Josué 22

1 Josué convocó a los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la media tribu de Manasés,	1 At that time Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh
2 y les dijo: «Habéis cumplido todo lo que os mandó Moisés, siervo de Yahveh, y habéis atendido a mis órdenes siempre que os he mandado algo.	2 and said to them: "You have done all that Moses, the servant of the LORD, commanded you, and have obeyed every command I gave you.
3 No habéis abandonado a vuestros hermanos durante tan largo tiempo hasta el día de hoy; habéis cumplido la orden que os encomendó Yahveh vuestro Dios.	3 For many years now you have not once abandoned your kinsmen, but have faithfully carried out the commands of the LORD, your God.
4 Ahora Yahveh vuestro Dios ha dado a vuestros hermnaos el descanso que les había prometido. Volveos, pues, e id a vuestras tiendas, a la tierra de vuestra propiedad, la que os dio Moisés, siervo de Yahveh, al otro lado del Jordán.	4 Since, therefore, the LORD, your God, has settled your kinsmen as he promised them, you may now return to your tents beyond the Jordan; to your own land, which Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave you.
5 Unicamente preocupaos de guardar el mandato y la Ley que os dio Moisés, siervo de Yahveh: que améis a Yahveh vuestro Dios, que sigáis siempre sus caminos, que guardéis sus mandamientos y os mantengáis unidos a él y le sirváis con todo vuestro corazón y con toda vuestra alma».	5 But be very careful to observe the precept and law which Moses, the servant of the LORD, enjoined upon you: love the LORD, your God; follow him faithfully; keep his commandments; remain loyal to him; and serve him with your whole heart and soul."
6 Josué los bendijo y los despidió, y ellos se fueron a sus tiendas.	6 Joshua then blessed them and sent them away to their own tents.
7 Moisés había dado a la media tribu de Manasés su parte en Basán; a la otra media se la dio Josué entre sus hermanos, al lado occidental del Jordán. Cuando los mandó Josué a sus tiendas, les dio la bendición	7 (For, to half the tribe of Manasseh Moses had assigned land in Bashan; and to the other half Joshua had given a portion along with their kinsmen west of the Jordan.) What Joshua said to them when he sent them off to their tents with his blessing was,
8 y les dijo: «Volvéis a vuestras tiendas con grandes riquezas, rebaños numerosos, plata, oro, bronce, hierro y gran cantidad de vestidos; repartid con vuestros hermanos el botín de vuestros enemigos».	8 "Now that you are returning to your own tents with great wealth, with very numerous livestock, with silver, gold, bronze and iron, and with a very large supply of clothing, divide these spoils of your enemies with your kinsmen there."
9 Los rubenitas y los gaditas, con la media tribu de Manasés, se volvieron y dejaron a los israelitas en Silo, en la tierra de Canaán, para volver a la tierra de Galaad, tierra de su propiedad donde se habían establecido según la orden de Yahveh dada por medio de Moisés.	9 So the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh left the other Israelites at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and returned to the land of Gilead, their own property, which they had received according to the LORD'S command through Moses.
10 Cuando llegaron a los circulos de piedras del Jordán, en tierra de Canaán, los rubenitas y los gaditas y la media tribu de Manasés levantaron allí un altar a orillas del Jordán, un altar de grandioso aspecto.	10 When the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh came to the region of the Jordan in the land of Canaan, they built there at the Jordan a conspicuously large altar.
11 Se enteraron los israelitas y dijeron: «Mirad, los rubenitas, los gaditas y la media tribu de Manasés han levantado ese altar, frente al país de Canaán, junto a los círculos de piedras del Jordán, del lado de los israelitas».	11 The other Israelites heard the report that the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had built an altar in the region of the Jordan facing the land of Canaan, across from them,
12 Al oír esto los israelitas, se reunió en Silo toda la comunidad de los israelitas para hacerles guerra.	12 and therefore they assembled their whole community at Shiloh to declare war on them.
