| 1 Los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad tenían muchos rebaños, muy grandes. Vieron que el país de Yazer y el país de Galaad eran tierra propia para el pastoreo, | 1 Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle; and they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, and behold, the place was a place for cattle. |
| 2 y los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén fueron y dijeron a Moisés, al sacerdote Eleazar y a los principales de la comunidad: | 2 So the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and said to Moses and to Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the congregation, |
| 3 «Atarot, Dibón, Yazer, Nimrá, Jesbón, Elalé, Sebam, Nebo, y Meón, | 3 "Ataroth, Dibon, Jazer, Nimrah, Heshbon, Elealeh, Sebam, Nebo, and Beon, |
| 4 el país que Yahveh conquistó delante de la comunidad de Israel es tierra de ganado, y tus siervos tienen ganado.» | 4 the land which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle; and your servants have cattle." |
| 5 Y añadieron: «Si hemos hallado gracia a tus ojos, que se nos dé esta tierra a tus siervos en propiedad; no nos hagas pasar el Jordán.» | 5 And they said, "If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession; do not take us across the Jordan." |
| 6 Respondió Moisés a los hijos de Gad y a los hijos de Rubén: «¿Es que vuestros hermanos van a ir al combate y vosotros os vais a quedar aquí? | 6 But Moses said to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, "Shall your brethren go to the war while you sit here? |
| 7 ¿Por qué os oponéis a que los israelitas pasen a la tierra que les ha dado Yahveh? | 7 Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD has given them? |
| 8 Así hicieron ya vuestros padres, cuando los mandé de Cadés Barnea a ver la tierra: | 8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. |
| 9 subieron al valle de Eskol, vieron la tierra e impidieron que los israelitas entrasen en la tierra que les había dado Yahveh. | 9 For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the people of Israel from going into the land which the LORD had given them. |
| 10 Por eso se encendió la ira de Yahveh aquel día y juró diciendo: | 10 And the LORD's anger was kindled on that day, and he swore, saying, |
| 11 “Nunca verán los hombres que salieron de Egipto, de veinte años para arriba, la tierra que prometí con juramento a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob..., porque no me han sido fieles, | 11 'Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, because they have not wholly followed me; |
| 12 excepto Caleb, hijo de Yefunné el quenizeo, y Josué, hijo de Nun, que fueron fieles a Yahveh.” | 12 none except Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed the LORD.' |
| 13 Se encendió la ira de Yahveh contra Israel y los hizo andar errantes por el desierto durante cuarenta años, hasta que se acabó toda aquella generación que había obrado mal a los ojos de Yahveh. | 13 And the LORD's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the LORD was consumed. |
| 14 ¡Y ahora vosotros os alzáis a imitación de vuestros padres, como retoño de hombres pecadores, para atizar más el fuego de la ira de Yahveh contra Israel! | 14 And behold, you have risen in your fathers' stead, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of the LORD against Israel! |
| 15 Si os apartáis de él, volverá a retenernos en el desierto, y acarrearéis el desastre a todo este pueblo.» | 15 For if you turn away from following him, he will again abandon them in the wilderness; and you will destroy all this people." |
| 16 Entonces se acercaron a Moisés y le dijeron: «Podemos construir aquí rediles para nuestras ovejas y ciudades para nuestros niños. | 16 Then they came near to him, and said, "We will build sheepfolds here for our flocks, and cities for our little ones, |
| 17 Pero nosotros tomaremos las armas a la cabeza de los israelitas, hasta que los introduzcamos en sus lugares, mientras que nuestros hijos de quedarán en las plazas fuertes, al abrigo de los habitantes del país. | 17 but we will take up arms, ready to go before the people of Israel, until we have brought them to their place; and our little ones shall live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land. |
| 18 No volveremos a nuestras casas hasta que los israelitas se posesionen cada uno de su herencia. | 18 We will not return to our homes until the people of Israel have inherited each his inheritance. |
| 19 Que nosotros no tendremos herencia con ellos al otro lado del Jordán, pues nuestra herencia nos ha tocado del lado oriental del Jordán.» | 19 For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond; because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan to the east." |
| 20 Moisés les dijo: «Si hacéis lo que habéis dicho, si os armáis para combatir delante de Yahveh, | 20 So Moses said to them, "If you will do this, if you will take up arms to go before the LORD for the war, |
