1 Samuel 14

1 Un día, Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, dijo a su escudero: «Ven, vamos a cruzar hasta la avanzadilla de los filisteos que están en este paso», pero nada dijo a su padre.	1 Now it came to pass one day that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man that bore his armour: Come, and let us go over to the garrison of the Philistines, which is on the other side of yonder place. But he told not this to his father.
2 Saúl estaba situado en el límite de Gueba, bajo el granado que está cerca de la era, y las gentes que estaban con él eran como unos seiscientos hombres.	2 And Saul abode in the uttermost part of Gabaa under the pomegranate tree, which was in Magron: and the people with him were about six hundred men.
3 Ajías, hijo de Ajitub, hermano de Ikabod, hijo de Pinjás, hijo de Elí, sacerdote de Yahveh en Silo, llevaba el efod. La tropa no advirtió que Jonatán se había marchado.	3 And Achias the son of Achitob brother to Ichabod the son of Phinees, the son of Heli the priest of the Lord in Silo, wore the ephod. And the people knew not whither Jonathan was gone.
4 En el paso que Jonatán intentaba franquear para llegar a la avanzadilla de los filisteos, hay un picacho por un lado y un picacho por el otro. Uno se llama Boses y el otro Senné;	4 Now there were between the ascents, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the garrison of the Philistines, rocks standing up on both sides, and steep cliffs like teeth on the one side, and on the other, the name of the one was Boses, and the name of the other was Sene:
5 el primer picacho está al norte, frente a Mikmás, el segundo al sur, frente a Gueba.	5 One rock stood out towards the north over against Machmas, and the other to the south over against Gabaa.
6 Jonatán dijo a su escudero: «Ven, crucemos hasta la avanzadilla de esos incircuncisos. Acaso Yahveh haga algo por nosotros, porque nada impide a Yahveh dar la victoria con pocos o con muchos».	6 And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armour: Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised, it may be the Lord will do for us, because it is easy for the Lord to save either by many, or by few.
7 Su escudero respondió: «Haz todo lo que tu corazón te dicte. Por mi parte estoy contigo, a tu voluntad».	7 And his armourbearer said to him: Do all that pleaseth thy mind: go whither thou wilt, and I will be with thee wheresoever thou hast a mind.
8 Jonatán dijo: «Vamos a pasar hacia esa gente y nos haremos ver de ellos.	8 And Jonathan said: Behold we will go over to these men. And when we shall be seen by them,
9 Si nos dicen: “¡Alto ahí! hasta que lleguemos a vosotros”, nos quedaremos en el sitio y no subiremos a ellos.	9 If they shall speak thus to us: Stay till we come to you: let us stand still in our place, and not go up to them.
10 Pero si nos dicen: “Subid hacia nosotros,” subiremos, porque Yahveh los ha entregado en nuestras manos; esto nos servirá de señal».	10 But if they shall say: Come up to us: let us go up, because the Lord hath delivered them into our hands, this shall be a sign unto us.
11 Cuando se dejaron ver de la avanzadilla de los filisteos, éstos dijeron: «Mirad los hebreos que salen de los escondrijos donde se habían metido».	11 So both of them discovered themselves to the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said: Behold the Hebrews come forth out of the holes wherein they were hid.
12 Y la gente de la avanzadilla, dirigiéndose a Jonatán y a su escudero, dijeron: «Subid hacia nosotros, que os vamos a enseñar algo». Entonces Jonatán dijo a su escudero: «Sube detrás de mí, pues Yahveh los ha entregado en manos de Israel».	12 And the men of the garrison spoke to Jonathan, and to his armourbearer, and said: Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said to his armourbearer: Let us go up, follow me: for the Lord hath delivered them into the hands of I srael.
13 Subió Jonatán ayudándose de pies y manos, y su escudero le seguía. Caían los filisteos ante Jonatán y detrás de él su escudero los iba rematando.	13 And Jonathan went up creeping on his hands and feet, and his armourbearer after him. And some fell before Jonathan, others his armourbearer slew as he followed him.
