| 2 Como está escrito en el profeta Isaías: «Yo envío a mi mensajero delante de ti, el cual preparará tu camino; | 2 As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: "Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you; he will prepare your way. |
| 3 voz del que grita en el desierto: “Preparad el camino del Señor, enderezad sus senderos”»; | 3 A voice of one crying out in the desert: 'Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.'" |
| 4 se presentó Juan en el desierto bautizando y predicando un bautismo de conversión para el perdón de los pecados. | 4 John (the) Baptist appeared in the desert proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. |
| 5 Acudía a él toda la región de Judea y toda la gente de Jerusalén. Él los bautizaba en el río Jordán y confesaban sus pecados. | 5 People of the whole Judean countryside and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins. |
| 6 Juan iba vestido de piel de camello, con una correa de cuero a la cintura y se alimentaba de saltamontes y miel silvestre. | 6 John was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist. He fed on locusts and wild honey. |
| 7 Y proclamaba: «Detrás de mí viene el que es más fuerte que yo y no merezco agacharme para desatarle la correa de sus sandalias. | 7 And this is what he proclaimed: "One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. |
| 8 Yo os he bautizado con agua, pero él os bautizará con Espíritu Santo». | 8 I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the holy Spirit." |
| 9 Y sucedió que por aquellos días llegó Jesús desde Nazaret de Galilea y fue bautizado por Juan en el Jordán. | 9 It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. |
| 10 Apenas salió del agua, vio rasgarse los cielos y al Espíritu que bajaba hacia él como una paloma. | 10 On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. |
| 11 Se oyó una voz desde los cielos: «Tú eres mi Hijo amado, en ti me complazco». | 11 And a voice came from the heavens, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." |
| 12 A continuación, el Espíritu lo empujó al desierto. | 12 At once the Spirit drove him out into the desert, |
| 13 Se quedó en el desierto cuarenta días, siendo tentado por Satanás; vivía con las fieras y los ángeles lo servían. | 13 and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him. |
| 14 Después de que Juan fue entregado, Jesús se marchó a Galilea a proclamar el Evangelio de Dios; | 14 After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: |
| 15 decía: «Se ha cumplido el tiempo y está cerca el reino de Dios. Convertíos y creed en el Evangelio». | 15 "This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." |
| 16 Pasando junto al mar de Galilea, vio a Simón y a Andrés, el hermano de Simón, echando las redes en el mar, pues eran pescadores. | 16 As he passed by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets into the sea; they were fishermen. |
| 17 Jesús les dijo: «Venid en pos de mí y os haré pescadores de hombres». | 17 Jesus said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men." |
| 18 Inmediatamente dejaron las redes y lo siguieron. | 18 Then they abandoned their nets and followed him. |
| 19 Un poco más adelante vio a Santiago, el de Zebedeo, y a su hermano Juan, que estaban en la barca repasando las redes. | 19 He walked along a little farther and saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were in a boat mending their nets. |
| 20 A continuación los llamó, dejaron a su padre Zebedeo en la barca con los jornaleros y se marcharon en pos de él. | 20 Then he called them. So they left their father Zebedee in the boat along with the hired men and followed him. |
| 21 Y entran en Cafarnaún y, al sábado siguiente, entra en la sinagoga a enseñar; | 21 Then they came to Capernaum, and on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught. |
| 22 estaban asombrados de su enseñanza, porque les enseñaba con autoridad y no como los escribas. | 22 The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. |
| 23 Había precisamente en su sinagoga un hombre que tenía un espíritu inmundo y se puso a gritar: | 23 In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; |
| 24 «¿Qué tenemos que ver nosotros contigo, Jesús Nazareno? ¿Has venido a acabar con nosotros? Sé quién eres: el Santo de Dios». | 24 he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are--the Holy One of God!" |
| 25 Jesús lo increpó: «¡Cállate y sal de él!». | 25 Jesus rebuked him and said, "Quiet! Come out of him!" |
| 26 El espíritu inmundo lo retorció violentamente y, dando un grito muy fuerte, salió de él. | 26 The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him. |
| 27 Todos se preguntaron estupefactos: «¿Qué es esto? Una enseñanza nueva expuesta con autoridad. Incluso manda a los espíritus inmundos y lo obedecen». | 27 All were amazed and asked one another, "What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him." |
| 28 Su fama se extendió enseguida por todas partes, alcanzando la comarca entera de Galilea. | 28 His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee. |
| 29 Y enseguida, al salir ellos de la sinagoga, fue con Santiago y Juan a la casa de Simón y Andrés. | 29 On leaving the synagogue he entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. |
| 30 La suegra de Simón estaba en cama con fiebre, e inmediatamente le hablaron de ella. | 30 Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. |
| 31 Él se acercó, la cogió de la mano y la levantó. Se le pasó la fiebre y se puso a servirles. | 31 He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them. |
| 32 Al anochecer, cuando se puso el sol, le llevaron todos los enfermos y endemoniados. | 32 When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. |
| 33 La población entera se agolpaba a la puerta. | 33 The whole town was gathered at the door. |
| 34 Curó a muchos enfermos de diversos males y expulsó muchos demonios; y como los demonios lo conocían, no les permitía hablar. | 34 He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. |
| 35 Se levantó de madrugada, cuando todavía estaba muy oscuro, se marchó a un lugar solitario y allí se puso a orar. | 35 Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. |
| 36 Simón y sus compañeros fueron en su busca y, | 36 Simon and those who were with him pursued him |
| 37 al encontrarlo, le dijeron: «Todo el mundo te busca». | 37 and on finding him said, "Everyone is looking for you." |
| 38 Él les responde: «Vámonos a otra parte, a las aldeas cercanas, para predicar también allí; que para eso he salido». | 38 He told them, "Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come." |
| 39 Así recorrió toda Galilea, predicando en sus sinagogas y expulsando los demonios. | 39 So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee. |
| 40 Se le acerca un leproso, suplicándole de rodillas: «Si quieres, puedes limpiarme». | 40 A leper came to him (and kneeling down) begged him and said, "If you wish, you can make me clean." |
| 41 Compadecido, extendió la mano y lo tocó diciendo: «Quiero: queda limpio». | 41 Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, "I do will it. Be made clean." |
| 42 La lepra se le quitó inmediatamente y quedó limpio. | 42 The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean. |
| 43 Él lo despidió, encargándole severamente: | 43 Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once. |
| 44 «No se lo digas a nadie; pero para que conste, ve a presentarte al sacerdote y ofrece por tu purificación lo que mandó Moisés, para que les sirva de testimonio». | 44 Then he said to him, "See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them." |
| 45 Pero cuando se fue, empezó a pregonar bien alto y a divulgar el hecho, de modo que Jesús ya no podía entrar abiertamente en ningún pueblo; se quedaba fuera, en lugares solitarios; y aun así acudían a él de todas partes. | 45 The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere. |