13 Los israelitas enviaron donde los rubenitas, los gaditas y la media tribu de Manasés, al país de Galaad, al sacerdote Pinjás, hijo de Eleazar	13 First, however, they sent to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead an embassy consisting of Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest,
14 y a diez principales con él, un principal por cada familia, por cada tribu de Israel: cada uno de ellos era cabeza de su familia en los clanes de Israel.	14 and ten princes, one from every tribe of Israel, each one being both prince and military leader of his ancestral house.
15 Cuando llegaron donde los rubenitas, los rubenitas, los gaditas y la media tribu de Manasés, al país de Galaad, les hablaron así:	15 When these came to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh in the land of Gilead, they said to them:
16 «Esto ha dicho toda la comunidad de Yahveh: ¿Qué significa esa prevaricación que habéis cometido contra el Dios de Israel, apartándoos hoy de Yahveh, al construiros un altar, rebelándoos hoy contra Yahveh?	16 "The whole community of the LORD sends this message: What act of treachery is this you have committed against the God of Israel? You have seceded from the LORD this day, and rebelled against him by building an altar of your own!
17 «¿No teníamos bastante con el crimen de Peor, del que hoy todavía no hemos acabado de purificarnos, a pesar de que vino la plaga sobre la comunidad de Yahveh?	17 For the sin of Peor, a plague came upon the community of the LORD.
18 Si vosotros hoy os apartáis de Yahveh, hoy os rebeláis vosotros contra Yahveh, y mañana se encenderá él contra toda la comunidad de Israel.	18 We are still not free of that; must you now add to it? You are rebelling against the LORD today and by tomorrow he will be angry with the whole community of Israel!
19 «Ahora bien, si nos parece impura vuestra propiedad, pasad a la tierra de propiedad de Yahveh, donde ha fijado su morada, y estableceos entre nosotros. Pero no os rebeléis contra Yahveh, ni nos arrastréis en vuestra rebeldía al construiros un altar aparte del altar de Yahveh nuestro Dios.	19 If you consider the land you now possess unclean, cross over to the land the LORD possesses, where the Dwelling of the LORD stands, and share that with us. But do not rebel against the LORD, nor involve us in rebellion, by building an altar of your own in addition to the altar of the LORD, our God.
20 ¿No prevaricó Akán, hijo de Zéraj, en el anatema, y la Coléra alcanzó a toda la comunidad de Israel, aunque él no era más que un solo individuo? ¿No murió por su crimen?»	20 When Achan, son of Zerah, violated the ban, did not wrath fall upon the entire community of Israel? Though he was but a single man, he did not perish alone for his guilt!"
21 Respondieron los rubenitas, los gaditas y la media tribu de Manasés y dijeron a los jefes de los clanes de Israel:	21 The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh replied to the military leaders of the Israelites: "The LORD is the God of gods.
22 «El Dios de los dioses, Yahveh, el Dios de los dioses, Yahveh, lo sabe bien, y que lo sepa también Israel: si ha habido por nuestra parte rebelión o prevaricación contra Yahveh, que no nos salve hoy;	22 The LORD, the God of gods, knows and Israel shall know. If now we have acted out of rebellion or treachery against the LORD, our God,
23 y si hemos levantado un altar para apartarnos de Yahveh y para ofrecer en él holocausto y oblación o para hacer sobre él sacrificios de comunión, que Yahveh nos lo demande.	23 and if we have built an altar of our own to secede from the LORD, or to offer holocausts, grain offerings or peace offerings upon it, the LORD himself will exact the penalty.
24 En verdad, lo hemos hecho así por preocupación y razonadamente, diciéndonos: El día de mañana podrían decir vuestros hijos a los nuestros: “¿Qué tenéis que ver vosotros con Yahveh el Dios de Israel?	24 We did it rather out of our anxious concern lest in the future your children should say to our children: 'What have you to do with the LORD, the God of Israel?
