BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Habló Yahveh a Moisés y le dijo:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
2 «Manda a los israelitas que echen del campamento a todo leproso, al que padece flujo y a todo impuro por contacto de cadáver.	2 'Order the Israelites to expel from the camp al those suffering from a contagious skin-disease or froma discharge, or who have become unclean by touching a corpse.
3 Los has de echar, sean hombre o mujer; fuera del campamento los echarás, para que no contaminen sus campamentos, donde yo habito en medio de ellos.»	3 Whether man or woman, you will expel them; you wil expel them from the camp, so that they do notpollute their encampments, in the heart of which I dwel .'
4 Así lo hicieron los israelitas: los echaron fuera del campamento. Los israelitas lo hicieron tal como había dicho Yahveh a Moisés.	4 The Israelites did so: they expel ed them from the camp. The Israelites did as Yahweh had told Moses.
5 Yahveh habló a Moisés y le dijo:	5 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
6 «Habla a los israelitas: Si un hombre o una mujer comete cualquier pecado en perjuicio de otro, ofendiendo a Yahveh, el tal será reo de delito.	6 'Speak to the Israelites: "If a man or woman commits any of the sins by which people break faith withYahweh, that person incurs guilt.
7 Confesará el pecado cometido y restituirá la suma de que es deudor, más un quinto. Se la devolverá a aquel de quien es deudor.	7 "The person must confess the sin committed and restore in ful the amount owed, with one-fifth added.Payment is to be made to the person wronged.
8 Y si el hombre no tiene pariente a quien se pueda restituir, la suma que en tal caso se ha de restituir a Yahveh, será para el sacerdote; aparte del carnero expiatorio con que el sacerdote expiará por él.	8 "If, however, the latter has no relation to whom restitution can be made, the restitution due to Yahwehreverts to the priest, apart from the ram of expiation with which the priest makes expiation for the guilty party.
9 Y toda ofrenda reservada de lo que los hijos de Israel consagran y presentan al sacerdote, será para éste.	9 For of everything the Israelites consecrate and bring to the priest he has a right to the portion setaside.
10 Lo que cada uno consagra, es suyo; pero lo que se presenta al sacerdote, es para el sacerdote.»	10 Whatever anyone consecrates is his own; whatever is given to the priest belongs to the priest." '
11 Yahveh habló a Moisés y le dijo:	11 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said,
12 «Habla a los israelitas. Diles: Cualquier hombre cuya mujer se haya desviado y le haya engañado:	12 'Speak to the Israelites and say: "If anyone has a wife who goes astray and is unfaithful to him,
13 ha dormido un hombre con ella con relación carnal a ocultas del marido; ella se ha manchado en secreto, no hay ningún testigo, no ha sido sorprendida;	13 if some other man sleeps with the woman without the husband's knowledge, and she secretly makesherself unclean, without any witness against her, and without anyone catching her in the act;
14 si el marido es atacado de celos y recela de su mujer, que efectivamente se ha manchado; o bien le atacan los celos y se siente celoso de su mujer, aunque ella no se haya manchado;	14 if, then, a spirit of suspicion comes over the husband and makes him suspicious of the wife who hasdisgraced herself, or again if this spirit of suspicion comes over him and makes him suspicious of his wife evenwhen she is innocent,
15 ese hombre llevará a su mujer ante el sacerdote y presentará por ella la ofrenda correspondiente: una décima de medida de harina de cebada. No derramará aceite sobre la ofrenda, ni la pondrá incienso, pues es «oblación de celos», oblación conmemorativa para recordar una falta.	15 the man wil bring his wife before the priest, and on her behalf make an offering of one-tenth of anephah of barley meal. He will not pour oil over it or put incense on it, because this is a cereal offering for a caseof suspicion, a memorial offering to recal guilt to mind.
16 El sacerdote presentará a la mujer y la pondrá delante de Yahveh.	16 "The priest will then bring the woman forward and place her before Yahweh.
17 Echará luego agua viva en un vaso de barro y, tomando polvo del pavimento de la Morada, lo esparcirá sobre el agua.	17 The priest wil then take fresh water in an earthen jar, and on the water throw dust that he has takenfrom the floor of the Dwel ing.