14 Este primer estrago que hicieron Jonatán y su escudero fue de una veintena de hombres...	14 And the first slaughter which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was of about twenty men, within half an acre of land, which a yoke of oxen is wont to plough in a day.
15 Cundió el terror en el campo y en el campamento y en la gente toda; la avanzadilla y los cuerpos de descubierta fueron presa del espanto, la tierra tembló y hubo un terror de Dios.	15 And there was a miracle in the camp, through the fields: yea and all the people of their garrison, who had gone out to plunder, were amazed, and the earth trembled: and it happened as a miracle from God.
16 Los escuchas de Saúl que estaban en Gueba de Benjamín vieron que el campamento se agitaba de un lado para otro,	16 And the watchmen of Saul, who were in Gabaa of Benjamin looked, and behold a multitude overthrown, and fleeing this way and that.
17 y Saúl dijo a las tropas que estaban con él: «Pasad revista y ved quién se ha marchado de los nuestros». Se pasó revista y vieron que faltaban Jonatán y su escudero.	17 And Saul said to the people that were with him: Look, and see who is gone from us. And when they had sought, it was found that Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.
18 Entonces Saúl dijo a Ajías: «Trae el efod», porque este era el que llevaba el efod en presencia de Israel.	18 And Saul said to Achias: Bring the ark of the Lord. (For the ark of God was there that day with the children of Israel.)
19 Pero mientras Saúl hablaba al sacerdote, el tumulto del campamento filisteo iba creciendo y Saúl dijo al sacerdote: «Retira tu mano».	19 And while Saul spoke to the priest, there arose a great uproar in the camp of the Philistines: and it increased by degrees, and was heard more clearly. And Saul said to the priest: Draw in thy hand.
20 Saúl y toda la tropa que estaba con él se reunieron y llegaron al campo de batalla, y he aquí que la espada de cada uno se volvía contra el otro, ¡un enorme desconcierto!	20 Then Saul and all the people that were with him, shouted together, and they came to the place of the fight: and behold every man's sword was turned upon his neighbour, and there was a very great slaughter.
21 Los hebreos que de antes estaban al servicio de los filisteos y que habían subido con ellos al campamento, también desertaron y se pasaron a los israelitas que estaban con Saúl y Jonatán.	21 Moreover the Hebrews that had been with the Philistines yesterday and the day before, and went up with them into the camp, returned to be with the Israelites, who were with Saul and Jonathan.
22 Todos los israelitas que se habían escondido en la montaña de Efraím, al saber que los filisteos huían, los persiguieron hostigándolos.	22 And all the Israelites that had hid themselves in mount Ephraim, hearing that the Philistines fled, joined themselves with their countrymen in the fight. And there were with Saul about ten thousand men.
23 Aquel día Yahveh dio la victoria a Israel. El combate se extendió más allá de Bet Jorón.	23 And the Lord saved Israel that day. And the fight went on as far as Bethaven.
24 Los hombres de Israel estaban en gran apuro aquel día y Saúl pronunció una imprecación sobre el pueblo: «Maldito el hombre que coma algo antes del anochecer, antes que me haya vengado de mis enemigos». Y nadie del pueblo probó bocado.	24 And the men of Israel were joined together that day; and Saul adjured the people, saying: Cursed be the man that shall eat food till evening, till I be revenged of my enemies. So none of the people tasted any food:
25 Había, pues, un panal de miel por el suelo,	25 And all the common people came into a forest, in which there was honey upon the ground.
26 y el pueblo llegó al panal cuando la miel estaba destilando, pero nadie se llevó la mano a su boca, porque el pueblo temía la imprecación.	26 And when the people came into the forest, behold the honey dropped, but no man put his hand to his mouth. For the people feared the oath.