| 21 y todos vuestros combatientes pasan el Jordán delante de Yahveh, hasta que arroje a sus enemigos ante vosotros, | 21 and every armed man of you will pass over the Jordan before the LORD, until he has driven out his enemies from before him |
| 22 y la tierra es ocupada delante de Yahveh, podéis volver después y quedaréis exentos de culpa ante Yahveh y ante Israel. Esta tierra os pertenecerá en propiedad delante de Yahveh. | 22 and the land is subdued before the LORD; then after that you shall return and be free of obligation to the LORD and to Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD. |
| 23 Pero si no lo hacéis así, habréis pecado contra Yahveh, y sabed que vuestro pecado os saldrá al encuentro. | 23 But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out. |
| 24 Construíos ciudades para vuestros niños, y rediles para vuestros rebaños; pero haced lo que habéis prometido.» | 24 Build cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do what you have promised." |
| 25 Dijeron los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén a Moisés: «Tus siervos harán como mi Señor manda. | 25 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben said to Moses, "Your servants will do as my lord commands. |
| 26 Nuestros hijos, nuestras mujeres, nuestros rebaños y todo nuestro ganado, se quedarán aquí en las ciudades de Galaad. | 26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall remain there in the cities of Gilead; |
| 27 Pero tus siervos, todos los que llevan armas, pasarán delante de Yahveh, para ir a la guerra, como dice mi Señor.» | 27 but your servants will pass over, every man who is armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord orders." |
| 28 Moisés dio orden al sacerdote Eleazar, a Josué, hijo de Nun, y a los jefes de las casas paternas de las tribus de los israelitas, | 28 So Moses gave command concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel. |
| 29 y les dijo Moisés: «Si los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén, todos los que llevan armas, pasan con vosotros el Jordán, para combatir delante de Yahveh, y la tierra queda dominada por vosotros, les daréis el país de Galaad en propiedad. | 29 And Moses said to them, "If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, every man who is armed to battle before the LORD, will pass with you over the Jordan and the land shall be subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession; |
| 30 Pero si los que llevan armas no pasan con vosotros, tendrán su herencia entre vosotros en el país de Canaán.» | 30 but if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan." |
| 31 Respondieron los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén: «Lo que ha hablado Yahveh a tus siervos, eso haremos. | 31 And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, "As the LORD has said to your servants, so we will do. |
| 32 Nosotros pasaremos armados delante de Yahveh al país de Canaán; pero danos la propiedad de nuestra herencia a este lado del Jordán.» | 32 We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan." |
| 33 Moisés dio a los hijos de Gad, a los hijos de Rubén y a la media tribu de Manasés, hijo de José, el reino de Sijón, rey de los amorreos, y el reino de Og, rey de Basán; el país con las ciudades comprendidas en sus fronteras y las ciudades colindantes. | 33 And Moses gave to them, to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories, the cities of the land throughout the country. |
| 34 Los hijos de Rubén construyeron las plazas fuertes de Dibón, Atarot y Aroer, | 34 And the sons of Gad built Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer, |
| 35 Atrot Sofán, Yazer, Yogbohá, | 35 Atroth-shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah, |
| 36 Bet Nimrá, Bet Harán, y rediles para los rebaños. | 36 Beth-nimrah and Beth-haran, fortified cities, and folds for sheep. |
| 37 Los hijos de Rubén construyeron Jesbón, Elalé, Quiryatáyim, | 37 And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim, |
| 38 Nebo, Baal Meón, cambiadas de nombre, y Sibmá. Y pusieron nombres a las ciudades que construyeron. | 38 Nebo, and Baal-meon (their names to be changed), and Sibmah; and they gave other names to the cities which they built. |
| 39 Los hijos de Makir, hijo de Manasés, fueron a Galaad, la conquistaron y expulsaron a los amorreos que habitaban allí. | 39 And the sons of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead and took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were in it. |
| 40 Moisés dio Galaad a Makir, hijo de Manasés, que se estableció allí. | 40 And Moses gave Gilead to Machir the son of Manasseh, and he settled in it. |
| 41 Yaír, hijo de Manasés, fue y se apoderó de los aduares de ellos y los llamó Aduares de Yaír. | 41 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took their villages, and called them Havvoth-jair. |
| 42 Nóbaj fue y se apoderó de Quenat y de sus filiales, y le puso su propio nombre Nóbaj. | 42 And Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name. |
