| 5 Ningún rey empezó de otro modo su existencia: | 5 For none of the kings had any other beginning of birth. |
| 6 la entrada y la salida de la vida son iguales para todos. | 6 Therefore, there is only one entrance for everyone into life, and the same in leaving. |
| 7 Por eso, supliqué y me fue dada la prudencia, | invoqué y vino a mí el espíritu de sabiduría. | 7 Because of this, I chose, and understanding was given to me; and I prayed, and the spirit of wisdom came to me; |
| 8 La preferí a cetros y tronos | y a su lado en nada tuve la riqueza. | 8 and I placed her before kingdoms and thrones, and I considered riches nothing in comparison with her. |
| 9 No la equiparé a la piedra más preciosa, | porque todo el oro ante ella es un poco de arena | y junto a ella la plata es como el barro. | 9 Neither did I compare to her a precious stone, for all gold in comparison with her is like a little sand, and silver, in view of her, will be valued as if dirt. |
| 10 La quise más que a la salud y la belleza | y la preferí a la misma luz, | porque su resplandor no tiene ocaso. | 10 I loved her above health and beauty, and I placed having her before light, for her light is unfailing. |
| 11 Con ella me vinieron todos los bienes juntos, | tiene en sus manos riquezas incontables. | 11 Yet all good things came to me together with her, and innumerable honors by her hand; |
| 12 Disfruté de todos, porque la sabiduría los trae, | aunque yo ignoraba que ella era su madre. | 12 and I rejoiced in all these, because this wisdom went before me, although I did not know that she is the mother of them all. |
| 13 Sin engaño la aprendí, sin envidia la comparto | y no escondo sus riquezas; | 13 This I have learned without falsehood and communicate without envy, and her integrity I do not hide. |
| 14 porque es un tesoro inagotable para los hombres: | los que lo adquieren se ganan la amistad de Dios, | pues los dones de la instrucción los recomienda. | 14 Indeed, she is an infinite treasure chest for men, and those who make use of it, become partakers in the friendship of God, because they are recommended by the gifts of instruction. |
| 15 Que Dios me conceda hablar con conocimiento | y tener pensamientos dignos de sus dones, | porque él es el mentor de la sabiduría | y el adalid de los sabios. | 15 Yet God has given to me to speak my mind, and to conceive thoughts worthy of those things that are given to me, because he is the leader of wisdom and the repairer of understanding. |
| 16 En sus manos estamos nosotros y nuestras palabras, | toda prudencia y toda inteligencia práctica. | 16 For in his hand are both we, and our words, and all wisdom, and the works of science, and instruction. |
| 17 Él me concedió la verdadera ciencia de los seres, | para conocer la estructura del cosmos y las propiedades de los elementos, | 17 For he has given me true knowledge of these things which exist: so as to know the orderly arrangement of the world, and the powers of the elements, |
| 18 el principio, el fin y el medio de los tiempos, | la alternancia de los solsticios y la sucesión de las estaciones, | 18 the beginning and the end and the midpoint of the seasons, the characteristics of changing things, and the divisions of time, |
| 19 los ciclos del año y la posición de las estrellas, | 19 the courses of the years, and the orderly arrangement of the stars, |
| 20 la naturaleza de los animales y el instinto de las fieras, | el poder de los espíritus y los pensamientos de los hombres, | las variedades de las plantas y las virtudes de las raíces. | 20 the natures of animals, and the rage of wild beasts, the force of winds, and the reasonings of men, the diversities of plants, and the benefits of roots, |
| 21 He llegado a conocerlo todo, lo oculto y lo manifiesto, | porque la sabiduría, artífice de todo, me lo enseñó. | 21 and all such things as are hidden and unexpected, I have learned; for wisdom, the artisan of all things, taught me. |
| 22 La sabiduría posee un espíritu inteligente, santo, | único, múltiple, sutil, ágil, penetrante, inmaculado, | diáfano, invulnerable, amante del bien, agudo, | 22 For in her is the spirit of understanding: holy, singular, manifold, subtle, perceptive, lively, chaste, reliable, gracious, loving, good, astute, who forbids nothing beneficial, |
| 23 incoercible, benéfico, amigo de los hombres, | firme, seguro, sin inquietudes, | que todo lo puede, todo lo observa, | y penetra todos los espíritus, | los inteligentes, los puros, los más sutiles. | 23 humane, kind, steadfast, trustworthy, secure, having all virtue, watching for all things and grasping all things with a pure and most delicate understanding of spirit. |
| 24 La sabiduría es más móvil que cualquier movimiento | y en virtud de su pureza lo atraviesa y lo penetra todo. | 24 For wisdom is more active than all active things, yet she reaches everywhere because of her purity. |
| 25 Es efluvio del poder de Dios, | emanación pura de la gloria del Omnipotente; | por eso, nada manchado la alcanza. | 25 For she is a breath of the virtue of God and a genuine emanation from the purity of the almighty God, and therefore nothing unclean can invade her. |
| 26 Es irradiación de la luz eterna, | espejo límpido de la actividad de Dios | e imagen de su bondad. | 26 Indeed, she is the brightness of eternal light, and the unspotted mirror of the majesty of God, and the image of his goodness. |
| 27 Aun siendo una sola, todo lo puede; | sin salir de sí misma, todo lo renueva | y, entrando en las almas buenas de cada generación, | va haciendo amigos de Dios y profetas. | 27 And though she is one, she can do all things; and, unchanging in herself, she renews all things, and throughout the nations she conveys herself to holy souls, establishing them as friends and prophets of God. |
| 28 Pues Dios solo ama a quien convive con la sabiduría. | 28 For God loves none but those who dwell with wisdom. |
| 29 Ella es más bella que el sol | y supera a todas las constelaciones. | Comparada con la luz del día, sale vencedora, | | 29 For she is more spectacular than the sun, and above the array of all the stars; compared with the light, she is found to be before it. |
| 30 porque la luz deja paso a la noche, | mientras que a la sabiduría no la domina el mal. | 30 Indeed, after her comes night, but wisdom will not be overcome by malice. |
