Romanos 13

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Sométanse todos a las autoridades constituidas, pues no hay autoridad que no provenga de Dios, y las que existen, por Dios han sido constituidas.	1 Everyone is to obey the governing authorities, because there is no authority except from God and sowhatever authorities exist have been appointed by God.
2 De modo que, quien se opone a la autoridad, se rebela contra el orden divino, y los rebeldes se atraerán sobre sí mismos la condenación.	2 So anyone who disobeys an authority is rebel ing against God's ordinance; and rebels must expect toreceive the condemnation they deserve.
3 En efecto, los magistrados no son de temer cuando se obra el bien, sino cuando se obra el mal. ¿Quieres no temer la autoridad? Obra el bien, y obtiendrás de ella elogios,	3 Magistrates bring fear not to those who do good, but to those who do evil. So if you want to live withno fear of authority, live honestly and you wil have its approval;
4 pues es para ti un servidor de Dios para el bien. Pero, si obras el mal, teme: pues no en vano lleva espada: pues es un servidor de Dios para hacer justicia y castigar al que obra el mal.	4 it is there to serve God for you and for your good. But if you do wrong, then you may wel be afraid;because it is not for nothing that the symbol of authority is the sword: it is there to serve God, too, as hisavenger, to bring retribution to wrongdoers.
5 Por tanto, es preciso someterse, no sólo por temor al castigo, sino también en conciencia.	5 You must be obedient, therefore, not only because of this retribution, but also for conscience's sake.
6 Por eso precisamente pagáis los impuestos, porque son funcionarios de Dios, ocupados asiduamente en ese oficio.	6 And this is why you should pay taxes, too, because the authorities are al serving God as his agents,even while they are busily occupied with that particular task.
7 Dad a cada cual lo que se debe: a quien impuestos, impuestos; a quien tributo, tributo; a quien respeto, respeto; a quien honor, honor.	7 Pay to each one what is due to each: taxes to the one to whom tax is due, tol s to the one to whomtol s are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honour to the one to whom honour is due.
8 Con nadie tengáis otra deuda que la del mutuo amor. Pues el que ama al prójimo, ha cumplido la ley.	8 The only thing you should owe to anyone is love for one another, for to love the other person is tofulfil the law.
9 En efecto, lo de: No adulterarás, no matarás, no robarás, no codiciarás y todos los demás preceptos, se resumen en esta fórmula: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.	9 Al these: You shal not commit adultery, You shal not kil , You shal not steal, You shal not covet,and all the other commandments that there are, are summed up in this single phrase: You must love yourneighbour as yourself.
10 La caridad no hace mal al prójimo. La caridad es, por tanto, la ley en su plenitud.	10 Love can cause no harm to your neighbour, and so love is the fulfilment of the Law.
11 Y esto, teniendo en cuenta el momento en que vivimos. Porque es ya hora de levantaros del sueño; que la salvación está más cerca de nosotros que cuando abrazamos la fe.	11 Besides, you know the time has come; the moment is here for you to stop sleeping and wake up,because by now our salvation is nearer than when we first began to believe.
12 La noche está avanzada. El día se avecina. Despojémonos, pues, de las obras de las tinieblas y revistámonos de las armas de la luz.	12 The night is nearly over, daylight is on the way; so let us throw off everything that belongs to thedarkness and equip ourselves for the light.
13 Como en pleno día, procedamos con decoro: nada de comilonas y borracheras; nada de lujurias y desenfrenos; nada de rivalidades y envidias.	13 Let us live decently, as in the light of day; with no orgies or drunkenness, no promiscuity orlicentiousness, and no wrangling or jealousy.
14 Revestíos más bien del Señor Jesucristo y no os preocupéis de la carne para satisfacer sus concupiscencias.	14 Let your armour be the Lord Jesus Christ, and stop worrying about how your disordered naturalinclinations may be fulfil ed.