27 Jonatán no había oído la imprecación que su padre había pronunciado sobre el pueblo y alargó la punta de la vara que tenía en la mano, la metió en el panal y después llevó la mano a su boca y le brillaron los ojos.	27 But Jonathan had not heard when his father adjured the people: and he put forth the end of the rod, which he had in his hand, and dipt it in a honeycomb: and he carried his hand to his mouth, and his eyes were enlightened.
28 Uno del pueblo le habló diciendo: «Tu padre ha pronunciado solemnemente esta imprecación sobre el pueblo; ha dicho “Maldito el hombre que coma hoy algo.”»	28 And one of the people answering, said: Thy father hath bound the people with an oath, saying: Cursed be the man that shall eat any food this day. (And the people were faint.)
29 Jonatán respondió: «Mi padre ha causado un trastorno al país. Ved cómo tengo los ojos más brillantes por haber tomado este poco de miel.	29 And Jonathan said: My father hath troubled the land: you have seen yourselves that my eyes are enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey:
30 Pues si la tropa hubiese comido hoy del botín tomado al enemigo ¿no hubiera sido mayor el estrago de los filisteos?»	30 How much more if the people had eaten of the prey of their enemies, which they found? had there not been made a greater slaughter among the Philistines?
31 Aquel día fueron batidos los filisteos desde Mikmás hasta Ayyalón y la gente quedó extenuada.	31 So they smote that day the Philistines from Machmas to Ailon. And the people were wearied exceedingly.
32 La tropa se arrojó sobre el botín y tomando ganado menor, bueyes y terneros, los immoló sobre el suelo y lo comieron con la sangre.	32 And falling upon the spoils, they took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground: and the people ate them with the blood.
33 Avisaron a Saúl: «El pueblo está pecando contra Yahveh comiendo la sangre». El entonces dijo: «Habéis sido infieles. Rodadme hasta aquí una piedra grande».	33 And they told Saul that the people had sinned against the Lord, eating with the blood. And he said: You have transgressed: roll here to me now a great stone.
34 Luego dijo: «Repartíos entre el pueblo y decidles: que cada uno traiga su buey o su carnero; los immolaréis aquí y comeréis, sin pecar contra Yahveh por comerlo con sangre». Todos los hombres llevaron cada cual lo que tenía aquella noche y lo immolaron allí.	34 And Saul said: Disperse yourselves among the people, and tell them to bring me every man his ox and his ram, and slay them upon this stone, and eat, and you shall not sin against the Lord in eating with the blood. So all the people brought every man his ox with him till the night: and slew them there.
35 Alzó Saúl un altar a Yahveh; este fue el primer altar que edificó.	35 And Saul built an altar to the Lord and he then first began to build an altar to the Lord.
36 Saúl dijo: «Bajemos durante la noche en persecución de los filisteos y saqueémoslos hasta el amanecer; no dejaremos ni un solo hombre». Le respondieron: «Haz lo que mejor te parezca». Pero el sacerdote dijo: «Acerquémonos aquí a Dios».	36 And Saul said: Let us fall upon the Philistines by night, and destroy them till the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And the people said: Do all that seemeth good in thy eyes. And the priest said: Let us draw near hither unto God.
37 Consultó Saúl a Dios: «¿Bajaré en persecución de los filisteos? ¿Los entregarás en manos de Israel?» Pero no respondió en aquella ocasión.	37 And Saul consulted the Lord: Shall I pursue after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hands of Israel? And he answered him not that day.
38 Entonces dijo Saúl: «Acercaos aquí todos los principales del pueblo. Investigad en qué ha consistido el pecado de hoy.	38 And Saul said: Bring hither all the corners of the people: and know, and see by whom this sin hath happened to day.
39 ¡Vive Yahveh! que ha salvado a Israel, que aunque se trate de mi hijo Jonatán, morirá sin remisión». Nadie del pueblo se atrevió a responderle.	39 As the Lord liveth who is the saviour of Israel, if it was done by Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. In this none of the people gainsaid him.