25 Yahveh ha puesto entre nosotros y vosotros, rubenitas y gaditas, la frontera del Jordán. No tenéis parte con Yahveh.” Así vuestros hijos harían que nuestros hijos dejaran de temer a Yahveh.	25 For the LORD has placed the Jordan as a boundary between you and us. You descendants of Reuben and Gad have no share in the LORD.' Thus your children would prevent ours from revering the LORD.
26 «Y nos hemos dicho: Vamos a construir este altar, pero no para holocaustos, ni sacrificios,	26 So we decided to guard our interests by building this altar of our own: not for holocausts or for sacrifices,
27 sino para que sea testigo entre nosotros y vosotros y entre nuestros descendientes después de nosotros, de que rendimos culto a Yahveh en su presencia con nuestros holocaustos, nuestras víctimas y nuestros sacrificios de comunión. Así no podrán decir mañana vuestros hijos a los nuestros: “No tenéis parte con Yahveh.”	27 but as evidence for you on behalf of ourselves and our descendants, that we have the right to worship the LORD in his presence with our holocausts, sacrifices, and peace offerings. Now in the future your children cannot say to our children, 'You have no share in the LORD.'
28 No hemos dicho: Si llega a suceder que nos hablen así a nosotros o el día de mañana a nuestros descendientes, les podremos responder: “Mirad la edificación del altar de Yahveh que hicieron nuestros padres, no para ofrecer holocaustos ni sacrificios, sino como testigo entre nosotros y vosotros.”	28 Our thought was, that if in the future they should speak thus to us or to our descendants, we could answer: 'Look at the model of the altar of the LORD which our fathers made, not for holocausts or for sacrifices, but to witness between you and us.'
29 Lejos de nosotros rebelarnos contra Yahveh y desertar hoy de su servicio, levantando, para ofrecer en él holocaustos, oblaciones o sacrificios, un altar aparte del altar de Yahveh nuestro Dios erigido delante de su morada».	29 Far be it from us to rebel against the LORD or to secede now from the LORD by building an altar for holocaust, grain offering, or sacrifice in addition to the altar of the LORD, our God, which stands before his Dwelling."
30 Cuando el sacerdote Pinjás, los principales de la comunidad y los jefes de los clanes de Israel que le acompañaban, oyeron las palabras pronunciadas por los gaditas, los rubenitas y los manasitas, les pareció bien.	30 When Phinehas the priest and the princes of the community, the military leaders of the Israelites, heard what the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites had to say, they were satisfied.
31 Y el sacerdote Pinjás, hijo de Eleazar, dijo a los rubenitas, los gaditas y los manasitas: «Ahora reconocemos que Yahveh está en medio de nosotros, pues no habéis cometido tan grande prevaricación contra él. Así habéis salvado a los israelitas de la mano de Yahveh».	31 Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, said to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the Manassehites, "Now we know that the LORD is with us. Since you have not committed this act of treachery against the LORD, you have kept the Israelites free from punishment by the LORD."
32 El sacerdote Pinjás, hijo de Eleazar, y los principales, dejando a los rubenitas y a los gaditas, volvieron del país de Galaad al de Canaán, a donde los israelitas, y les dieron la respuesta.	32 Phinehas, son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes returned from the Reubenites and the Gadites in the land of Gilead to the Israelites in the land of Canaan, and reported the matter to them.
33 La cosa pareció bien a los israelitas: los israelitas dieron gracias a Dios y no hablaron más de hacerles la guerra y devastar el territorio habitado por los rubenitas y los gaditas.	33 The report satisfied the Israelites, who blessed God and decided against declaring war on the Reubenites and Gadites or ravaging the land they occupied.
34 Los rubenitas y gaditas llamaron al altar..., porque decían: «Será testigo entre nosotros de que Yahveh es Dios».	34 The Reubenites and the Gadites gave the altar its name as a witness among them that the LORD is God.