18 Pondrá el sacerdote a la mujer delante de Yahveh, le descubrirá la cabeza y pondrá en sus manos la oblación conmemorativa, o sea, la oblación de los celos. El sacerdote tendrá en sus manos las aguas de maldición y funestas.	18 After he has placed the woman before Yahweh, he will unbind her hair and put the commemorativecereal offering (that is, the cereal offering for a case of suspicion) into her hands. In his own hands the priest wilhold the water of bitterness and cursing.
19 Entonces, el sacerdote conjurará a la mujer y le dirá: “Si no ha dormido un hombre contigo, si no te has desviado ni manchado desde que estás bajo la potestad de tu marido, sé inmune a estas aguas amargas y funestas.	19 "The priest will then put the woman on oath. He will say to her: If it is not true that a man has sleptwith you, that you have gone astray and made yourself unclean while under your husband's authority, may thiswater of bitterness and cursing do you no harm.
20 Pero si, estando bajo la potestad de tu marido, te has desviado y te has manchado, durmiendo con un hombre distinto de tu marido...”	20 But if it is true that you have gone astray while under your husband's authority, that you have madeyourself unclean and that a man other than your husband has slept with you . . .
21 El sacerdote entonces proferirá sobre la mujer este juramento, y dirá el sacerdote a la mujer: “... Que Yahveh te ponga como maldición y execración en medio de tu pueblo, que haga languidecer tus caderas e infle tu vientre.	21 Here the priest wil impose an imprecatory oath on the woman. He wil say to her: . . . May Yahwehmake you the object of your people's execration and curses, by making your sexual organs shrivel and your bel yswel !
22 Que entren estas aguas de maldición en tus entrañas, para que inflen tu vientre y hagan languidecer tus caderas.” Y la mujer responderá: “¡Amén, amén!”	22 May this water of cursing entering your bowels, make your belly swell and your sexual organs shrivel!To which the woman will reply: Amen! Amen!
23 Después el sacerdote escribirá en una hoja estas imprecaciones y las borrará con las aguas amargas.	23 "Having written these curses on a scrol and washed them off in the water of bitterness,
24 Hará beber a la mujer las aguas de maldición y funestas, y las aguas funestas entrarán en ella para hacérsele amargas.	24 the priest wil make the woman drink the water of bitterness and cursing; when the water of cursingenters into her, it wil become bitter.
25 El sacerdote tomará entonces de la mano de la mujer la oblación de los celos, mecerá la oblación delante de Yahveh y la presentará en el altar.	25 "The priest will then take the cereal offering for a case of suspicion from the woman's hands, and holdit up before Yahweh with a gesture of offering, and so carry it up to the altar.
26 El sacerdote tomará de la oblación un puñado, el memorial, y lo quemará sobre el altar, y le hará beber a la mujer las aguas.	26 He will take a handful of it as a memorial and burn it on the altar. "After this, he wil make the woman drink the water.
27 Cuando le haga beber de las aguas, si la mujer está manchada y de hecho ha engañado a su marido, cuando entren en ella las aguas funestas le serán amargas: se inflará su vientre, languidecerán sus caderas y será mujer de maldición en medio de su pueblo.	27 After he has made her drink it, if it is true that she has made herself unclean and been unfaithful toher husband, the water of cursing then entering into her wil indeed be bitter: her bel y wil swel and her sexualorgans shrivel, and she wil be an object of execration to her people.
28 Pero si la mujer no se ha manchado, sino que es pura, estará exenta de toda culpa y tendrá hijos.	28 But if she has not made herself unclean, but is clean, then she will go unscathed and wil bearchildren.
29 Este es el rito de los celos, para cuando una mujer, después de estar bajo la potestad de su marido, se haya desviado y manchado;	29 "Such is the ritual in cases of suspicion, when a woman has gone astray and made herself uncleanwhile under her husband's authority,
30 o para cuando un hombre, atacado de celos, recele de su mujer: entonces pondrá a su mujer en presencia de Yahveh y el sacerdote realizará con ella todo este rito.	30 or when a spirit of suspicion has come over a man and made him suspicious of his wife. When ahusband brings such a woman before Yahweh, the priest will apply this ritual to her in full.
31 El marido estará exento de culpa, y la mujer cargará con la suya.»	31 The husband wil be guiltless, but the woman wil bear the consequences of her guilt." '