40 Dijo a todo Israel: «Poneos a un lado, y yo y mi hijo Jonatán nos pondremos al otro», y el pueblo respondió a Saúl: «Haz lo que mejor te parezca».	40 And he said to all Israel: Be you on one side, and I with Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people answered Saul: Do what seemeth good in thy eyes.
41 Dijo entonces Saúl: «Yahveh Dios de Israel, ¿por qué no respondes hoy a tu siervo? Si el pecado es mío o de mi hijo Jonatán, Yahveh Dios de Israel, da urim; si el pecado es de tu pueblo Israel, da tummim». Fueron señalado Saúl y Jonatán, quedando libre el pueblo.	41 And Saul said to the Lord: O Lord God of Israel, give a sign, by which we may know, what the meaning is, that thou answerest not thy servant to day. If this iniquity be in me, or in my son Jonathan, give a proof: or if this iniquity be in thy people, give holiness. And Jonathan and Saul were taken, and the people escaped.
42 Saúl dijo: «Sortead entre mi hijo Jonatán y yo»; y fue señalado Jonatán.	42 And Saul said: Cast lots between me, and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.
43 Dijo entonces Saúl a Jonatán: «Cuéntame lo que has hecho». Jonatán respondió: «No he hecho más que probar un poco de miel con la punta de la vara que tenía en la mano. Estoy dispuesto a morir».	43 And Saul said to Jonathan: Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said: I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod, which was in my hand, and behold I must die.
44 Saúl replicó: «Que Dios me haga esto y me añada esto otro si no mueres, Jonatán».	44 And Saul said: May God do so and so to me, and add still more: for dying thou shalt die, O Jonathan.
45 Pero el pueblo dijo a Saúl: «¿Es que va a morir Jonatán siendo él quien ha conseguido esta gran victoria en Israel? ¡Dios nos libre! ¡Vive Yahveh! que no caerá en tierra ni un cabello de su cabeza, porque con ayuda de Dios lo hizo». Así rescató el pueblo a Jonatán y no murió.	45 And the people said to Saul: Shall Jonathan then die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? This must not be. As the Lord liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people delivered Jonathan, that he should not die.
46 Regresó Saúl de la persecución de los filisteos y los filisteos alcanzaron su país.	46 And Saul went back, and did not pursue after the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own places.
47 Cuando Saúl se constituyó rey sobre Israel guerreó por todas partes contre todos sus enemigos: contra Moab, los ammonitas, Edom, el rey de Sobá y los filisteos; doquiera se dirigía resultaba vencedor.	47 And Saul having his kingdom established over Israel, fought against all his enemies round about, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and Edom, and the kings of Soba, and the Philistines; and whithersoever he turned himself, he overcame.
48 Hizo proezas de valor, batió a los amalecitas y libró a Israel del poder de los que le saqueaban.	48 And gathering together an army, he defeated Amalec, and delivered Israel from the hand of them that spoiled them.
49 Los hijos de Saúl fueron: Jonatán, Isyó y Malki Súa. Los nombres de sus dos hijas eran: Merab la mayor y Mikal la más pequeña.	49 And the sons of Saul, were Jonathan, and Jessui, and Melchisua: and the names of his two daughters, the name of the firstborn was Merob, and the name of the younger Michol.
50 La mujer de Saúl se llamaba Ajinoam, hija de Ajimaas. El jefe de su ejército se llamaba Abner, hijo de Ner, tío de Saúl:	50 And the name of Saul's wife, was Achinoam the daughter of Achimaas; and the name of the captain of his army was Abner, the son of Ner, the cousin german of Saul.
51 Quis, padre de Saúl, y Ner, padre de Abner, eran hijos de Abiel.	51 For Cis was the father of Saul, and Ner the father of Abner, was son of Abiel.
52 Hubo una guerra encarnizada contra los filisteos toda la vida de Saúl. En cuanto Saúl veía un hombre fuerte y valeroso, se lo incorporaba.	52 And there was a great war against the Philistines all the days of Saul. For whomsoever Saul saw to be a valiant man, and fit for war, he took him to himself.
