | 1 And as they were approaching Jerusalem and Bethania, toward the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, |
| 2 diciéndoles: «Id a la aldea de enfrente y, en cuanto entréis, encontraréis un pollino atado, que nadie ha montado todavía. Desatadlo y traedlo. | 2 and he said to them: “Go into the village that is opposite you, and immediately upon entering there, you will find a colt tied, on which no man has yet sat. Release him and bring him. |
| 3 Y si alguien os pregunta por qué lo hacéis, contestadle: “El Señor lo necesita, y lo devolverá pronto”». | 3 And if anyone will say to you: ‘What are you doing?’ Say that the Lord has need of him. And he will immediately send him here.” |
| 4 Fueron y encontraron el pollino en la calle atado a una puerta; y lo soltaron. | 4 And going out, they found the colt tied before the outer gate, at the meeting of two ways. And they untied him. |
| 5 Algunos de los presentes les preguntaron: «¿Qué hacéis desatando el pollino?». | 5 And some of those who were standing there said to them, “What are you doing by releasing the colt?” |
| 6 Ellos les contestaron como había dicho Jesús; y se lo permitieron. | 6 And they spoke to them just as Jesus had instructed them. And they permitted them. |
| 7 Llevaron el pollino, le echaron encima los mantos, y Jesús se montó. | 7 And they led the colt to Jesus. And they placed their garments on it; and he sat upon it. |
| 8 Muchos alfombraron el camino con sus mantos, otros con ramas cortadas en el campo. | 8 Then many spread their garments along the way; but others cut down leafy branches from trees and scattered them on the way. |
| 9 Los que iban delante y detrás, gritaban: «¡Hosanna! ¡Bendito el que viene en nombre del Señor! | 9 And those who went ahead, and those who followed, cried out saying: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who has arrived in the name of the Lord. |
| 10 ¡Bendito el reino que llega, el de nuestro padre David! ¡Hosanna en las alturas!». | 10 Blessed is the advent of the kingdom of our father David. Hosanna in the highest!” |
| 11 Entró Jesús en Jerusalén, en el templo, lo estuvo observando todo y, como era ya tarde, salió hacia Betania con los Doce. | 11 And he entered into Jerusalem, into the temple. And having looked around at everything, since it was now the evening hour, he went out to Bethania with the twelve. |
| 12 Al día siguiente, cuando salían de Betania, sintió hambre. | 12 And the next day, as they were departing from Bethania, he was hungry. |
| 13 Vio de lejos una higuera con hojas, y se acercó para ver si encontraba algo; al llegar no encontró más que hojas, porque no era tiempo de higos. | 13 And when he had seen a fig tree with leaves in the distance, he went to it, in case he might find something on it. And when he had gone to it, he found nothing but leaves. For it was not the season for figs. |
| 14 Entonces le dijo: «Nunca jamás coma nadie frutos de ti». Los discípulos lo oyeron. | 14 And in response, he said to it, “From now on and forever, may no one eat fruit from you again!” And his disciples heard this. |
| 15 Llegaron a Jerusalén y, entrando en el templo, se puso a echar a los que vendían y compraban en el templo, volcando las mesas de los cambistas y los puestos de los que vendían palomas. | 15 And they went to Jerusalem. And when he had entered into the temple, he began to cast out the sellers and the buyers in the temple. And he overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the chairs of the vendors of doves. |
| 16 Y no consentía a nadie transportar objetos por el templo. | 16 And he would not permit anyone to carry goods through the temple. |
| 17 Y los instruía diciendo: «¿No está escrito: “Mi casa será casa de oración para todos los pueblos”? Vosotros en cambio la habéis convertido en cueva de bandidos». | 17 And he taught them, saying: “Is it not written: ‘For my house shall be called the house of prayer for all nations?’ But you have made it into a den of robbers.” |
| 18 Se enteraron los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas y, como le tenían miedo, porque todo el mundo admiraba su enseñanza, buscaban una manera de acabar con él. | 18 And when the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, had heard this, they sought a means by which they might destroy him. For they feared him, because the entire multitude was in admiration over his doctrine. |
| 19 Cuando atardeció, salieron de la ciudad. | 19 And when evening had arrived, he departed from the city. |
| 20 A la mañana siguiente, al pasar, vieron la higuera seca de raíz. | 20 And when they passed by in the morning, they saw that the fig tree had dried up from the roots. |
| 21 Pedro cayó en la cuenta y dijo a Jesús: «Maestro, mira, la higuera que maldijiste se ha secado». | 21 And Peter, remembering, said to him, “Master, behold, the fig tree that you cursed has withered.” |
| 22 Jesús contestó: «Tened fe en Dios. | 22 And in response, Jesus said to them: “Have the faith of God. |
| 23 En verdad os digo que si uno dice a este monte: “Quítate y arrójate al mar”, y no duda en su corazón, sino que cree en que sucederá lo que dice, lo obtendrá. | 23 Amen I say to you, that whoever will say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and who will not have hesitated in his heart, but will have believed: then whatever he has said be done, it shall be done for him. |
| 24 Por eso os digo: todo cuanto pidáis en la oración, creed que os lo han concedido y lo obtendréis. | 24 For this reason, I say to you, all things whatsoever that you ask for when praying: believe that you will receive them, and they will happen for you. |
| 25 Y cuando os pongáis a orar, perdonad lo que tengáis contra otros, para que también vuestro Padre del cielo os perdone vuestras culpas». | 25 And when you stand to pray, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your sins. |
| 26 [«Mas si vosotros no perdonáis, tampoco vuestro Padre que está en los cielos perdonará vuestras ofensas»] | 26 But if you will not forgive, neither will your Father, who is in heaven, forgive you your sins.” |
| 27 Volvieron a Jerusalén y, mientras paseaba por el templo, se le acercaron los sumos sacerdotes, los escribas y los ancianos, | 27 And they went again to Jerusalem. And when he was walking in the temple, the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, and the elders approached him. |
| 28 y le decían: «¿Con qué autoridad haces esto? ¿Quién te ha dado semejante autoridad para hacer esto?». | 28 And they said to him: “By what authority do you do these things? And who has given you this authority, so that you would do these things?” |
| 29 Jesús les replicó: «Os voy a hacer una pregunta y, si me contestáis, os diré con qué autoridad hago esto. | 29 But in response, Jesus said to them: “I also will ask you one word, and if you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I do these things. |
| 30 El bautismo de Juan ¿era del cielo o de los hombres? Contestadme». | 30 The baptism of John: was it from heaven or from men? Answer me.” |
| 31 Se pusieron a deliberar: «Si decimos que es del cielo, dirá: “¿Y por qué no le habéis creído?”. | 31 But they discussed it among themselves, saying: “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’ |
| 32 ¿Pero cómo vamos a decir que es de los hombres?». (Temían a la gente, porque todo el mundo estaba convencido de que Juan era un profeta). | 32 If we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the people. For they all hold that John was a true prophet.” |
| 33 Y respondieron a Jesús: «No sabemos». Jesús les replicó: «Pues tampoco yo os digo con qué autoridad hago esto». | 33 And answering, they said to Jesus, “We do not know.” And in response, Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.” |
